Just look at #FE and how well that is doing sales wise right now, being a niche JRPG on the Wii U.

At this point, they would be better off making a Vita port. The Wii U has a very small install base, and a finicky one at that. The hassle of properly porting it to Wii U (use of the gamepad) is not worth it, and would drive up even more development time. If there were as many cool RPGs on the Megadrive and PC Engine maybe SMT1's Mega CD and PC Engine CD versions would have been more successful on account of more RPG fans buying either of those systems. I don't have numbers but the sequel and other related games didn't get versions on the SNES's competitors so it feels safe to say they didn't sell well enough to justify trying again.
