Why is Clock Town still the most believable town/city in a video game yet?
>>

I wonder that Clock Town's key export is. What industry does it excel in?

Same reason that no video game has yet to compete with Super Mario 64 in the area of physics and control.

Or that Ocarina of Time is still the only video game where you can be two avatars of different weight and height in the same game and it still feels like you are playing the way the whole game was intended.

It's the magic of the N64 man.
>>
>>322536809
I love those games but come on you master baiter
>>
Because of the otherwise shitty 3-day time loop. Filling every character with a detailed day-to-day schedule makes them seem like they have normal lives, but in reality they only do the same things in a single three day period with only slight alterations based on your actions.
>>
>>322536968
>otherwise shitty

Yeah, nah.
>>
>>322536918
Name a video game with more control and better physics than Mario 64, or a game that has dual avatars more seamless than OoT.

I've been waiting since you responded.

MGSV

pretty much all RPGs and fighters you can have a character of any height/weight and it works as well as any other.

I spent like 5 minutes thinking about it.

The physics in mario weren't even proper earth physics. Shit had whacky moon gravity.
>>
>>322537802
Mario has an airsac in his abdomen that makes him have moon physics on earth
>>
>>322538003

Mario confirmed for a Carp

I agree with this Anon, if you can't actually give him better examples, you're a nigger.
>>
>>322536809
Not the guy you were talking to but Super Mario World. 2 avatars (big mario, little mario3 if you count mario on yoshi), different weight and height and the game feels the same but still slightly different.
>>
>>322536241
Because of the 3 day mechanic that allows specific things to happen at specific times within the time cycle

Why more games haven't expanded on that concept, I have no idea
>>
>>322536241
What's so special about it?
In a Zelda game, you're lucky if half the characters have homes. The towns are so tiny!

Clock town is cool but believable is a bit of a stretch

Any modern rockstar game does believably much better, but only because of the benefit of technology.
>>
>>322537802
I've not played a MGS game since I was 8 except the 3DS port demo, but no MGS game I've ever seen is as interactive as a Zelda game. So I'm going to have to call your bluff on this one, Jim.

And SMB? A 2D game doesn't cut either of those demands.

I wanted to live in Station Square when I was a kid, and just hang out by the hotel pool, listen to those endlessly-looping Jun Senoue riffs, staring at polygonal Dreamcast tiddies and contracting autism

3-day system + NPC behaviors + side quests

no game has done it better
>>

Mario galaxy had better physics even though they were simplified and so you couldn't pull off cool youtube trick videos

OoT dual avatars works well because adult link is also a manlet

Profits heavily off of the seasonal tourism business. It's basically Terminia's Cancun.

Best part of the game too

>Filling every character with a detailed day-to-day schedule
And it's only a couple of characters, at that. Most of them just hang out somewhere during the day, then go somewhere else during the night, rinse and repeat.

Characters like Anju who have actually fleshed out daily schedules that you can see walking around town are great, though.
>>
>>322547360
But they only have one inn with like 3 bedrooms.
>>
>>322547872
There are quite a few NPCs that actively move around rather than teleporting, but the amount of NPCs that are in different, logical places at different times is what makes the town feel alive. There are different people in the Mayor's office every day, there's not always the same innkeep at the inn, and even the Bar has different occupants.

Sad as fuck when on the last day the only one left in the bar is the depressed guy, resigned to his fate, although I forgot his name.

>MGSV

lol

MGSV has awful controls. You could have said any other numbered MGS and been closer to the mark.
