I've never let the alert get higher than 50% and that was me being bad in the first dungeon. After that you have no excuse really. In fact I don't think any palace except for the first has enemies that actually get the drop on you, like when you approach the chest in the churchy area, or when more come up the elevator.

Naoto was garbage in the original 4 because her elemental coverage was light and dark, which at the time was only instant kill. Megido spells were also extremely expensive. Akechi is if you took that an actually made it kind of useful thanks to Kouha and Eiga while coming with a Severe tier physical attack.

The only thing I found odd is that Robin Hood doesn't come with gun attacks.

Iwai's gun customization is garbage, yeah. The King gives some good perks. Guaranteed knockdown 3 times per day is a lifesaver in the midgame, and Hail of Bullets really helps late game (Chance at start of battle to do one clip's worth of damage to all opponents for free) when creatures have so much health an All Out Attack isn't guaranteed to kill.
