Okay, I've put about 30 hours into P3 FES but had to put it down because it was just so fucking boring. I think I got a little past the tank boss that can split itself iirc.

When does this game get good? And where's all this dating sim shit people talk about? So far I've only been able to mess around with the track team and art club, and completed the one with the dude who wanted to bang his teacher. Is there something about the social sim aspect I'm missing or does it get better later on?

It doesn't. The gameplay is shallow. People just like it for the cutscenes , social links, characters, and dialogue. The average gameplay time for Persona 3 is over 120 hours because you need to grind a lot and fuse persona to obtain more powerful persona.
