I am on the reverse here, loved thief but can't get into deus ex.

Just force yourself to play it, I think that's how I got through the dated controls and started enjoying older games myself.

Thief doesn't even have dated controls. The defaults are unusual but they all map to a normal WASD layout.

DE can be played as a rooty tooty point and shooty so no shit you loved it. Thief demands a patient and methodical mindset, you need to learn your surrouding and actually think about what to do and sometimes improvise. If you don't like slow paced games that require a lot of patience and thinking Thief is not for you. I'm not saying you wouldn't be able to finish it, the game is not that hard, but you won't enjoy it so it would be a pointless effort.
