None of the Resident Evil games were scary and RE7 sucked dick, at least the other "horror" REs had good atmopsphere and music. If you think RE4 was the problem, you hadn't been paying attention to the actionization of each sequel, you fucking start RE3 with an LMG ffs.

RE4 was better than earlier games because it was actually fun to play, no more bullshit tank controls, no more wrestling with the camera, no more guessing where you're actually aiming.

Let it go OP. Resident Evil 4 was great, and so is RE7, and no one else cares which genre they're in, only quality matters.

Ex-fan supporter here. It's hilarious watching the game crash and burn but seriously we CANNOT let it get the "Game of the 6th Gen" award

Granted, RE4 was also one of the first games that used the 3rd person shooting mechanics when it came out.

By the time Revelations 2 came out, there had now been 5 main titles in the series that used that style and literally hundreds of games on the market since RE4 that started to use 3rd person shooting as a standard. Didn't help that RE6 was a goddamn mess and people were tired of it at that point.

I am not saying RE7 is perfect (There is a lot in the game combat-wise I am not a fan of), but I think it was a step in the right direction for the series.

RE4 had some horror elements too, it just let you have more action oriented solutions. Getting trapped in the house in the first village and hearing that chainsaw is pretty scary the first time around.

RE7 has been the most fun I had playing a game this year.
I can't wait for RE 2 Remake and RE8 now.
For the longest time I thought maybe Capcom didn't know how to make a horror game anymore but after 7 I am more then pleased I can't wait for what's going to happen next it feels fucking good to be an RE fan again.

RE has always been really campy and unintentionally funny to me. But RE7 really dropped the ball after the fight with Jack. The callback to the first game with the characters and environments was nice though.
