D3 was pretty great, especially with the amount of generics,
also they had best voice actors for english dub, including liam o'brien as master big star. he voiced grimoire weiss, Kain the draggoon in FFdissidia, Caius from FF13 etc. truly the best VA

3 and prior doesn't have a lot of the luxuries that 4 and on have, such as restarting levels and going back to the netherworld without exiting the game, as well as repositioning units without pressing O to put them back at their original position. Also, getting new skills for your units works completely differently in the other games(not sure about DD2 since I haven't played it). You have to buy them using mana, like you do with Evilities in D5. Also, you can't skip animations if they've already started in D3 and its predecessors. I might be missing some things but these are what stood out to me as the biggest problems with older titles.

Started playing D5 a few days ago and I just wanted to say that she is absolute shit. Easily one of the worst characters I've ever encountered in games and anime. Every time she speaks I want to seppuku myself. Also, Killia is a horribly generic edgy MC complete with inner darkness buttfuckery and everything.

The actual game-play itself is definitely good though. I'm really enjoying it but I fucking hate most of the main cast of characters. I see what they meant when they said they wanted to broaden the appeal. Also the default base music is godawful.

Not as much grinding as you might expect. It really is an optional part of the game. Hell, you can adjust the difficulty in-game through the council of hell if you find things too hard or too easy. The exp rewards will match the difficulty of course.

If you don't mind grinding however, there's a lot of content to explore and mess around with. I really liked the Item World. From what I remember, it allowed you to enter a piece of equipment, which generated several dozen floors of randomized dungeons. By powering through them, you would find decent loot and enhance the item you were exploring.

It really seems like Sato dropped the ball with the music in D5, the base song is absolute shit compared to 3 and 4, and I'd still say that 1 and 2 had better base music. Setting the base music to track 15, that jazz fusion style track fits a whole lot better.

As far as characters, I liked Killia's deadpan voice more than I thought I would and Usalia's overload is the best shit ever.

A lot of people hate Mao because his character arc is the same as Laharl's but I enjoyed his mad scientist shtick.
Almaz is pretty much the straight man of the game, but he's alright.
Sapphire has a personality, but I can't really place it.
Champloo is great, probably one of the more entertaining characters in the game.
Raspberyl and her girls are pretty cute. I love them.
Master Bigstar is one of those pretty boy types, but he has some funny scenes.
Salvatore tries to be a fun character, but I felt like she was kind of boring.

Everyone in Disgaea world is a cold bitch at times; morals in general are pretty warped and strange at times. Even Hero of Justice Adell doesn't mind beating people up for basically no reason most of the time, and just being "Well fuck it, I'm still not saying sorry or anything, they shouldn't have been there" next time he sees them.

People don't mind fucking each other over horribly in various ways, and letting bygones be bygones when they meet again 400 years later or something if that person is still alive.

There's only a few outliers to be found; like Laharl's dad, Rozalin, Xenolith, etc.

Demons aren't really supposed to have love of family ties generally, its a world where one day one may just eat the other, and that's just it really. Its no wonder Flonne fits in with them so well, if she has that side to her in the end as well.

Etna and Laharl usually fuck-over each other over the stupidest stuff, like the Pudding in Infinite (actually an excuse as DD2 revealed) or the Nice-Body in D4. Sorta like what siblings do. I know of a lot of straight traps in doujinshi and manga though. That type of trap usually becomes a trap unwillingly or in order to get close to the girl in question, in a sneaky way.

Trapfags typically hate that kind of trap at times though, going "That's heretical", but honestly they're still pretty common among traps. Also there's the traps who only dress like that for the personal benefits, and not for any sexual reason.

There are many male healers out there, that just happen to look the same. That one is a guy with two kids, but there are others.

Its RPG rules; a male healer could be a toddler, a child, an old man, or a manly man, but he'd still look the same. Which is one problem Axel gets into during his route in D2 when he ends up beating up a lot of kids because they look like strong monsters.
