Gen 3 is good as is every Pokemon but gen 1/2 were better. Gen 3 was just really poorly designed with the huge amount of water with the same few Pokemon in it. The battle frontier was amazing but gen 2 still had the better post game with the journey back to Kanto.

Gen 1 and 2 are notoriously poorly designed, though. Gen 3 improved on almost everything. Too Much Water isn't an issue when there's a fuckload of junk to find in the ocean, and Gen 2's Kanto is a fucking husk of the original.

I loved it when I was a kid as well and my imagination could fill in the blanks but playing it now is boring as shit.

How? Gen 1 is a buggy mess, gen 2 has level curve issues (no, git gud is not an issue here) and distribution problems as well as Kanto being empty as fuck. Gen 3 only has distribution issues in the water (which is encountered later in the game). In addition gen 3 has a lot of optional content despite having one single map.

The only other issue I can think of with Gen 3 is the transfer thing and the night/day mechanic not being present but that's really nitpicky since it doesn't really affect gameplay too much.

The Battle Frontier is an overglorified slot machine.

I can see why people liked it, since it actually made an effort to be more serious about battling on top of just having the main storyline.
But when you get OHKO'd by fucking Walreins whose sheer colds and fissures don't miss, yeah what fun is that?

This is specially true for the Battle Factory, it doesn't matter how good you actually are, if you draw bad teams you won't make it past 25. I'm pretty sure it's after 21 streak that the game starts actively trying to purposely counter your team.
Good fuckin luck getting the gold symbol for that place. In all the other facilities at least you can choose your team.
