I've really yet to see a bad outfit. Though I love how the old hunter's had and things like the charred hunter's cloak practically make you look like Vampire Hunter D. It's especially interesting since in the books, he's described as wearing a coat with a cape/cloak compared to the films where he has the armor/bodysuit and cape

You can clearly see that the player model at the start of Dark Souls 2 is male.

Whereas in Bloodborne you can choose your gender and start the game and your gender is already set for good. Every scene will show your character in what gender you chose.


Also, gender is kind of ambiguous in Bloodborne. Prior to the DLC, the Old Hunter Bone hunter tool, hinted that Gherman had a male student, but Lady Maria is clearly a woman, when the DLC came out.

Old Hunter Brador of the DLC also recognizes the player, but even in the English dub, never refers to our gender, only acknowledges our return.

I know about the one in the sewer, but I'm speaking from the general standpoint of what most first timers will experience, wherein many will just seek the standard garb and eventually find the free set in the sewers once they're able to reach the bridge with the wolves and cleric beast. Unless you have knowledge from friends or guides, I doubt most find the free gear without at least trying some of the on sale gear offered. Still, it's nice how the game does reward you with some great shit if you're patient enough and willing to allow some deaths should you fuck on the way to them
