There are many aspects that Berseria got wrong that have been present in modern Tales games such as poor music, boring visuals, and long hallways that are being called dungeons
The combat was pretty easy if you spammed with Velvet, but I have to give props that they made it so every character felt viable to play as with no extreme learning curves like going Yuri to Judth in Vesperia
Berseria did do its characters right though, best I've seen since Abyss, and the story is more interesting than the average Tales game imo

Eh, nobody plays Tales games since Abyss and Vesperia for the gameplay. The value of the games are entirely based on how much one enjoys the quality of the cast, the pace of things and the general taste for the storyline.

Berseria is easily the best JRPG I've played in years. It just kind of feels weird knowing it leads into Tales of Zestiria, because that shit is exactly why I quit the Tales series until Berseria.
It's a great example of a simple, typical JRPG plot that is carried by well written characters and the addition of gray morality to what is typically a setting for "good vs evil". Velvet is a perfect example of a flawed character being well written. I felt pity, sadness, and regret for how her life was ruined, but not to the point of excusing her hatred, anger, self loathing, and lack of any kind of morality or self control. Despite all of that, I wanted to see her happy, I felt good when she achieves her smaller victories and while it wasn't perfect, I'm glad she got some form of peace in the end.

Yeah, Phi's VA only really shines in the strong scenes of the game, otherwise being rather horribly girly sounding altogether for the rest. It is a woman voicing him after all so it's not weird that she souns like herself, but she just does a better job when forcing her voice.

Velvet snapping the fuck out of herself when first becoming a therion at the start of the game is, however, one of the best voice actings I have seen to date and entirely unexpected out of a localization work. That shit was heart wrenchingly terrifying the more the battle goes on and her screams and confusion are tangible.

Actually it's very very easy to understand 2B's character. That's part of the problem. Even with what A2 got she has more depth to her than 2B, who has pretty much nothing to her beyond 9S.

Also 2B was advertised as though she were the main character when she really isn't.
