Take Sonic the Hedgehog.
Remove the original engine and replace it with a poorly made fan-game engine.
Except it's not a fan-game engine, it's a legitimate attempt by Sega to recreate the original engine.

says, it isn't even a port. It's their attempt to remake Sonic 1 from scratch on the Sonic Advance engine. The Sonic Advance engine was never prepared to handle sprites the size and number of what Sonic 1 has on screen at all times. It slows down everywhere, the physics are incredibly different from the original, usually for the worse (you can instant win Green Hill Act 3's boss by getting above Robotnik, for instance), the music is a bunch of awful MIDIs... it's just plain awful.
However, because it isn't a port, I nominate Saints Row 2's PC port.

Seriously? That's comedy gold right there. No wonder SEGA had a restructuring after 2006.

GBA Final Fantasy 4 added lag between attack choice and attack execution, which made it almost impossible to time your attacks, especially using Jump.

Why not just make Sonic Advance 4 instead? Have that be a remake of Sonic 1, and then go along with the other games if possible. Hell, you could have done that on the DS.
