In the backstory of Ring Runner, aliens greeted Earth by blowing it up with an Anchor Cannon.
The game is set in a universe which rotates with a period of 52 hours or something, and an Anchor Cannon makes a projectile cease to move at all, thus because the target is moving with the rest of the universe it smacks into the projectile at ludicrous speeds.

I wish I knew how to assembly edit well enough to get that weapon to be player-usable, one boss uses a small Anchor Cannon which is incredibly weak compared to the anti-planet scale version, but it will still easily destroy all but the most ridiculously tough ships.
