DoA5 was still filled with game breaking bugs for years and probably still is. It's not fun and it was broken.

I think the thing with MK is that the series had gone so far away from a serious fighting game. When 9 was revealed as a fairly straight forward fighter, people thought maybe they can take this one seriously.
That combined with the massive amount of hype ended up putting the game into the hands of a lot of serious players.

Not possible. They tried with DOA5 and the base that they had backlashed. They burned their own fans and failed to garner the attention of fighting fags. So they went back to their base with DOAX3 and HUEG amounts of waifu dress up DLC.

If I was in charge of it I wouldn't even bother because I could not give less of a fuck about it being respected as a serious fighting game.

If anything I would ramp up the fanservice even more and go fully T&A mode.

No. It will always be seen as a fanservice game. Worse still, if they tone down the fanservice too much the fans will complain and they will not attract new players.

To my knowledge they haven't had nudity in a DOA game since DOA4, mods notwithstanding. I think that removing nudity from the cutscenes, even though it was non-explicit, was Team Ninja's way of trying to regain some respectability, but of course then they've made multiple DOAX games since then so I'm not sure who they think they're kidding.

An anon posted in a previous thread about how they buggered up the traditional DOA mechanics in DOA5 to accomodate the VF guest fighters, in the process ruining the game balance by making the slower fighters unusable.

It just seems like the different directions they've tried to go with it haven't worked, so they've fallen back on endless costume DLC jewery. They almost seem rudderless without Itagaki running the show.

You can kind of counteract holds/counters by mixing it up between strikes and throws, because if you start throwing when they expect you to strike, your opponent wont feel safe doing so many holds. Also by going more for individual, unpredictable and oddly timed pokes instead of predictable combos. They did make holds harder to do compared to how they were in DOA3, but IMO you should not just be able to do them so easily between every strike of a combo because it's way too easy when you are a pro.

I think it is actually pretty well balanced and fun for casual players who *can't* successfully perform a hold against every random attack

That's literally wrong though. There were more males than females in the games up until 5, and even then the females only outnumbered the males once they you take all the DLC characters into account.

It's really not a bad fighter though. If you actually put some time into it it has decent mechanics and the learning curve isn't terribly high either. Most people who write it off as just "hurr tits" only fap to the porn in the first place or played it for an hour or so and got mad because they think holds are OP or something. There's also a pretty good variety of characters in terms of fighting styles and gameplay, and the females that even outnumber the males by that large of a margin.

It's not my favorite 3D fighter, but it's still pretty fun if you actually find people to play it with. It's easier to pick up than VF and a bit flashier too, but I'd put it below that and Tekken in terms of overall gameplay.

No, for two reasons:

1) It's image is ingrained in society's head as the titty fighter to a point that's difficult to overcome "Xtreme Beach Volleyball" is shorthand for scantily clad vidya ladies

2) The combat system is too unlike the established games; normal FGC types will never accept it because the ebb and flow of battle is totally different.

Just make the best fighting game you can. Waifus and sexy girls aren't a new concept to fighting games. But of course your game is gonna get laughed at when it has pages and pages of DLC. The sexy outfits and boingy bits don't need to go away. If it were up to me I'd take a strategy similar to Tekken 7. Bring the game around to big tournaments. Get players that play fighting games competitively involved. The best marketing a fighting game can get is endorsement from top players. Like I said, don't back down on the sex appeal. What DOES need to change is to make the characters of DOA INTERESTING. Currently they all look drab and essentially interchangeable. Body type, skin color, tattoos- you need to add more variety to make each character stand out. If anything, DoA needs to become MORE anime, not less.

I got into the series with DOA2 before the volleyball series started. I liked it cause hot chicks with big tits but also enjoyed the fighting. DOA3 toned down the sex but was still a fun fighter. and then volleyball came out you could clearly see the transition it had to 4. still though 4 is tame as fuck compared to 5 (or last round/whatever you want to call it).

back to the topic I think you had to start playing DOA with 4 at the latest to possibly take consider it a serious fighting game. I do and actually enjoy the fightan in DOA and just consider the TnA to be a bonus. full disclosure I used to play and fap to the first two volleyball games as a horny teenager but I don't really have an interest to play the third.

yeah yeah I know they pale in comparison but RE fixed the majority of my issues with 3. I know a lot of people jumped shit and dropped it after 3 but I would highly recommend RE. I would also recommend both Sigmas to anyone who loved NG/B and 2 but do not skip the originals. Those are without a doubt the definitive NG experiences.

I don't think they've been working on it secretly. After 3 BOMBED they salvaged themselves a little bit with RE but bombed again with Yaiba. Seems like they just wanted to take a break from NG. I think with the success of Nioh however they will return to it. All they need to do is copy the formula of the first two. They might not have Itagaki but they certainly have a good reference for what works.

what is the appeal of xtreme 3? I mean whats the point in 2017 when there are nude mods and tons of DoA hentai whatever. If you're happy with what you've got with a modded LR, then don't bother. It's an absolute grindfest to get the items you need to be able to do the lewdest stuff in X3. X3 has better lighting and water/sweat effects than LR, but you can get nudes and other things to balance it out. A lot of the mods are based on X3 anyway, from the Vita version hacks, so you can get the same scenes, including pole dancing.

This. I've bought updated versions of games I already owned in the past (Ninja Gaiden/NG Black), but this was just ridiculous and made me drop the game after Ultimate. I'm only a mediocre fighting-game player as it is, though I own every mainline DOA game, but shelling out 3 times for essentially the same game, with DLC for each version, is way too bs even for me.
