How the fuck do you get past central yharnam?
When I'm not dying by a squad of motherfuckers, I'm dying by the big motherfucker. When I'm not dying by the big motherfucker, I'm dying by two spider motherfuckers.

>>
There are no spiders in central though, the fuck are you on about

Stop playing like a retard. Fight things in ones or twos. Draw the crowds apart. You can stagger stuff with regular attacks, this isn't Dark Souls where everything sucks and minor enemies are still huge threats.
You can shoot things in the middle of their attack animations to stun them, and then you can get a damaging visceral attack by running up and R1ing them.
What weapon did you start with?

>>324292465
The cleaver, I think
>>
Do what I did and just run past everyone. It's very easily doable.
>>
>>324291954
What's your weapon of choice?

If you're so desperate, you should know that enemies have a short line of sight and shorter memories. You can run past them easily through the next part with the Shrek. Only fall down from that area to the left. Kill the spooky dogs, head up the stairs and into the house. Go through and exit the house, up another set of stairs where one guys is standing, and open the gate so you have a shortcut back to this area.

>>324294517
which gun is better? blunderbuss or regular pistol?
>>
>>324294274
dodge forward through everything he does, tap him twice, wait for him to attack again and then do it again.
If you have the music box, you can hit it up to 3 times during the fight to stagger him long enough to get a backstab [R2] and visceral on him. With the knockdown you can start the box again and loop it until you hit the third one, at which point he automatically reaches his third phase regardless of his health.
Which is fine, because it's even easier than his human form.

If you really, really need it, you can pull him up the stairs in the back of the graveyard to fight on flat ground so you stop getting stuck on gravestones.

>>
>>324294770
Pistol is faster, blunderbuss shoots a shotgun blast. If you want to parry shit I would go with the pistol but both work.

Use what you like, nigga.
>>
>>324294197
>Cleric Beast
Use the saw cleaver/saw spear in its normal state. Focus on the sides of his legs. Lock on and aim at his head, start firing until you gets him mid-attack and he'll stagger. Get in close to the head (you can dash forward while locked on) and press R1 to visceral attack. He starts going berserk at low health, visceral attacking early could make him start doing this faster, so wait until he's about half way down to do one. If you want to play it safe, just lock on and starts throwing molotovs when he's going nuts.
>>
>>324294194
there's nothing so brazen that Miyazaki won't rip off from Berserk.
>>
>>324294770
Cane is the earliest skill build weapon and while it scales slower than the axe or cleaver it becomes very good around +6
>>
>>324294770
The cane whip will scale really, really well with upgrades later on. Also, the whip mode is really amazing at crowd control. If you keep things at tip range you can just keep chipping away at them in almost total safety.

Generally speaking the pistol is better, but the blunderbuss can hit multiple dogs if you're having dog problems.

>>
>>324294770
Pistol is better for Cleric Beast, Blunderbuss might be better for Gascoigne.
>>
Have you unlocked the short cut at the lamp? Did you find the cleric beast? Do these things and level up.
>>
>>324294197
First understand that armor serves no other purpose than to look badass like all Souls games. It hardly makes a difference. Whatever enemy would take 5 hits to kill you will probably take 6 with the highest defense stats. Just look good.
Second use your gun. Learn to parry. Get a wide weapon to deal with crowds and for range, and a small effective weapon like saw cleaver.
Third never unequip saw cleaver under any circumstances ever. After that it just takes practice.
>>
>>324294930
Shooting an enemy while they're attacking (usually any time during their active frames, you'll get the timing) will "parry" them. Then get in front of them and hit R1 to trigger a visceral attack.
>>
>buy Ludwig's Rifle
>it's basically just the blunderbuss
>>
>>324295064
By the way, stick with the saw cleaver if you're not bothering with skill, but switch to the saw spear if you are. They function the same in combat with the exception of their scaling.
>>
>>324295230
how do you do the special attacks (equivalent of backstabbing in dark souls)?
>>
>>324295378
Charge attack from behind then R1.
>>
>>324295378
Stagger them with your gun or charge attack them from behind. After that it's the same as DaS.
>>
>>324295308
Yeah, wait for the "downward stroke," of an attack. After they've wound up and are beginning to strike.
>>
>>324295229
Not him, but I need a protip on how to unlock that shortcut
>>
>>324295064
No all has to do is this.

>stay by legs
>don't worry too much about his light slap
>r1 > l1 > l1 > repeat till low stamina
>dodge away
>heal if needed
>return to step one

this is how you face roll half the beasts in the game. Apply fire paper and you will have gotten good.
>>
>>324294770
Nothing feels better than whacking a group with your whip, which will happen often later on.
But it's a bit of a struggle early on, not really recommended for beginners, but fuck it, I did it anyway and I loved it.
>>
you can parry almost all bosses too unlike in souls games so take a good care of that
>>
>>324295378
By hitting R1 in their face when they're down on their knees. There's a really noticeable noise that indicates you did it right.
You can get them on their knees by either landing a charged R2 attack right on their back (some weapons don't get this, like the axe and whip in transformed mode), or parry them with your gun.

>Save your music box
Iirc it'll work 2, possibly 3 times in his human form but then it'll become ineffective in beast form. But regardless of how many times you use it in human form it will only work on him once in beast form. So what I do is only use it once during human form, then when I get his health down enough in beast form, use the music box and fuck his shit up. Whatever little health he has left I honestly just go panic mode and it usually works out lol.

Never use the threaded shit flosser. It's not worth shit. If you picked the axe as your starting weapon, you fucked yourself from the start but thats okay since you can just buy the cleaver for cheap from the shop in the hunters dream.

Cleaver does very exceptional damage for what little stamina is required. You can get in and get out of any situation quickly enough if you aren't greedy. Most other weapons are slightly sluggish.

Learn to parry. This skill will carry you throughout the game. It can be used on anything that isn't a giant or any boss bigger than the Vicar. Parrying is when you shoot your enemy right as they're swinging their attack towards you, and they stagger. During this stagger, R1 to do a visceral attack (but make sure you're right up close to them). Once you reach a high enough level V attacks will pretty much 1 shot every enemy, and do a shit load of damage to bosses.

But for the moment just use it to slowly but surely shave off Gascoignes hp. It'll take some practice but once you got it down you won't look back.

Okay, run through central Yharnam and stay to the left. When you get past the guys standing around the fire and into the area with the fountain, stay to the left and roll through the boxes until you find a hole in the fence with a bunch of dogs in cages and two dogs roaming the sidewalk. Kill them and turn left again. Now you'll be in sort of a big tunnel with a closed door at the end. Go into this door and there will be a man standing in front of you and another in a wheelchair further back in the room. Don't go up the stairs yet. There will be a door directly across from where you entered. When you go through this door you'll be back on open sidewalk and there will be a small set of stars with one guy standing on it. Kill him and run up the stairs, you should be at the gate infront of the lamp.

As for the cleric beast, run up the stairs up the house and turn left. Or if you're coming from a different direction, run in the opposite direction from werewolves.
>>
Newbie who spent 3-4 fucking hours on Central Yharnam here. Finished the game since that time, and went through this area in 30minutes in my new game.

If you struggle, keep in mind that you can run past enemies. And as some anons said, go die against the boss so you can level up. To kill the 2 werewolves easily, throw some molotovs.

As for newbie builds, I think starting with the saw cleaver is the best. It's fast, it hits hard. You would want to get a lot of life (vitality) early on to avoid getting one shot, so I think "last survivor" is a good start. Also, you can get an armor in the sewers. So either go there first or try your luck on the cleric beast. Don't forget to unlock the shortcut before the boss.

>>324297157
The difference between the two is that in DaS1 and BB the mobs are extremely weak so even though there's a lot of them you can cut them down in swaths. While in DaS2 you have things like the Alonne Knights or the Cyan Knights or the Elephant Guardians where unless you're rolling a certain weapon type you're in for a very long and drawn out fight. Made worse by the fact that in DaS2 it has an annoying habit of making mobs aggro in groups. The worst example of this is during the Royal Rat Authority fight. You attempt to aggro one of the toxic inducing dogs at you but then all of them come at you anyway. Which is a pain in the ass if you don't get them all before they toxic you. That's mainly the difference.

Brygenwerth is puny and empty.
Every boss is a bunch of halfbaked ideas besides Gehrman that just kind of fall flat. The One Reborn is almost a joke boss. Micolash -is- a joke boss. Rom is just a boring, tedious mess of an encounter. By the time any player who's leveling and upgrading intelligently at all gets to Wet Nurse she's so unthreatening she might as well just be a regular enemy with an inflated health pool unless she actually decides to clone herself.
Moon Presence and Shadows of Yharnam are lol.

Some of the optional stuff like Eburi-chan is pretty good but even the stage areas after Amelia just kind of fall apart.

The DLC, on the other hand, obviously had a lot of thought put into enemy and hazard placement, and is just very well done, similar to the pre-Amelia base game.

Precisely what I mean. That habit will fuck over a lot of players and get them into cheesing the cheesing mentality from the very beginning which destroys pretty much all the fun. Also puts you in for a rude awakening when you encounter smaller, aggressive enemies in tighter areas where you won't have that luxury of backing up and charging.

I say only use the axe for situational encounters, for the over head R2 R1 combo.
>>

Mos Def

Alfred's monolouge after shredding queen anal is very memorable
You can really feel his insanity and how deep he believes in martydom
>>
>>324298091
Yes it does, there's one above the little alcove the boar used to be under. Near the elevator.

Only during bloodmoon, though.
>>
>>324297848
I've never liked the term cheese to describe the axe. You have to properly time the charge, and the spin isn't the best way to kill everything. If you aren't putting in the effort required to figure out the best way to kill something, you'll get shit on no matter the weapon.
>>
>>324297674

The mobs are not so weak especially the mensis ones and oh boy the hunters at the Hypogean Gaol lamp 3 hunters at once. But you are right they are lurable instead of the headache that you have to deal with DS2 but that is how I got gud in the first place and went through BB with ease so thank fuck DS2 for that. Also on a side note the fucking chalice dungeons are much worse than DS2's mob aggro (chime, maiden, witches, patrols) luring them out one by one is tedious this includes base game. So I slaughter most of them wholesale unlock mode.

Oh well not everything is perfect.
>>

Which guy playing solitaire? Is it the guy who lives across from Arianna? I could never get him to odeon chapel even when I exhaust his dialogue.

Huge bummer BB's NPCs don't get the attention DaS' did. I would have really loved some more pleasant moments with Alfred before you're smacked in the face with his lunacy. It was really sad to think about how he didn't even go mad, that's just who he was.
>>
>>324298886
There's a few other annoying decisions like how you step down a small platform to use the Iron Keep bonfire, therefore you have to either teleport or go all the way through Belfrey Sol to get back to where you were.

>>
>>324299009
I'm not sure how that's relevant to them being the same actor.
>>
>>324298978
I don't know the NPCs in Bloodborne are all so unstable it's kind of hard to relate to them sometimes. Yeah in Dark Souls they weren't the most stable people either but you could relate to Laurentius wanting to live up to the Witch's legends or Seigmeyer wanting one last hurrah before he hollows out. In Bloodborne I could only really relate to the Adella x Arianna conflict or the Alfred storyline. Well and Gascoigne's daughters. But like Iosefka's storyline was so weird and surreal to me that it kind of threw me for a loop.

No. Fuck that fight. I hate it. It's so fucking easy and I still died to it because thing 1 and thing 2 happened to right next to each other, with one in front and one behind. Setting up a double raping of my eyeballs that fucked my shit up so hard, that my buttmad caused me to not come back to the area until the end of the game.

Where is Eileen after finishing her quest?
>>
>>324299273
Oh, I missed that point. I was just commenting on how when making comparisons on recycled aspects which From often does, people often compare Solaire and Alfred
>>

>>
>>324299812
I thought she's a covenant leader?
>>
>>324300020
Technically though theres no practical reason to talk to her after you get the rune since the only thing it does outside of better stam recovery is you can't be paired up with Vilebloods for coop. Factions are basically irrelevant in bloodborne.
>>
>>324299674
You are Eileen now. She left you her legacy. It's probably the most positive ending a Souls character has ever gotten. Unless you think Solaire canonically linked the fire after the CU became lord of darkness.
>>
>>324294194
That might just be the best most highest quality cosplay I've ever seen.

I fucking need this outfit in my life.
>>
>>324300020
Covenants are very different in Bloodborne, the only ones you can really rank up in are the objectively superior League and those dirty Vilebloods.
>>
>>324291954
Jesus Christ dude. I suck at souls games. Like really bad but even I beat Bloodborne. Just have patience and learn attack patterns. If it really got tough I just grinded Hemwick Lane and leveled up until I could get past a part I was stuck at. Bloodborne is fucking fun as shit if you take the time to actually learn the game. And again, this is coming from someone who played Demons Souls, hated it then played Bloodborne and now loves these types of games. Don't give up.

>>324302569
It's Bloodborne's giantdad build. Just like giantdad was base zweihander stats, this build is base wheel stats and using flat arcane gems to give it massive damage on it's transformed attacks since they do multihits. Meaning you can pump your stats instead into vitality.

It's pretty much the same thing except giantdad was a stam gouge isntead of a vitgouge.

>>
>>324302732
Thanks, that makes sense.
>>
>>324303178
You can gem regular STR route if you want.

You could go 50 vitality instead and pump those 30 points into STR for 50 STR/50 VIT and do more damage.

I just figure, it already does good damage anyway. Why not get immense amount of health to avoid oneshots from things like ripostes and bloodletter l2s.
>>
I got stuck on the final boss(for non-ascenion ending) when the game first came out. I fired it up this afternoon and killed him first time, easy.

So I bought the dlc and started an arcane build. Thought the beginning would be a piece of cake. Nope. Can get to the town and take out the werewolves easy enough but I keep getting ganked looking for the lantern. I don't have to take out the cleric beast do I? I could swear there's a lantern before it?
>>
>>324302947
How unbearably terrible was getting the gems for it
>>
>>324304647
Gotta kill the Cleric.
>>
>>324304647
Central->Great Bridge->Tomb->Cathedral

From what I can tell you want to get the holy moonlight sword. Also most of the DLC weapons scale with arcane.
>>
>>324304885
Not that bad. I went the extra mile for some real korean mmo teir gems though, but the regular 67.5 arcanes and the 70's you get from the brainsucker boss are still very close to this damage anyway.

I was just trying to squeeze as much potential out of it as I could. This is still nothing.

Theoretically, max wheel potential would be 3 Nourishing + 72.5 flat arcanes, 2 via offshape drops.

You'd literally farm for a year straight to make that happen though.
>>
>>324305506
From what I've read. If you stick an elemental gem in a physical weapon it will allow it to scale with arcane.
>>
>>324305506
Every weapon has arcane scaling, but you need to either:

Buff it with a fire/bolt/arcane weapon buff which scales off the arcane stat and the weapons scaling amount

or

Put elemental conversion gems into it, which causes it to no longer use it's physical scaling stats and use only the arcane stat.
>>
Git gud
>>
>>324305758
Yes. From what I've seen the Beast Hunter Saifn is good for that from the DLC. Otherwise you'd be better off with the Holy Blade or the Hunter Axe.

>>324306823
As far as I've known the arcane damage from phantasm is just a flat amount.
>>
I just got this game & I'm having problems with first bosses that I'm almost ready to shelf it or sell it.

I picked cane & blunderbuss, wanting to focus on skill & bloodtinge because I liked the idea of shooting things.

Have I made a huge mistake in how I started?
>>
>>324307965
no, that's almost exactly how I started out.
stop being a pussy and learn the patterns. Fight Cleric Beast first, then you'll be able to level up, even if you don't kill it.
>>
>>324307965
No. However it may behoove you to the sewer entrance by the old lady house, and knock down the corpse hanging from the ceiling to get the saw spear. This does 20% more damage to the cleric beast, and its short form is very fast. There are several tips in this thread for both of the first bosses. Bloodtinge may not be ideal to focus on as a beginner, as your first playthrough will likely only use guns for parrying to set up visceral attacks.

ANYONE can beat Bloodborne in any way they want. Try not to tank your way through the game though, that makes it a little less fun.
>>
>>324308297
I have been levelling up. But I keep failing the bosses & use up all my healing items during the failures.

I thought maybe summon npcs since I'm offline, but the locations arent showing up for some reason despite having the bells.
>>
>>324308430
I have the saw spear already but still fail. I've been all over the area it's just the bosses I can't get past.

I also have music box.
>>
>>324308597
The only NPC you can summon right now is Gascoigne, who can't be summoned once his boss fight is activated. NPC's steal your sense of accomplishment anyway. Remember that you can keep Gascoigne at bay using the gravestones before he transforms, and the Cleric Beast is easily parried when his head isn't bloody.
>>
>>324308871
Again, tips are right here in this thread. Keep to the side of the Cleric Beast, attacking his legs. Target him and fire to stagger him, then visceral attack with R1. If you're not feeling confident, polish him off with molotovs. The Cleric Beast greatly telegraphs his attacks, you can learn them.
>>
>>324308961
Also summoning NPC's costs insight
>>
>>324308871
Save your molotovs for Gascoine's beast mode.

Cleric beast isn't that hard, just use the saw spear and wail on his big arm or legs, don't lock onto him and try your best to learn the timings and rolldodge the attacks.

The game is just trying to help you git gud. Once you aquire the skills, the game will open up and you'll be having some proper fun.
>>
>>324308961
I can sometimes cheese Gascoigne for a while using graves & the whip, but werewolf form kills me each time. Or sometimes the big axe.

>>324309365
I must be bad at dodging, because the cleric keeps back handing me over & over & wears me down. I can't afford molotovs anymore, farming goes towards blood vials since since I use them all up on bosses
>>
>>324309365
Also one more super important tip that will help you greatly in Gascoines fight.

Dodge TOWARDS him, not away. ESPECIALLY in his beast form. Otherwise he'll keep pounce juggling you as you try to get up. Dash TOWARDS him and around to try and hit his back.
>>
>tfw laurence took me a million fucking attempts

Tell me I'm over the worst of it. I still have orphan of kos, gehrman and moon presence to go. Lie to me /v/, tell me I'll be fine from now.
>>
>>324309882
You said you have the music box, right? Use that only when he gets to beast mode. It will work once. If you haven't used it until this point, it wil stun him for a long-ass time. Get behind, target, charge an R2 and strike. He'll stagger, allowing you to press R1 to perform a backstab. You can also use a large tree in the back corner to keep his beast form at bay, since he can't break those like the graves.
>>
>>324310139
>orphan of kos
EUAAAGH
AAAAAHHH
UUUUUUUUAAAAGGHHHH
>>
>>324309882
Grab and Axe to help you farm. You don't need to have lots of Str to use it effectively here. The trolls drop blood vials, as well as the sword guy in the house, and the two werewolves drop them as well. They are easy to kill if you aggro them then run back to the house, where they can't enter.
>>
>>324309883
>Also one more super important tip that will help you greatly in almost every boss fight.
As someoe who's first "souls" game was bloodborne, I was having a lot of trouble until I figured this out.
>>
>>324310139
That's probably the worst of it so long as you know your parrying.
>>
>>324310183
I've been using the music box everytime, though it takes so long to open sometimes I get wrecked waiting. Maybe I'm opening it at the wrong moment.

>>324310382
I already have the axe since I thought it would help with Gascoigne.
>>
>>324310139
Laurence was a joke to me. I firmly believe Orphan is the hardest boss in all souls games.
Fuck that piece of shit.
Gehrman can get a little hairy. MP is a joke.
>>
>people use the axe in the beginning
Use the whip, pretty much ez visceral attacks on the first few bosses
>>
>>324310139
Orphan and Gherman you need to parry,

Moon Presence is super easy.
>>
>>324310139
Laurence had an easier moveset to get used to. Orphan killed me a lot in his last form because of him constantly attacking with infinite stamina
