Depends on what you mean by hard.

Everyone in GG is hard to play. Everyone has their own gameplan, their own strengths, and their own ranges that they excel at.

Chipp is hard in two senses. The first being execution. Look up "jump installs", they're crucial to Chipp's gameplay and really hard to master. Chipp's combos are tough, so expect to put lots of lab time in, but I'd personally say that execution isn't hard, just time consuimg, as you spend a long time doing the same combo over and over.

The other aspect of his difficulty is his gameplan. You have to think REALLY fast as Chipp. His easiest special is a teleport, so you can be pretty much anywhere on screen at any time. You have to analyze where you'd be safe, where the opponent is vulnerable, and be unpredictable on top of that. His damage isn't very high, so expect to have to land lots of hits into combos to start winning matches. Check out Kensou on twitch, dude's an OG bro who's been playing Chipp forever and always helps new players out. He'd probably even be down to do some one on one time with you to show you some basics.

Everyone is Xrd is hard at some level. Chipp's high tier, but hard work. IF you think he'd cool, don't let anything stop you. Venom was my first fighting game character and I'm still playing him. He isn't easy, but getting good with him feels awesome.

Lots and lots and lots of practice.

Learn to IAD. Like, learn to ALWAYS IAD. Then, if it applies to your character, learn to teleport. Learn to super jump. Learn to backdash. Learn to FD and block in the air.

Once you have learned all these things, do them.

I practice movement by setting the CPU to max difficulty and trying to run away with only minimal attacking. If you want, you can set your health to 1 in practice mode, and see how long you can go without taking damage. Chip will kill you instantly.

Basics.

Be able to IAD reliably.

Be able to gatling from a normal into special, like 5P to c.S to F.S to [insert special here].

Learn your character's shit. Venom's balls, maintaining pressure with Zato, being able to properly keep fullscreen pressure with Ky, YRCing for mixups with Ky, keeping the screen chaotic with May, cancelling all around your arsenal of specials with Sin, etc.

Learn to crossup. Practice defending against crossups by recording a dummy.

Be able to reliably YRC your specials.

Practice mobility first and foremost. I-no is one of the most mobile characters in the cast. Backdashing, IADing backwards, double jumping, and being able to close the distance from anywhere on screen. This will serve you well.

A lot of the players I've played with in /v/ lobbies so far have weak oki and are susceptible to oki set-ups themselves. If you get KD, pull a pineberry and throw it at them, they have to deal with it and can't just mash buttons without a plan.

learn spacing of normals for far slash and your hard slash. practice his launcher of close slash 2HS. practice his air ender of j.s j.p j.s dj.s dj.hs dj.623hs. if you score a hit that puts them air born like antiair 6P or 2HS or Greed Sever, you go into the juggle into air ender. If you RC a 236K or Throw or 623HS, you can do the juggle into the air ender. These are very basic combos and should be second nature to pick up easy dmg from starting out. Once those are engrained in you and you dont even think about converting off random hits, work on your oki with the 236D enders and doing 236HS on their knockdown. 236HS yrc is probably best use of meter. If they go to air a lot, ky has some amazing air to air normals. Can lock them in block stun and force a mixup if they block a slash or punch in air as you can just go j.pspspsps over and over til you both land.

Immediately use CSE (236H) after hitting with 236D and then run-up and apply pressure. You can do run up throw, dashing jump late air-dash j.S > j.HS > combo, dashing jump empty jump, or anything else you want.

Learn to occasionally reset pressure with 6K and 6HS. If you've been consistently doing something like 2P>5K>2S>2D and people are respecting it, do something like 5K>c.S>6K and then start your blockstring again from the beginning.
