I have a friend who played through that. I played a bit, as well. It is slow, not just the fights but everything, but the whole "what if mechs actually existed and were used in warfare where tanks couldn't work?" premise was pretty neat. Also, an interesting and original way of handling mech combat.

It was definitely slow, but playing it I couldn't think of any substantial way the developers could have sped things up without ruining the core of the game. Instead of speeding it up I think the best option would have been to give the player more to manage during battles than just ground troops.

Still loved it. Even if it took forever, the battles were intense.

Wow, I have not met another person who played this. I remember it being pretty fun. I beat it all the way through, which was impressive back then. Fun game. Probably wouldn't hold up if I tried playing it again.

Once you get past the first few stages, you will find yourself vastly outleveled by everything on the map, requiring you to go back and grind through the first three stages repeatedly. That happens a lot in the game from what I understand, but after the second time, I just gave up on the whole thing.
