Its not hard to understand his motivations, the guy even has clones play with his son instead of going to see him as well in the Gaiden.

He thinks he can handle everything with clones, and its just as good. He sends out a thousand clones all day to deal with misc shit, and it works out just fine, while he does paper work.

For Naruto, him sending a clone to his daughter's party was just him doing the same thing he always does, except this time it blows up in his face.

People act like this is somehow out of character despite it fitting the character entirely as its established in Gaiden and Boruto, with him using this tactic for everything. He's a busy guy, clones can deal with most shit, and he doesn't understand that there are some situations where clone isn't good enough.

A character needs to not be great at something in order to improve as a character though. After he fucked up here, he stopped sending clones home, and instead tried to talk to his son through e-mail, rather than clone, and he really did come home eventually later that week.

He's not too great of a parent, its awkward for him, so he tries to stay away at times, but he's getting better or trying at least.

He is the guy that doesn't want attention, isn't remembered as much by history, and tends to fuck off somewhere and no one except the light guy knows what happened there typically. This is the guy who in the shadows protected the light guy and was just as strong as him, but isn't as remembered.

We already know from the flashbacks, three flashbacks in particular, that its entirely wrong to say that Hagumoto just did all the shit because "Fuck this brother who I didn't know about as much, he was obviously just a lazy asshole, and the real show was the guy I did know about, he's the only one who did shit".

History always shows a pattern here; there's the guy in the light and the guy in the dark, one of them is remembered as the light of the world, the other protects things from the shadows in his own way but is distinctly less remembered outside of their generation, but they're always yin and yang with each other, and basically just as powerful.

The reason Hameru isn't as remembered is obvious; he fucked off to the Moon after their battle with their mother, to forever watch over the seal, so that it would never break.

He's apparently "immortalish", so it was almost a good plan you could say. Apparently he wasn't quite immortal as he needed to be to make it work though. He still somehow lived to the current age almost.
