I only played through it once and it was as a mage. Great effing game, really spectaculr, but the origins weren't a very interesting or engaging part of the experience. It's once you get to Ostagar that the game gets really good!

Elves were a mistake. Only the noble origins(human and dwarf) matter.

Dwarf noble is absolutely the best origin by a wide margin.

Unfortunately I found out the beginning of the game was the only good part. The rest of the game is a boring slog with awful janky combat.
