I wouldn't say it's dead; the playerbase is down considerably but the quality of work on SL has never been better. Getting started is a confusing mess still, but you can find people willing to help. You'll probably only have consistent interaction if you're a furfag or into roleplaying, though.

Those are all rips senpai. Sculpting brought the same potential that mesh did but it was harder to directly rip stuff. Back when sculpting was big there was a lot of money to be made as an amateur.
Now? Nothing.
It's also no longer the same frontier it used to be. The type of people who have stayed playing are the worst unless like you said you're a furfag.
as much as i hate them they're probably the nicest and most active community in current times.
Shoopdawhoop life was prime sl and its a shame a lot of people never experienced what sl could have been.

its a game where you can really do or create anything. Complex built-in language to script objects to work in certain ways with a pretty large decent amount of control of the 'engine' it runs in.

What it really boils down to is a virtual chat room though, with any more specific utilization of it relying on communities supporting them.

People have remade virtually every kind of game inside second life as well as their own unique ones, anywhere from literally board games to rpgs, shooting and racing.

I wanted to make a game in it once but there are some limitations like lack of control inputs (4 directions, right mouse, left mouse, basically not much), so I abandoned that specific idea, as well as limitations on the camera engine for allowing a script to accurately take as much control as the scripter would want to add a sense of flair to a project.

9/10 people you meet on the game will not understand the LSL scripting language though, and otherwise be considered pubbies that do anything from flat roleplaying to simulated sex more along the degenerate side of futanari, furry, bdsm - shit like that.

It's an "everything" game and, in the wrong hands, has been primarily used for really retarded shit.

Your SL experience is what you make it. A large portion of SL is a barren wasteland, and it puts off a lot of new people. Hell, you have to dig so hard to find the really interesting stuff that there are people who have been in SL for over a decade who aren't even aware these things exist. They have a fully scripted playable American football league. Its basically the same group of people that recreate the same league under different names and management because internal drama causes it to implode after one or two seasons. You have any idea how interesting it is to watch that drama unfold in the group chat? It's a lot more entertaining seeing autists that legitimately hate each other finally explode at each other than watching some troll try to get a rise out of strangers. There's some other stuff too like a scripted racing game where the owners award the winners with money. There's a wrestling league that puts on shows every week. I don't know if they're still around but I remember there used to be military enthusiast that would go on mock wars with each other. Some venues have karaoke nights and poetry readings. I actually wrote an increibly gay poem about feminine penises and recited it at one of the poetry readings. Even thought everyone else's poem was serious and I did mine mostly as a joke, everyone was a good sport and laughed through it and clapped in the end. A lot of the best stuff you can do is incredibly autistic, but if you're willing to give in to the inner autism in you, there's a lot of fun to be had.
