BLACKED FOR 40 SECONDS

as long as it keeps the pirates at bay from Nier, who cares

It was confirmed that it affected performance when it got removed from Doom.

So far Devuno has gotten me to buy one game at a reduced price that I would have probably bought anyway even if I pirated it.

Bravo I guess. In all other instances I waited for a crack.

Funny thing is with games like Tales of Beseria I would have paid them money for it but they censored it, so I pirated it.

If they spent all that time and energy they spent on their shitty anti-piracy trash on fucking giving me back my censored scene, I would have given them cash.

They can do whatever they want to their games but it ends one of three ways:

1. Games eventually gets cracked and I pirate it.

2. Game doesn't get cracked, I wait for it to eventually go on sale and then buy it for fraction of the MSRP.

3. The game sucks and I don't pirate or buy it.

My backlog is more than long enough to play until your games' sales bottom out and you sell it for a song.

Regardless, I win in the end.

wow, it's almost like the DRM that came from the same Russians behind StarForce is malware. That leaves

Far Cry Primal - Ubisoft game with bad performance and bugs... What a surprise.

Dragon Age Inquisition - It doesn't run that bad and all problems on the PC version are also in the console version which doesn't even have Denuvo.

JUST Cause 3 - Shitty port, also has bad performance on console.

Rise of the Tomb Raider - Shitty port, also runs bad on Xbone.

Hitman - shitty port performance has improved with patches.

Anno 2055 - Another Ubisoft game, say no more.

Batman AK - A shitty outsources port.

Homefront: The Revolution - A terrible game that has the same performance problems on console as it does on PC

Total War: Warhammer - All the Total War games run like shit.

Out of the 26 games that use Denuvo only 8 have performance issues and several of which are just shitty ports.

>tell me hour fucking open and customizable denuvo games are
I'm talking about hardware and what "pc is all about". On PC, you can choose to not run Denuvo-riddled software. On consoles, you're constantly running Sony/MS/Nintendo overhead at all times with no choice of alternative software at all unless you want to void your warranty or even become a criminal for tampering with protection in some jurisdictions.

See? I can choose to play Doom 4 on PC or I can choose to not play it. I don't even have Windows running at the moment because I don't like DRM, but I can choose to temporarily boot into Windows, play the game and boot out of it. On Xbone, I either use MS DRM (that's always running and always online) or the whole console is useless. That is choice, customizability and openness of PC as a platform, not "fps and performance". So I hope you udnerstand how retarded you were and change for the better immediately, you underage piece of shit.

Because the result of mass pirating is shit like the DMCA and probably worse to come in the future? I don't really like the idea of a future where I have to purchase a modchip in order to jailbreak my PC, if such a thing is even an available option.
>>
>>375485647
it is running on a VM, of course it causes a performance hit, regardless of how well it's implemented.

the thing is they wont communicate any details to custumers on what it exactly does, classifying it as antitamper instead of DRM (though steam store page and eulas now state is as DRM) is one of the sketchy things.
on its own, antitamper software should need any online connection at all, demuvo requires to reach their servers though

I think budget utility + light gaming laptops are an untapped market. 1080p is a meme for budget laptops, 720p or 768p native gives you way better image clarity than upscaling peasant resolutions to 1080p.

There was the Acer V3 which was i3 6157U+ M2 SSD and a 720p screen for roughly that price for east european markets only, it sold out like hotcakes within weeks. For shit like LAN parties it's more than enough and 9 hours battery life.

I'm not sure who is trying to act morally superior. Don't project your moralism onto other people. Pirates can very well be morally justifed to a certain extent, at least as far a circumvention of DRM and vendor lock-in are concerned.

Back when Denuvo was newer we had these threads and people like you (probably STILL working for them) would say those things

Now we have proof that it does affect performance and since Denuvo is constantly changing and updating you have no way of saying it wont destroy my SSD (the mere fact it takes any space at all means it is literally killing my SSD, even if it is a little)

Doesn't bother me too much though, Denuvo is like a bad game filter for me at this point. And when the cracks come out the hype is also gone so I dont even care to do more than pirate, which I barely do anymore since most of them are trash.

new hardware, new multi-media features, new online features.
All of this is what new consoles bring.

FPS goes down, performance is see as FPS + Input lag, as in performance of the game not performance of the console, that also goes down.
>>
>>375491472
That's because modern games run very advanced graphics for their hardware. If they ran similar graphics to previous generations, they'd easily run at 60 fps. In other words, between generations the one thing that improves is performance: you can either have more FPS or more advanced graphics.

It's equally cancerous as the people saying that DRM is good and pirates shouldn't play.

I pirate because I'm poor, if I had the income I would pay, I just want to play, forget awful shit happening in this joke of existence.
if you pay because you can, then why you should care if some Brazilian kid plays it for free?
If you pirated it, why laugh at people who paid for it?
just enjoy the game, and talk about it with other people, both pirate and paying costumer played the same game, it doesn't really matter how you got the game, but how much joy the game gave you, or at least how less shitty your was for the length of that video game.
>>
>>375491552
>That's because modern games run very advanced graphics for their hardware.
They run advanced graphics for the 3-4 year outdated console hardware. Console are essentially budget PCs. They need to focus more on performance but that will never happen because normalfags are perfectly fine with subpar framerates with good graphics.

The original claim that Denuvo kills SSDs is not proven, retard. But since you fags don't give a shit about proofs, the rumor kept spreading. That's why those 2 videos exist and that's why you can cross-examine them yourself given the resources, i.e. a Denuvo game and any software of your choice that can monitor the SSDs. If you don't have the resources to disprove your videos then your opinion is meaningless and you should not have even stated the discussion.

>>
>>375490517
No one forces you to use a paid OS. You can use an open source one (obviously Linux). I know ,compatibility with games, bla bla bla...

My point wa sbasically that I think it's naive to act in a why because you think other people are good natured and will help as you try to. Usually that's very rare, so better just try to make the best of the present situation for yourself. The devs and publishers only want more money, and even if no one pirated they would still make it more inaccesible. Look at every single big tech company in the past 10 years and how increasingly every one of them as evolved into maximum control over privacy and user choice (meaning, they don't give you any freedom). Corporations don't give a fuck if you have any liberty, they just want your money.

Reason for no difference at 1440p is due to gpu limitation. At lower resolutions, the CPU becomes more important, which is why you start seeing a difference. The worse your CPU is, the more significant the difference becomes. This test was done with an i7-5820K, so you only get a ~7% difference.

Denuvo also heavily affects the start up time of games, as seen in Syberia 3, where the crack completely removed denuvo rather than just bypassing it.

Denuvo got removed months later after doom has recieved several patches, even the guy who wrote the article about it said it himself that hes comparing a older version of the game with a newer version.

http://www.game-debate.com/news/22656/denuvo-pc-performance-impact-tested-doom-benchmarks-with-and-without-denuvo-drm

>A lot has changed since we did our GTX 1060 Vulkan benchmarks in July 2016. There has been literally dozens of new Nvidia drivers, any of which may have a positive (or negative) impact on DOOM’s performance. DOOM itself has also been patched, another factor which may affect performance. To that end, we do not know for sure the results of this benchmark are directly indicative of Denuvo’s performance impact,

That's why i make sure when it comes to games with Denuvo that I buy the game from Steam for Linux and only play it on Linux. That way the Linux porter who doesn't use Denuvo for their version gets the money.

If a game uses Denuvo but its Windows-only and you don't like Denuvo the only way to really discourage its use is to not buy the game and not play it.
>>
>>375497589
Unfortunately I broke my no Denuvo rule for Nier Automata

Supporting Yoko Taro/supporting his games on PC was more important than my feelings on Denuvo. But I agree entirely, keep fighting the good fight and support Denuvo games that get Linux ports.

I'm only concerned about longevity. Why haven't the games that have been cracked for over a year removed Denuvo ? There's literally no reason to keep it around.
>>
>>375497723
The problem there is that Nier is from one of the companies who are contracting Feral Interactive to port their games to Linux. If you rush to buy the Windows version when the port comes the game will always count as a sale Denuvo generated.

It sucks having to wait for Linux ports, but doing that is the only way to encourage devs to both support other platforms, and discourage the use of Denuvo.
>>
>>375498024
Not a single one of Square Enix' Japanese games have been ported to Linux. I'm guessing Automata will be the first given its unprecedented success, but the keyword is unprecedented, everyone thought it'd sell 100,000 copies like every single other Yoko Taro game.

I'll be waiting for the linux port of FFXV though. That's absolutely guaranteed.
>>
>>375492826
pretty much this

which means that piracy is irrelevant. Never stop downloading poor anon, never pay for anything digital.
>>
>>375498253
This. It wasn't about "not wanting to wait", Square Enix deciding to port Nier Automata to Linux and Feral deciding to bother with it just because they ported Hitman and Tomb Raider was extremely unlikely.

We certainly made noise on the forums though.
>>
>>375498253
Its really bizarre how slow the Japanese side of these companies have been to support Linux. Considering Linux users are way more likely to be part of the core audience for Japanese content in the west.

The only recent Japanese release I can think of is Disgaea 2 which came out for Linux at the same time it came out for Windows.
>>
>>375498373
But then you gave them your money anway, which kind of defeats the argument that they should port it and not use Denuvo.

>>
>People saying Denuvo affects performance when it clearly does not in any capacity

Literally fake news
>>
>>375490796
Linux is still trash for gaming, unless the devs put in a ton of effort for the port like Metro Last Light there's usually like a 20% drop in performance. People in this thread are complaining about Denuvo hurting performance, well Linux you pretty much have to buy a better tier graphics card because the performance drop is so severe in many games. Trying to improve Mac gaming would be a better use of Valve's resources, unfortunately Apple is shit and doesn't want to upgrade their OpenGL in favor of their meme Metal API.
>>
>>375489097
it's been -22% since release. Check GMG.

mad_max_vulkan_benchmarks.png

>>375500575
>there's usually like a 20% drop in performance

That's due to the game being designed for the non-standard D3D workflow which doesn't translate well to standard OpenGL. Pushing devs to be Vulkan-first, or at least use Vulkan in their ports results in much better performance since its more low level meaning even if a game isn't designed for it the non-standard high level D3D workflow translates better to being on top of the low level Vulkan code.

See the difference Vulkan made for Mad Max, though since those benchmarks Mad Max OpenGL was improved significantly though still not to Vulkan levels.

>Trying to improve Mac gaming would be a better use of Valve's resources

Lol, no. MacOS is a proprietary OS. Only Apple can actually work on it and unlike Linux where the GPU makers can produce their own drivers that expose all their features (or in AMD's case, third parties can make better drivers than AMD could ever do) Apple restricts drivers for MacOS to only OpenGL 4.1, has blocked Vulkan, and is trying to force their phone graphics API Metal onto the desktop.

When it comes to performance loss from ports MacOS is actually worse since it doesn't support the latest OpenGL features, and has actually been holding some Linux games back since they have to share the same OpenGL codebase with the MacOS version which means no compute shaders or AZDO methods.
>>
>>375501034
>MacOS is a proprietary OS.
That's not a good criticism when proprietary OS' have historically been better for sound and graphics than open source. The main reason Nvidia's Linux drivers work well is because of how invasive they are, Nvidia essentially rewrote X because of how shit the kernel modesetting is. AMD didn't even care about Linux until fairly recently. When the GPU companies get off their ass and support Linux it's not for gaming, it's for GPGPU or embedded devices. (Hence why Nvidia has pretty good BSD drivers, they know it wil pay off) Open source is good for a lot of things but it's always been behind in content creation and games.

>>375497723
>There's literally no reason to keep it around
Either pride or laziness.
>>
>>375501560
>That's not a good criticism
It is in this case because the claim was that Valve would be better off investing in MacOS. They literally can't because its closed source, and controlled by a phone company who have no interest in desktop gaming which they see as a competitor to their primary business.
Valve are investing heavily in Linux hiring key developers like Keith Packard to work on the RadV driver and Wayland because that's basically their only option.

>When the GPU companies get off their ass and support Linux it's not for gaming
That was true several years ago. Now Nvidia are releasing driver updates when new games are released just like they do on Windows, and AMD are hiring more developers to work on the open source drivers which are specifically for gaming since they don't currently have OpenCL or official support that professional applications and HPC need.

>Open source is good for a lot of things but it's always been behind in content creation and games.
Depends on what you're talking about. A number of professional content creation tools are open source and have been now for years. Pixar's Renderman for instance which they use in production of their movies is open and primarily used on Linux.

In this case it isn't.

high level API to high level API
D3D9 -> OpenGL 3.3
D3D11 -> OpenGL 4.5
Many things don't translate well due to differences in how one high level call might work behind the scenes compared to another. End result is performance suffers.

high level API to low level API
D3D9 -> Gallium Nine (RadeonSI)
D3D11 -> Vulkan
Allows for much easier translation since you can map the high level calls to separate individual low level calls which can reproduce the same results much more efficiently.

Keep in mind if you're using Vulkan on Windows you're not getting the full benefit. Microsoft as usual is slowing down the competing API just like they've done time and again over the years.

Only fucking cucks try to defend pirating with stupid arguments about morals or voting with your wallet. Maybe I do, maybe I don't, the baseline is that I pirate because I can and I want to, there is nothing you corporate cocksuckers or DRM shills can do about it.

Load times aren't performance. Though in most implementations, denuvo only kills the initial boot up time, which is better than a lot of other drm that make level loading slow as well.
As always, of course, the devs can opt to kill level load times with denuvo as well.
>>
>>375509303
Because Denuvo is built into the game, they can't just "remove it" as it would require to much work for their lazy cheap asses. There's a reason it's so hard to crack Denuvo and it's only crackable on a game-to-game basis, and why when someone takes the time and effort to remove all traces of it (or most) from a program it mysteriously runs a lot better.

Have you seen the graph of users in the last 5 years? Not only has the usercount increased massively, but phoneposters have now surpassed normal posters. Needless to say that the average phoneposter tends a whole lot more towards Reddit.

On top of that certain events in the last few years have seen the old userbase migrate to other chans which have popped up lately. While we have DoW3 hype threads, they have "laugh at the DoW3 dumpsterfire" threads.

TL:DR the Redditor invasion people worried so much over for years has happened in full. You can see this everywhere.

Why are PC games becoming so lame that it literally isn't even worth it to pirate it let alone buy it.

For example they took MGSV off of the Pirate Bay and I had to find it on some Russian bs site.

AFTER playing it I didn't even like it even though it's my favorite series so of course I never purchased it.

On another note these games like DOOM and such are just such bullshit being 64gb and all. WHY WOULD I EVEN BUY THEM LET ALONE PIRATE THEM.

I mean you either pirate it or don't buy it. Maybe you buy it several years later for $5. Either way they loose.
