Blood spills from Devouring in God Eater Resurrection

They did it because Bamco wanted to sell Resurrection as a pack-in along with Rage Burst, but couldn't because of the difference in ratings. So they had to tone down the blood in Resurrection.

This sucks, but three good things came out of it.

(1) The rating board's overfocus on the gore allowed Namco Bandai to sneak back in some earlier content (smoking, breast jiggling of female characters, etc.) that had been "localized" out of the PSP version.

(2) Buyers got two games for the price of one.

(3) The blood splattering actually kind of got in your way by messing with the interface, especially during intense multi-monster fights, but this last one is admittedly subjective.

What's more irritating is the lack of dual audio, but that's completely outside the scope of this conversation.

As a professional translator (not for video games), I just don't get it. I don't get offended over everything, so I don't have many issues when translating anything. Though I've always defended even things I didn't like or particularly care for, so I just don't get people like that. About the only time I understand it is if whatever you're censoring is breaking the laws of the country it's being released in.

A lot of them don't know English, so they aren't aware how much their games are being shit up as far as dialogue goes, and when it comes to visual censorship they just take the localizers word when they say "This NEEDS to be changed, or it can't be released here.", even though a cursory glance at other localizations would out them as liars. Some understand the importance of a flexible localization to attempt to re-create the same "feel" that players of the original version had, and just assume that localizers are doing what needs to be done.

TL;DR: It's mostly ignorance from the Japanese companies that allow terrible localization to continue.
