Wotlk was sick though. Talent trees were expanded one last time before being gutted, the original story from WC3 was resolved, zones looked great and the soundtrack was really good, pvp wasn't a complete mess like tbc (stunherald/sl locks, although went to shit at the end when warriors AGAIN became the meta with that stupid ap stat) and the world still felt alive. Contrary to most /v/ salt mongerers, I just started playing wow this past december and I think it is a lot of fun. First leveled to 110, enjoyed everything the first time through. I was able to use the boost with legion to get to 100 from 60, which put my professions up to date. I used them to get something like 600k gold and last me for a few months of wow subs. Started grinding gear and late game stuff and raided, really enjoy all of the legion raids. New one coming out in 1.5 months or so and they really started to fix the issues of AP grind in 7.2 so as a relatively casual player its been a lot of fun and not too demanding of my time. Depending on your class specific legendaries aren't required. I think it's def worth it since its around $30 atm. There will be at least one more raid after the one coming up in June, which would leave you with plenty of content no matter what you plan on doing.

Balance isn't bad, the top charts are with classes that are geared to fuck with perfect combo of legendaries and titanforged rolls in gear they need, which takes awhile to get. Everyone else has their place in the meta. Have fun.

There are much better ways to spend your time. And I'm not just talking about boring normie activities. All of Blizzards games are engineered to be addictive and keep you playing with Skinner Box style rewards, and WoW is/was their template for it.


You may feel a sense of satisfaction from playing it or HoTS, or Overwatch, or even Hearthstone, but they're really just appealing to the most primal parts of your brain. If you're going to play a game, play something that tries to stimulate you more organically with its story or play style. I'm not sure what types of stuff you like besides MMO's, but if you give me some examples of games or genres you like, I could give some recommendations.

I personally recommend Furi because it's got a cool combat system that's a mix of bullet-hell and twin-stick shooting combined with Platinum Games-style dodge/counter beatemups.

mythic+ keeps things interesting a little longer

AK levels, More AP in weekly caches, AP per mythic+ length (made it so it wasn't maw spam and people actually play all the dungeons now), assaults with high AP quests. I said they started to fix the issues of the grind, not remove the grind. The whole game is a grind if you didn't know. If you didn't want to do that then don't play an MMO.
There is plenty of other stuff to do in the game besides raiding and trying to grind to the top. 10/10M NH raiders who are trying to be the best of their spec aren't the average player. You can't base the entire game balance around the top 1-2%.
There is plenty of PVP to be played, leveling an alt in a different zone or playing a spec you haven't played before. Professions etc... not pet battles bc fuck that but its not complete shit.
So many here overexaggerate and make it seem far worse than it is.
Of course the top few will get bored, you decided to get to the top as fast as humanly possible, dedicating a crazy amount of time to it. Games aren't designed around the players who wake up, play all day, go to sleep with 0 obligations, especially not a game like WoW with such a large older community.

Uhhh...if you want to. Having some random shitty player get lucky titanforged drop can feel frustrating. AP grind can feel overwhelming (though remember that player skill is what matters the most in the end for high end content, though you WILL need to AP grind a fuckton to reach the higher Mythic+ levels if you plan to do the more hardcore side of dungeons.) Flying is added to the new continent, but it has a bit of an annoying rep grind attached to it (nothing as tedious as Vanilla/TBC though I'll say that much.) Warcraft lore post-WC3 as usual crappy in many places, some inconsistencies though nowhere near as bad as any of the previous iterations of WoW. And last but not least people on Blizzard forums who have reactions to Blizzard games where they blow things out of proportion every other day and try to witch hunt Blizzard it selt.

MMO's are all about grinding at their core, but I'm just more disillusioned with WoW than any of the others. There really is something to be said for how well Blizzard understands game making. All that streamlining is just too "perfect" for me I guess.

You think? I quit during WotLK so maybe things have changed since I've been gone. I just remember that when I left I was thinking that even though a couple of Ice Crown's bosses were interesting or even fun, it wasn't enough to keep me playing. It was all just continuously running these instances to get marginally better gear and run the instances again.

Maybe it's because I was a was a DPSfag too. I hear there's more to think about when you have you have manage aggro as a tank or prioritize who to help as a healer. As it was, most of my shit was just macros.
