So I had a few classes at sixty and have been getting my crafters up there to prep for the expansion but now I want to start doing extreme duties and the such.

What trials/raids (extreme/savage) would you consider must knows to not be a shitter and can you recommend guides for them that don't make the actual thing more complicated than it really is.

DRG, MNK, or BRD /v/?

I've got all three at 50 ready to start Heavensward content but I don't know what to main for Stormblood. DRG was what I first picked back in '15 when I started, MNK is shit at endgame from what I hear but it has the GCD that isn't slower than snail shit, and I usually play Hunters or Rangers which is the only reason BRD is still a contender though I hate the foppish theme of the class. MCH isn't an option because of the steampunk faggotry surrounding the class and PLD is by far the most boring tank (Doesn't help that japs can't get the class to actually fit a true Paladin theme).

Maybe in the WoW-like games its like that, but for example, in RO you could make a low level character OP if you had the right cards, or a high leveled character good enough for new content with an old set of items, you could even go to pvp/guild vs guild with basic equipment as long as it was refined + cards, yes, the lastest gear was better but it didn't make all the other gear irrelevant, even some item combinations had a niche use, that was neat.

The fight isn't fine for two general reasons.
First, and this is a criticism of multiple different bosses in this game actually, is that the fight lacks a core mechanic, i.e. something that the enemy does that you learn but then have to deal with in progressively harder environment. That's how every enjoyable raid boss ever is designed. A8S is basically several different fights baked into one for one purpose alone: to throw you a curveball every minute so you don't progress too fast. They could make the raid twice the size out of the material they had. I'm not saying bosses that change up their attack pattern shouldn't exist, in fact every once in a while it'd be a good challenge, but over two dozens of completely mechanically different phases? What actual fuck?

Second, and that is mostly thematic, is that you don't really feel like you're fighting the boss in A8S, because when you wipe, it's because some offscreen entity decides that you did it wrong and just takes you out of the fight. It's not because the boss got strong and hit you hard and you couldn't deal, and not because you didn't manage the mechanic so you fucked yourself over, it's literally just devs going HAHAHA FUCK YOU TRY AGAIN. You're literally fighting devs' puzzle more than you're fighting Brute Justice himself.

The retarded mechanic where if anybody dies at all the boss gets a permanent unlivable damage up stack is just an icing on the cake. Why do that? Are you so upset that you gave us uncapped battle res possibilities? It's not like there's many options to recuperate to begin with, it just feels like pointless padding - requiring utter perfection for 12-14 minutes.

There is almost no mechanic that can be just properly explained to the player instantly. You're basically asking for a DBM mod to make things 'fair.' It's not supposed to be fair at all. It's not about that, but drawing a distinction between mechanics that test you viscerally (spatial awareness, improvisation, split second decision making) vs mechanics that are just logic puzzles that you solve outside the game.

It's not about having DBM to make it easier as well, in fact if all mechanics were like the balls in a7s raids would actually get harder - because mechanics like that can't be cheesed with DBM or any kind of prior planning, you either have the mental faculties to handle them or you don't.

So they let you better stratify your players by skill because anyone can memorize dance steps, but things like spatial awareness are qualitative mental skills that not everyone can train equally. Someone who just isn't able to multitask and look around for balls while handling his rotation will never clear that fight - and that's great, that's real difficulty.

Good thing the vast majority of A8s do test your ability to adjust quickly. Randomized (ish) brawler cannons/drills , orb placement, holding dps before 50%, being wary of mechanic combos, dealing with the RNG of megabeam while doing judgement orbs. Gavel is the only pure "logic" puzzle but again, I don't believe it was intended to be anything more than a breather.

A fair chunk of people don't like RNG mechanics you know. One run, you can have maybe 2-3 balls run over the party. In other runs, you get blacked. In any case, RNG already existed in some level in a8s, so you should be glad they took it to heart. Then we regressed to blunders like a11s (skips every 2%) and a12s (Gavel but with 0 interactivity and easier a7s cages).

Midas trained great players though. Creator is the tier where if you know the dance, you basically cleared the fight because the required dps needed for the fights is on par with Gordias, a billion ilvls ago.

Anyway you said as much yourself, gavel is easy enough once learned as to be a meaningless mechanic. I'd like to see less pointless mechanics and more real difficulty.

How people deal when they get 'blacked' by bad RNG with the balls is exactly what I'm looking for in good players. That's real skill there and not just rote memorization.

The mechanic is annoying, but it wasn't hard. The only bullshit point about them is that they didn't bounce like normal balls and had a sharp or obtuse angle when they hit the wall.

Again, A8s has all the things that you like to rub your dick over. There is rarely anything else in the game that is pure memorization. You're acting like scrublord mcgee can clear any fight at 90th percentile because they 'know' a fight and you and I both know that's not true. Difficulty isn't just knowing mechanics, but knowing how your role plays around it. If it were that easy to learn every role in every raid fight, then people wouldn't bitch so much about Midas/Gordias in general.
