It was a good idea for Chronicle to have an RPG mode.

But what wasn't a good idea was setting the game in yet another new world so that the old cast that aren't Arle, Amitie, and Ringo have about fuck all to do. And the new world has like only one new character who ends up playing second fiddle to Arle and friends. Oh wait, there are actually two new characters; but the other one is literally just an excuse to have a final boss, pretty much the Puyo Puyo version of Zeromus or Necron as in they come out of nowhere with no foreshadowing just so the game can have a final boss battle. Basically, the two new characters suck.

I think we've already had enough new worlds. How about we go back to one of the old ones? Like the Fever one, there's still some mystery and unresolved shit there. Why not have an RPG mode in that world? There's certainly enough material there to sustain one.

tl;dr: Puyo Puyo Chronicle should've been Puyo Puyo Fever 3.

Feververse is my favorite. I want to see more of them in focus but with Ringo as the new protagonist, it doesn't seem like that'll ever properly happen. Apparently it was declining interest in the series while the Feververse was the prevalent one. The biggest complaint fans had were that they didn't care for it as much as the Madou cast, but in typical Sonic team fashion they addressed this in the worst possible way and thought to just outright replace the Fever cast with a new original one to do the same exact shit with them that made people not like the Fever cast as much, which was taking focus away from the Madou characters they liked. Though they still addressed this by also adding Draco and Skeleton T along with most of the other Madou characters they had already brought back for 15th Anniversary. Even 7's advertising was more concerned with making Ringo look appealing and pleasing VAfags with Asami Imai than anything regarding Puyo Puyo gameplay or any previous Puyo Puyo characters to begin with, indicating it likely was just a desperate attempt at getting new fans who weren't interested in the series to begin with.

I feel like 15th had the right idea, mixing the two casts together and letting them interact together. At least being a step in the right direction. Led to some interesting crossover interactions, like Raffina with Rulue, or Lidelle with Satan.

Nowadays it looks like Ringo is serving as the mediator between the two casts, as every game seems to involve their worlds crossing over now, so I guess it's working itself out. That reminds me, the Suzuran cast is just four people, one of which has dimension-fuckery powers. Maybe this was the intentional direction of the series after Puyo 7 all along.

It's just a puzzle game with cute characters in it. Japan's all over it and of course there will be western fans all over a game that ends up localized. You know the last time Puyo got anything localized overseas?

Puyo Pop for the GBA and Puyo Pop Fever. Not even the sequel to the first Fever got released overseas. Besides that, the only people who even knew what Puyo Puyo was didn't even knew what Puyo Puyo was since those got makeover changes. Much like how Panel de Pon got a Yoshi makeover, the Puyo series got a Kirby/AOSTH makeover.

Arle isn't original from Puyo Puyo Fever either anon, many of the characters are from Madou Monogatari, and Puyo Puyo is actually a spinoff from it. Compile was originally the devs, but they died out and a few of them later formed Compile Heart, which makes tiddy games now.

Madou Monogatari was a dungeon crawler and often had a somewhat less cheerful story, for example, pic is from a game where Arle is kidnapped by Schezo Wegey (the little white haired fuckboy in PPT) and has to escape. Eventually she fights him and beheads him after slitting his throat, and then battles his severed head to escape to the exit where this creature, made of the parts/powers of his previous victims, guards the exit.

The closest this game has to Fever is Big Bang which is like Endless Fever, but when each round of Fever ends, all accumulated garbage goes against each other and hits the players' health bar. As for the GTR thing, I'm not sure what you mean. I'm still working on doing GTR myself, but when I start GTR, I usually aim for something along the lines of the setup in the left field of pic related. Take note of the way the blues are arranged on the left. Then I build up sandwiches or stairs off of the puyos along the floor there, resulting in something like the right side of pic related. If that doesn't help, then I'd need you to explain again what you want to see.
