I played Dawn of Sorrow as my first Castlevania and had a fucking blast. Couldn't put down the game, got true ending and 100 percent rooms on my first run.

Are the other games as fun as Dawn?

It's the best metroidvania but only on level 1 hard mode. Kinda boring otherwise, but so are the other games I guess.

The Lecarde Chronicles are probably some of the best out there right now. The second one even has the best Alucard, Robert Belgrade, in it.

Yeah, they are. Alwa's Awakening is probably the best of the lot. Kinda spells things out too much for you in dialogs, but other than that, it's a great little NES- style metroidvania.
Pharaoh Rebirth is level-based, but still a metroidvania. Amazing graphics, too.
Chronicles of Teddy has an ambitious Ocarina-like music system, where you find music notes around the world and play tunes to solve puzzles and stuff. Some nice Zelda-like dungeons, too.
Teslagrad is like a hybrid with a puzzle game, but it's nice enough.

Aria of Sorrow is a good sequel. The souls see better distribution and more use, and the bosses are great. The big problem is that they dumped the character portrait artstyle in favor of some generic anime garbage, and that you need to doodle to kill bosses. Also, it follows the plot of SotN a bit too much.

Symphony of the Night is still pretty good. Portrait of Ruin is fun, especially playing with the character swapping and seeing different weaknesses/enemy reactions. The GBA titles aren't bad. Order of Ecclesia wasn't that great.

The other titles tend to not be even the same game. The "Classicvania" line has much different control schemes and is much more about clearing levels and fighting bosses. Lord of Shadow is basically just God of War with a stupid story.

It kinda hurts the game that you don't find any items lying around, and only get them from enemy drops. All secret rooms ever contain is heart, HP and MP upgrades.

Just beat it for the first time like a week ago, and yeah, they were definitely the hardest boss. I managed to find a pattern where I toss holy water at the corner of the room, wait for them to circle round, jump attack the head 2 or 3 times, slide under their neck and repeat. Took like 15 minutes, though.
The falling rocks were kinda RNG based and could hit you even if you were under one of the dragons, which is bullshit. Took me around 10 tries, and when I managed to beat them I was one hit away from death.
The battle with Death, on the other hand, was an absolute joke.

This is the best Castlevania game I've ever played, and having played all the other DS games, as well as all of the NES titles, SNES titles, Genesis titles, and a PS2 title, I can easily say that this is my absolute favorite. The soundtrack is fantastic, the story really hits home for me, and I have a bit of nostalgia since it was one of the first games I played... pick up a ROM or copy PRONTO!

I would say yes because Portrait seems to have the most content out of all the titles. has new game+, Richter mode, and Lecarde sister mode. Also has multiplayer and a godtier OST by Yuzo Koshiro and Michiru Yamane. They really went all out with this one.

I'd say SOTN, Rondo, and Aria are the best.

Dawn had the issue of grinding souls for weapons, and the touch screen stuff. They really got carried away with the soul grinding compared to Aria as well because of the levels for each of the souls. In Aria, you just had the soul and that was it, it was better.

Not the best, but certainly not bad. Out of the three DSvanias I enjoyed the combat and mechanics the best in this one. Ecclesia was the most balanced and had the right amount of challenge and Sorrow had the most engaging abilities and atmosphere.

PoR biggest problem was that nearly everything in it was recycled. Everything from enemies from previous games, to locations and etc. The setting was wasted potential as well with having been set in WW2. Despite that, the game was always the one I remember the most from the DS trilogy of games.

Everyone else just dashes backwards like they're some kind of h-hayai anime edgelord(which they are, at least going by powerlevel) but Shanoa, Shanoa the normal human who dies from 3 hits from a skeleton, she does this cartwheel kinda aerobics, showing how much she is trying.

If Richter Belmont was a 10, Shanoa would be like a 3 at best and that's endgame. yes, -4 STR but also lack of Vampire Killer, lack of holy bloodline, lack of bulking up. And she still goes on to face Dracula, even if it's a weakened fresh from the tomb with no bloodpoints Dracula.
