I'd actually think about getting it once it leaves Early Access but from what I've seen they throw a ridiculous amount of weapons and loot around, like there's melee weapons but there's zero point in using any of them because by the time you've searched two houses you've already gotten a pistol, a rifle, a shotgun, clothes, a backpack, some armor and a few gun mods.

It just came out, and it got big because it's actually good

They took the idea of a battle royale, which tons of people love, and actually put thought into making it balanced and hectic. The mechanics all work pretty well. PUBG is definitely still rough around the edges, but committing is something that previous games like H1Z1 and DayZ were unable to do. They just kept occasionally tweaking small things. As long as support keeps coming in the form of patches and new maps, PUBG is going to remain hugely popular because it's well-conceived and enjoyable. The recipe for success wasn't a complicated one, someone just had to actually do it.

H1Z1 was basically the casual title, where I think DayZ was the "sim" one. GUYNOTHEARDOF wanted to make one in between the two and that's what this is. I didn't play H1Z1 but I can say it's much faster than DayZ.

Main complaint I have is that it gets stale kindof quickly if you don't have friends to play with, and that stems from a lack of variety in matches and the insistence that you camp to stay alive. Shooters aren't my favorite genre though so some people might be fine with it as is. Also the environment is piss.

For me it was worth the $30 price tag but only just. If the gameplay doesn't look like your cup of tea probably wait for some content to be added or a sale.

And me? I've gotten my money's worth for sure. I have over 30 hours in the game so far about half half solo or with friends. The game is what $30? That's enough for me.

Pretty much it cuts out almost everything interesting about ARMA, casualizes and dumbs down a lot of the combat and ballistics, and requires no set up so really it's not a surprise that it's selling like crazy.

I'd even say more casual than overwatch, since that requires more teamwork, coordination and thought than Battlegrounds.
