I just finished Gael's fight. It wasn't as difficult as Midir but overall it was a better fight. Better music, better setting, ettc. Felt like the world was actual ending when phase 3 set in. Also was blown away when I learned the entire wasteland is the arena, not just the area with the thrones.

Sam is a fun boss. Just for me personally Monsoon made a bigger impact. Maybe it's because Sam is near the end of the game and you're a much better player but he comes off as way too easy. Again, Raiden has upgrades out the ass at that point and the difficulty isn't ramped up. Or maybe it's because the Monsoon fight felt much more important from a story perspective. Sam taunts Raiden about all the people he's killed and he loses his shit. Monsoon shows up and soon after he goes full Jack the Ripper. Compare that to fighting Sam in a desert with almost no build up.

Sam is a neat boss because he rewards you for learning the game and acts as a last chance "Do you know how to play?" before the final boss.

You can cheese through him with a pile of health restores, bad combos and poor defensive moves.

Or you can show him a good time, and while his difficulty doesn't quite rise to the occasion, he rewards you with a satisfying fight if you've gotten good.

No, best boss was Blade Wolf as Sam on Revengeance difficulty trying to go for the No Damage score, whilst he's under the effect of taunt.

Trying to get past Demon Prince on my Pyromancer.

The Demon in Pain and Demon from Below take normal damage from my Black Pyromancies / Dark weapons but Demon Prince takes fucking half damage.

Guess I just have to nut up and get better instead of being greedy to try and end the fight faster. Fourth attempt here we go.

I just thought we basically were in a secret place where the pigmy lords had their thrones, which was being hidden by Filianore's illusion, akin to Gwindolyn's illusion in Anor London in DS1.

It make sno sense for people to think he had already eaten every other human. His goal was to provide the cute little girl with the blood of the dark souls, so she could paint another home for him. The girl, being a human, would also have to be eaten by him if we follow the line of thought that he needed to eat all humans to have the full dark soul. That means that if we assume that is the case then he would know a priori that it was a paradox for him. How could he go back to the girl if it was the end of the world?

Gael ate the pigmy lords, who apparently were being kept in the end of the world by fillianore's magic egg thingy. The dark soul was divided between them, basically it got formed inside him.

He knew that he would never make it back and that he would go mad, thus he left messages and clues for you in the dreg heap, because his plan was for you to defeat him and bring the dark soul to the painter lady via bonfire warping (which apparently ignores time?)

What is the justification for people assuming that the place we fight Gael is the end of the world? It could just be a a specific place that had decayed.


The thing about ignoring time to me seems way too far-fetched. Even though the "time is convulted" thing may be true, there are some things that have a coherent timeline, like the fact that you, the Ashen One, are in a specific cycle that you get to end/prolong at the Kiln. You don't timetravel between different cycles, except in DS1 when Manus comes to being you to the past. So, it makes no sense for me to assume that we are in cycle X, then we go to cycle Y to fight Gael, only to come back to cycle X again and decide what happens with cycle X after having dealt with Gael in cycle Y, even if he was in cycle X with you before.

If the pygmys come from the age of the original Lords then it could just be that their "kingdom" was so old that it obviously wasn't able to keep any shape possible through the passing of cycles, while the pygmys themselves were immortal and actually survived what their physical kingdom could not.

Dark Souls is innately difficult to decipher because it's a collection of scattered item descriptions with vague links, what you actually see in the game, and a tiny amount of dialogue. You can poke holes in fucking anything, but the fact that you, Gael, and the last unfortunate pygmy king are the last survivors in the world is self evident.

The pygmy you encounter at the start of the ringed city basically lays out the entire lore for you.

A few tidbits, I imagine you might be talking about Hexen Isle, so I think you might have missed mostly the conclusion to most side quests (which in turn are basically the conclusion to each party member's storyline), and the ending battle is quite satisfying in its own way.
Specially the cutscene with Velvet beating the shit out of the last boss.

I know the meme's to shit on WoD, but this guy was a fun as shit boss fight. Only one phase for the dude himself, but other than him there's a ton of reinforcements coming through all the time all with their own different moves, there are a few cannons trying to kill you as well, and most fun there's a damn train trying to run you over that brings the reinforcements and cannons. I want more "the stages are also trying to kill you at the same time as the bosses are" type stuff like a bunch of fights in this raid were in gaming period, not just WoW.
