That is what they are and always were
They were a little more subtle in the older games, but they decided to just throw that shit in your face like it wasn't obvious already.
i mean we always knew some were but... all?
and what's with that terrible writing? "IN FACT THEY ALL WERE!"
and what's with the lack of sublety? even in FO3 there are documents on the overseers computer about the experiments but it's only alluded to and it makes it much more creepy. putting it this bluntly is boring as fuck.
Probably the control group, so they can unfreeze them a few hundred years later and use it as a baseline to compare all the behavior/culture all the other vaults developed to "normal"
I don't think they were supposed to be frozen for long. When you wake up,
some raiders or someshit are in and steal your baby/kill wifeand the vault people are skeletons by now.
So it could have been the effects of multiple cryo freezes over several decades, long-term mental effects or how people react to a drastically different time.
>mfw only one ending
It literally says "almost every vault" not every single one. Out of about 122 vaults only 17 were normal, the rest were for experiments, that's almost every vault you morons.
>kill everything that moves
>"X is unconscious"
>"Y is unconscious"
>"Z is unconscious"
We can't let you do that, friend. There can't be any possible way for the player to fail.
That's completely retarded
>Nuclear apocalypse incoming
>I know let's start a retarded amount of social experiments with no real goal or purpose, no way to control the experiment or collect the date, or even use it if we could
all the vaults being experiments dates back to van buren. it would take hundreds of thousands of vaults to safely house the US population and vault tec was only contracted (by the enclave no less) to build ~122 vaults to conduct experiments for things like the effects of extended isolation. they also made a very convenient resource for humans to use fev on.
that irritates me. it was refreshing as fuck when i found this gem. the game lets you say fuck it and not even go on an adventure at all. the game just ends immediately and lets you know how boring the characters life was from then on even up to his death. and then in the first town you get to you can fucking marry your childhood friend the instant you meet her instead of recruiting her for your party and the game has a whole ending where you get married and have kids and die early leaving her to run the family business. game had like 50 endings. i miss games that had actual choice instead of "keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times"
>Loading screens are exactly like Skyrim's
It's actually fallout's canon story.
The experiments were made so one day they (wealthy people/enclave) could investigate the vaults, research them and then leave the planet so they could colonize another one.
I'm not shitting you.
Making a mod that automatically makes every character no longer essential is really, really easy to do.
You could also just use the console to do it manually but for immersion I'm gonna get a mod.
The vaults being experiments was established in Fallout 2.
Most people weren't expecting an actual nuclear war. They were scared of it like in the Cold War, but no one actually expected the apocalypse. Vault-tech didn't either, but the time was ripe to make some money and perform some social experiments. However, the Enclave and other deep government organizations were pulling the strings and supplying cash and land. The Enclave actually was prepared and expecting a nuclear war, and having those vaults under their control in secret would help with their future plans. For example, they had one vault to test their FEV virus because why not?
And of course, some Vaults were legit with GECKs to colonize the wasteland.
NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST SOCIAL EXPERIMENT PRANK 2015 GONE SEXUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL
it wouldn't have mattered anyway, vaults themselves were designed so poorly and just about all of them were utter failures as we see throughout the series, either through mechanical failure or the inhabitants going batshit and murdering each other. those that did survive just because isolationists that formed splinter communities that attacked anyone and anything that came near them.
damn it i've been wanting to play that for a while but it's been on the backburner with all the good 3ds games that have come out this year. still haven't finished half of my library. putting this one on my to play list.
The vault network only exists so that the enclave could gather data on how to recolonize the earth, or colonize another planet of this one was to fuck'd up. Every one could die in the vault network as long as the enclave got their data they didn't care what happened to them. Thus the fuck'd up social experiments, the enclave want'd to know what happens and how to deal with it.
Those weren't the vault breaking down, mechanically or socially. That was the experiment; How they would go, if they would break down in certain ways.
Also, I've heard a theory on /v/ that there nuclear was was kind of incidental, like, they went their full peel with these experiments, and figured they'd carry them out, but that the war wouldn't actually come. I don't think the theory is moored in canon, but it does explain that one tedious little aspect of the Experiment.
>anti bethesda fags so desperate they literally have to make shit up
this is what it looks like when someone is so autistic they act contrarian because it makes them feel good, something thing they dont get to experience much because they are literally autistic
This is absolutely correct though. Only 20 vaults were normal. And of those very, very few, who knows who all survived? Also if they did, they'd be more stocked with food and clean water/air. And likely hold way more people, all in government and the like.
>having to edit the game to roleplay
It is literally people that don't like Fallout and are tired of threads just shit posting about nothing. Which I find highly entertaining as I wait for the games in question. Then I play it for a while, and come back to more butt blast about bugs or what have you and read archived threads and roll around in all the seething hatred and laugh. Then shit gets patched and/or mods and I go back to enjoying the game. This is the cycle most people on /v/ follow, and have for the past ten years.
Nobody really though nuclear apocalypse was going to happen for real, most vaults that needed any interference were controlled by the vault overseer or were handled autonomously. The enclave had their own command vault that could monitor, control and collect data from the other vaults.
/v/ has disappointed me numerous times before, but not as much as in the present with the shameless and visceral attack on Fallout 4. Why on earth need a bunch of alienated, nihlistic young adults with social maladjustment spend their short, numbered days attacking a video game that fails to live up to their arbitrary standards? Good or not, the ideal game /v/ imagines is unattainable. These people spend their time bemoaning the lack of polish and features to a game that nonetheless be accepted and enjoyed by the vast majority, and push for features that will only be found in their imaginary ideal game. Most of the hairs split by these posters are indeed confined to the realm of fantasy. They see themselves as the arbiter of taste in the medium yet have no experience or qualifications in creating content to justify their insatiable thirst for perfection. Their very bodies tremble at the thought that normal people such as you or I may find fun in something they deem to be so disingenuous and flawed in its nature. What you or I see in good, valuable content to them appears twisted and distorted. Ultimately the posters who so viciously attack games made by passionate people in the industry are channeling their own frustrations at never being given the chance to create the game that lives up to their impossible standards. This, and this alone, is the true reason that /v/ has continued to be a source of insecure, disagreeable young 'gamers', a term I use loosely for these people, in their hatred, have lost the true spirit of what it means to be a gamer in the end....
>In New Vegas there were very few essential NPCs.
i liked this too. i liked being kos to the legion and having to actually be careful around innocent people lest they be caught in the cross fire when legion dudes came running over a hill to hunt me down.
It has an Oedipal twist. Near the end of the game you end up fucking some chick who claims to be in love with you, only to later find out she's actually your transgender missing son.
It's seriously the dumbest shit. But what did you expect from Bethshitsta?
>you end up fucking some chick who claims to be in love with you, only to later find out she's actually your transgender missing son
Why does that sound hot?
WHY IS THIS NEWS TO ANYONE EVER?!
NO SHIT they're gonna make some vault secret a bit of a big deal. That has ALWAYS been the purpose of the vaults. Only bad news here is we got our "purpose" (thought not entirely) spoiled. Any fucking moron who considers themselves a fan knows every vault already has an evil intention. In fact, cryo-freezing its members it about the best possible treatment a vault can get.
It's not a retcon at all, actually. It's just Bethesda trying to say "we care about the lore now guys" in the most ham-fisted way possible.
Yes, there is. I'm not going to find it because I'm too lazy, but EVERY vault had a secret purpose. I meant EVERY. Even the vault from the first Fallout had a water purifier designed to fail just so the inhabitants would go out and find a new one.
Fallout 2 wasn't a vault.
3, Vault 101 had a vault where the experiment was basically a utilitarianism kinda thing.
Just look up the others. They're way better than the shit you see.
>i.e.: 100 men to 1 woman
After the main quest is done, the loading text changes to:
"Those who reserved spots in Vault 111 had no idea they
would have their minds placed into synthetic bodies. In fact, almost every Vault was actually a secret social experiment conducted by Vault-Tec."
Did Skyrim have changing loading text like this?
You're a retard. Oh, and very, very wrong.
Vaults have ALWAYS been about experiments. Don't act like Fallout 4 was when Bethesda suddenly decided to care, that's been the case since FO3. They understood.
Kill urself, my man.
>Near the end of the game
She's literally in the first town you run into straight out of the vault (Lexington). She is the bartender at the Brown Bess and sleeping with her is optional. You just don't find out "she" is your son until the end of the game you scrub.
I will at least wait for the Holidays before to have the idea to buy it!
>populated by 20 men, 10 women, and one panther
After hearing this stupid shit, I don't even know who to trust anymore.
I'm honestly not even sure I'm being spoiled or if this is some bullshit trolling nonsense.
I'm not sure if I should be worried by this or not, but the shitposting has gotten so out of control that at this point, I don't even feel spoiled. I'll have a fun time with this god-awful-Bethesda-tier story I've always expected and nothing can ruin it for me at this point.
Thanks, shitposters. You've re-inspired my hope in the game that I have no doubt I'll have a decent time with. I'm kinda intrigued to see where it goes now that I've heard your stupid "theories".
And kill yourself if spoiling a game is the only thing that gets you off you worthless trash
Shitting on F4 has been some of the most fun I've had on /v/ in a while, it's the gift that keeps on giving.
Can't wait till release when anons will be uploading glitches, reused assets/animations, terrible models, horrible dialougue, nonsensical plot, lore breaking content, etc.
Can you feel it?
>Loading screens are exactly like Skyrim's
>You got a sidekick at the beginning of the game, just like in Skyrim
>Workshops work at the same way than Skyrim
I probably miss alot of things, but seriously, the game just fucking feel like Skyrim but with guns, not even joking!
>She's literally in the first town you run into straight out of the vault (Lexington).
Where the fuck are you getting this from? I heard she is only available to interact with after you dismantle The Institution.
I'm still getting it
BUT I PAYED NOTHING FOR IT!
You're not very good at reading, are you?
I never said that the Vaults weren't social experiments. Quite the opposite, in fact. Bethesda has shown in the past that they have a very tenuous grasp on the established Fallout universe.
So... I'M the retard cause Bethesda carried on the lore in a way totally acceptable and, for no reason whatsoever, you declare "hamfisted"?
Oh okay anon! You betcha!
You may actually be retarded, sorry if that "offends" you "people"
anon this guy>>315489246 is right, you flipped back on your own argument mid argument. first you said bethsda dont give a shit about there lore then you turn around and say"actually what i said was the do care"
You realize that if they didn't put that tip in there then there would be millions of dumbasses online that would be saying "LOL WHY ARE ALL VAULTS BROKEN?" That's why it's hamfisted. Bethesda picks and chooses elements of Fallout to "carry on" and doesn't give a flying fuck about anything else. At this point it's not even a Fallout game so much as it is another open world game with Fallout references.
Oh no, anon, unfortunately I've wasted hundreds of hours in that game so believe you me, I'll get to the nitty-gritty when it comes to FO3.
Are you one of those idiots who claim FO3 ruined everything because it had Super Mutants? From what I understand they were for the most part wiped out...
...but that WASN'T your point, was it pal? Your claim was Bethesda just now started caring about vault experiments... which is retarded and wrong. Bethesda didn't just "bring that along" to cater to fans, it's the way it has always been.
I'm not even sure I'm responding to the same autist here or not, but to claim Bethesda just decided to make it canon, or that it wasn't the plan all along, is plain wrong. It has been this way since FO1. Anyone who gave a single shit about the series AT ALL knew there'd be vault-fuckery in this game. It's no surprise to anyone who gave a single shit.
Not millions, horrid exaggeration. Some for sure. But really in the end all you're blaming is the idiots who decide to get involved in the sixth game of a series and out of no where think that one game should fill them in in all the loops. That shouldn't be on Bethesda... that's a fault of consumers they have to pander to to make money. Such is video games, not their fault.
>East Coast Super Mutants
>Moira instantly becomes a ghoul
>GECK is now a magic terraforming machine
Not to mention that, 200 years after the bombs fell, the people of the Capital Wasteland are still living in sheet metal huts. Recall that fully functioning city-states had reemerged in California within a century of the war, and civilization by the time Fallout 3 takes place. Also recall that California was hit a few hours before the East Coast.
i am going to post pictures
na different person, ok the vault stuff is canon and beth are fine for using it. It's everything else that shits on the lore
Why are the enclave there?
Why is everyone still living in a massive shithole, when the previous games had people rebuilding,Why are the brotherhood now white knights?
They should have reversed the roles and made lyon's bos outcasts. I could write a small book with how much is wrong with the story and lore of the game.
>>315489912 this guy get it.
When your character shoots himself at the end of the game in his head and you wake up realizing it was all a hallucination from the beginning of the bomb dropping. You'll realize how dumb this bethesda story writing actually is . . .
>tfw the brotherhood schism was one of the most interesting ideas and most realistic ones they had but they didn't make the game about that.
I would play the shit out of a game where the main focus is on conflict between nice Lyon's pride type BoS and regular ones and the way that conflict and the proxy battles (and actual battles) they fought over technology and strategic resources and populations to fight for them.
yeah there was some dialogue about the split which was something I guess. I really want them to go head to head as they are easily one of the most powerful groups in the wasteland.
Also just remember how they brought THE GREAT GRANDSON of the founding member of the bos to the east coast for some lols.
also east coast part is fucking wrong. the enclave only had military bases in their control. Everything was much smaller in fallout 3, the bos had like 3 streets under their control.
Actually that's not at all what I said at all.
In Fallout 3 Bethesda demonstrated a clear lack of understanding of the established Fallout lore. Going into Fallout 4, however, it looks as if they are trying to reverse that trend. Unfortunately, they see fit to do so inorganically in loading screen flavor text.
>why is the Enclave still there?
Is this a real question? Do you think an entire ideology is just immediately wiped out and has no chance of coming back?
Dude, anything can happen here. If anything, Fallout has always been proof that ideologies never die, they come back in reformed yet similar ways.
>Why is everyone living in a massive shithole
Uh, I don't remember ANYONE in FO1 or FO2 living in some magic paradise, pal. There was constant struggle. There's still tribal people for fuck's sake, horrible argument.
>Why are the Brotherhood white knights?
They're not, especially across FO3 and NV. They've clearly splintered and lost their original focus.
Well I guess when you get a huge company involved in a series they can't pander to every nit-picky autist like you and the guy you stupidly praise. Admittedly, I don't like them shortening a storyline, but I understand when it happens for the greater good of an entire game.
Oh, here you are again!
Again, you sound stupid. Way to go.
Are you legitimately retarded?
Did your mother drop you on your head as a child?
Strangled in the womb, perhaps?
If only somebody had finished the job.
I took the money I was going to use to buy it and instead I did literally anything else with it. Best decision of my life.
Jesus newfag, this was in Fallout 2 and every one since. Bathesda's fucking this game up but its not because of the lore, in 3 they were actually pretty respectful towards it compared to what 2 did to 1.
took her out to the first cabin where you get inducted into the dark brotherhood and slaughtered her. I did this for all the housecarls.
i didn't make the map, just posting them
>>315490309 pictures continued
you know, i told him before you have to lift up the ball sack before you tug on the foreskin when you wash the penis. but he lifted the ballsack last and a huge chunk of rotte cheese came flying out of there onto the ground. well his dog smelled that rotte cheese and started lapping it up. and that shit my friends is exactly what fallout 4 was made out of ,.
Most of the Enclave populous where killed off during the destruction of the oil rig and war with the NCR and Brotherhood. Leaving too little for them to even have a fighting force in the east. Plus there was actually some pretty damn well established places in FO1 and in FO2 it appears that most places got their settlements on the roll to what could be considered paradise. Mind you FO1 doesn't take too long after the war and it seems to be more constructed than the East Coast.
Not saying I liked FO3 but some of those are permissible.
The east coast may be shit because of the conditions the people live under while other plaves have access to more resources, technology and knowledge to rebuild.
The Brotherhood didnt suddenly turn to white knights. Originally a group was sent to the east. This is the group we see in FO3. They decided to start helping people, splinter off from the main group and abandon the ways of the codex. However they still deal with dangerous tech. Some members of said group disagreed and tried to get back to their original mission. Some people within the brotherhood just had different views is all. It would be boring if there were no smaller groups splintering off to pursue their own goals actually. The Eastern Brotherhood is one of the few things FO3 made enjoyable for me.
Hope you know all these streams and webms and shit are unpatched version of the game.
This is a sad world we live in where day one patch is a thing but it is.
I'm not saying its going to be immensely better, but shit like enemies spawning behind you and walking into walls will likely be fixed.
Graphics will remain shit tho.
But isn't that bot behind an impenetrable shield? You can kill Yes Man but he just builds another one. Aside from the children, there are no immortal people in NV.
I guess your companion counts if you're playing in easy mode too.
Sweet victory, anon! I lost! You proved it all!
Good god are you mad your autism can't defend itself, or what? You haven't said anything of substance, after all. You've confused me and my retarded brain yet again!
You mean as far as the west coast knows. This is an American almost entirely split in two, just because the west coast's Enclave suffered a horrid lost means almost knowing to the east coast. It isn't automatically lore-rape for Bethesda to decide the other side of the country, at this point an entirely different world, had a different interacting, now is it?
well they fucked up then because the east coast bos is cut off.
>immediately wiped out and has no chance of coming back
yes but why the fuck would the remainder of the enclave pack it up and then somehow move across the country unharmed because a computer ai told them too? You'd think they would stay in the east coast.
> tribal people
I assume we are talking about f3 still, because there was no tribal people at all. Also where are the farms? where are the supplies coming from? You can't just live off the ruins of a city for 200 years.
Also this. Why the fuck are there still children in a cave? Where did they come from, because unless they are peter pan beth fucked up hard on this.
The brotherhood you have to admit were 2d as fuck, they literally had a dj jerking their exploits off every 5 mins. Barring that I wish there was more depth with the outcasts. Fallout 3 was far too black and white. fnv kinda fixed this, but ran out of time with the legion
>blowing up a valuable source of income
This is why I made sure to keep my finger off the trigger when around traders because I need their sweet caps and tradeable goods. Killing them just puts me at an unnecessary loss.
Good point, but if my memories serve me correctly which I have my own bias over you don't come out through blunt trauma completely intact but most of that force were refugees from the West coast.
jesus christ i have no idea why it's taking so long to make a 2.99MB soundless file of something that's only 27seconds long.
>not playing around with the shitty pip boy app they just released
>like it wasn't obvious already.
Yeah, the president >>richard dickson outright telling you so in 2 was really obscuring the fact. I completely understand why they had to shove it in your face and go LOOK!LOOK!LOOK!LOOK!LOOK!LOOK!
Why are Bethesda such hacks?
>"The chinese have pulled out of Anchorage, and the volatile situation is now at a stand off"
What the fuck? Anchorage was years before the bombs fell, and America then invaded Mainland China, with the government there, on the brink of collapse/revolution, thats why they launched the Nukes
Can't they keep to the fucking lore
According to Fallout: Equestria social experiments were conducted to find the reason why humanity destroyed itself and prevent it from happening again.
Dobbs tuned to jelly because of the biomed gel, not because of the cryogenics.
People were cryogenically frozen in Zeta and came back alright so if you want to get mad at anything, that's the place to start.
For an experiment to be successful you need to have control examples as well.
The few vaults that were not insane experiments were control example vaults to compare data obtained against.
>enclave pack it up
No no no, what I was saying was that it's entirely possible, as far as FO1 and FO2 wanderers know, that there is a stronger east coast Enclave. The west coast could have been an exploration branch. Makes sense after all, spreading from D.C.? I'm simply saying don't call Bethesda lore-rapists for saying that the entirely unmentioned east coast has its own story.
>I'm assuming we are talking about f3 still
No I was directly mentioning FO2, actually, and its beginning.
>children in a cave
Oh come on. There's ALWAYS been explainable shit in the series. They clearly went for some kind of Lord of the Flies type of society, can't blame them for taking an already classic pop culture idea and making it even worse with radiation and mutants.
In FO3, yes, it was annoying they didn't give the player any real reason to disagree with the Brotherhood. That's just poor writing on their part. I agree FO3 made them a bit too black and white, but FO4 is a new part of the world. Still east coast (PROBLEM) but I really hope they're more out of the picture honestly.
I don't remember the east coast Enclave ever saying they're survivors of the west coast but I could be wrong. If you're right, then yes, "Fuck Bethesda" for trying to keep a very dominate and already established force in the game. Oh well, if only I was shilling I'd let them know.
No clue and you're an actual homosexual (you know who you are)
No everyone's fucked up. Ignore idiots sitting on their made-up high horse.
Do you think there were any vaults that celebrated No Clothes Family Day? I think it would've been that vault near Venice Beach.
SHITPOSTING 2015 FEEDING THE HOMELESS GONE SEXUAL GONE WRONG KISSING PRANKS AND SEX PRANKS 2015 VENICE BEACH (STARRING VITYLIZEDTV 2015 SEXUAL)
well I think the story has some serious problems that are just bad writing. If beth got some not braindead writers they could do so much better. I enjoyed fallout 3, but looking back on it the story really takes a backseat.
No hey champ, you're not gay. That was my bad. Your standards are on fleek, senpai.
Let me know when you stop jerking off on your figurines and when a someone with no Y chromosome other than your mom compliments that neckbeard, aight champ?
God I hope I'm being trolled.
No major argument here, I don't think was some kind of golden god of writing, I just think anyone who immediately claims its small reasonable stretches in the existing lore, lore that needed updating for a new game, was immediately "rape" and everything it said was "non-canon shit", is a moron.
I agree. FO3 was no masterpiece. I mean someone summed it up nicely in a short greentext and made it sound awful. NV at least went for the more typical FO story and that was fine.
I don't expect any gold from Bethesda, honestly. Not in the main story anyways. I just want some nice side stories and a depthy world. They've been good at that for a while.
The story of fallout 4
People were kept in cyro sleep as perfect samples while being cloned to test how would each generation react given similar circumstances. The raiders stole your son as you were put back into cyro after being cloned. Turns out the son that was stolen was a clone. Your son later escapes the raiders and leads the slaves in a rebellion. You spend most of the game searching for him. When you finally do, you realise he is dying due to a disease that affects clones and the only way to survive is to give him your perfect dna or some shit but that would mean you would die. So there are two ending, you kill your son or you sacrifice yourself to save your son.
Anon, I'm not sure what happened here. Do you think you've won or something? Have I lost for having realistic, non-virgin expectations?
Please let me know how I'm pathetic, I'm so curious. Your mindset fascinates me.
HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE NEWSPAPER.
Come at me you plebian. I am the fucking pinnacle of man, both body and mind. I attend an Ivy league university, completely payed off by scholarships, with the leftover money used to buy myself a luxury vehicle. My grade point average is perfect point O. After I finish my dual bachelors I will be accepted straight away into the doctorate program. I will have two doctorate degree's by age twenty-five, owe zero debts, and make more money a year than you will in a lifetime. The funny thing is, this is the average Fallout 4 player. There are many who far surpass me.
>there's no opportunity for splits of government when the world ends
>there's no way that once the president died/lost communication with the rest of the Enclave, anyone did anything
amazing or not, it's totally a
day 1 pirate
This is what bothers me. People are so hyped up that they'll believe the game to be of utmost quality and not realising any flaws in it. Same with Skyrim, this game will receive multiple GOTY and GOTD and GOTC awards even though it's just a reskinned Skyrim and draugr caves are replaced with feral ghoul / super mutant caves.
I've been the shithead here defending Bethesda's "mistakes" and you better believe I'm still pirating it.
I'm not putting my money where my mouth is, just tying to have some sensibility where everyone rushes to judge. Still gonna be torrenting this game and getting my roommate, who has the internet under his name, in trouble.
i'll beta test it for free too anon
and in a few years when they are done milking this gen of gamers teet dry via season pass, exclusive content, paid mods...whatever else they can do to get in you coin purse
i'll buy it for a twenty spot.
Posting lewds cause hopefully FOR FREEs are asleep
Then it wasn't a very good control group. If it's a social experiment to see how groups of people adapt to certain situations, then the control group would have to be a group that didn't do any adapting, i.e. wasn't subjected to life in a vault at all.
>you need to have an isolated environment to carry out a scientific experiment. vaults are an ideal control group
You mean, vaults are the ideal environments in which to carry out a scientific experiment. The point of vaults was to allow people to continue living isolated from everything else and see how they change over time isolated from the rest of the world. A control group doesn't take part in the experiment. You just have them sit there and be normal, and freezing them is the best way to force them to sit there and be normal. When it's time to check the results of the experiment you just unfreeze them and compare all the other vaults to the previously frozen people.
It's an easy answer, really. Clever brand management, mass marketing and good PR.
Same thing happens with Apple. Their products are completly locked down, and they force you to use their other products (since other brands are not compatible with Apple). Customers grow accostumed to it and develop a Stockholm's syndrome. How else would you explain blowing your shitty wage for a fucking phone that will be obsolete in a year ?
Now take Bethesda. Marketers are in full force, diffusing differents messages (mostly focused on "exclusive technology" "improved graphics"(kek) "compelling story") while relying on their previous success, giving them credit to the suckers that will buy their shit.
That's why they consider it quality, and it ain't gonna change now.
Source on all this : I majored in PR and am a brand manager.
I know people who feel "locked" into apple shit and feel helpless. they feel they can't leave because they are so integrated into it.
this is with the idevices and cloud storage.
the way some of them talk, it's as if they are addicted.
>the vaults didn't change
You're right, an entire town full of people named Gary was totally normal before the bombs fell. It's completely normal for a town to play white noise with subliminal messages everywhere just to see what happens, or a town intentionally inhabited by one single person with no outside contact.
Totally normal. The people in the vaults are exactly like they were when they entered them.
That's exactly the strategy of Apple. Getting them addicted. They don't care how they feel, they care about sales.
But trust me, if they don't change that very soon (within 5 years), their brand WILL suffer. You can already see that Apple is now only carried forward by the sale of iPhones, iMacs and iPads sales are really strating to struggle. And they don't even want to take about the iWatch (that shit was a fucking blunder).
it's fucking awful. I've tried and tried to help some of these people and they look at me like they desperately need that help to break away
-they just won't
I, myself have given up because until some major failing, it isn't going away.
the most common thing I hear is
>I like my apps, what about those
>but what about my cloud storage
in the end, I think it's just a fear of change for the potential new user to a new device.
i've exhausted all I could to try and help with no success.
Well guess I know who I'm gonna roleplay on my second playthrough
>fallout 4 just came out
>super hype to play it and have been waiting for it for years
>preloading it never happened but that's okay maybe they just messed up
>2 minutes till launch
>still super hype to download it and play it
>it finally launches and i download it
>steam servers are shit like usual and takes 5 hours
>"WHO FUCKING CARES THOUGH FINALLY MORE FALLOUT!!!"
>triple click launch game because im so goddamn excited
>splash screen pops up (i can feel my heart racing with excitement)
>50,000,000 lines of dialogue per character, 1 billion different base guns, "you can climb that mountain"
>"WOWIE that was pretty quick!"
>finally after years of waiting and spending all of my money i've saved up i can finally be happy again and play my favorite game series!
>"Additional game is required to play this mod!"
>redirects me to skyrim store page
i was damn close too with that gmg discount, but fuck it i still have to beat divinity and isaac
The sad thing is that I can't tell if this is a lie or not, things have become that fucked.
no, it wasn't very good
realize these were people that built vaults to protect and study other people, and nearly every single scientist died with no point to their studies, while MANY MANY other vaults survived
hell, even ones that are fucked up in several of the games still "survive" in spirit, the khans being one example
They're going to put a voiced protagonist in TES next aren't they?
I always loved Bethesda games even though they were flawed, but now I don't know, they're trying too hard to be like other RPGs and losing what was unique about Bethesda RPGs
note that the sense that they were "all" experiments is the nature of the test itself
every vault by itself cannot be a control, because being in a vault isn't their human nature
they were a. crazy fuckign scientists and b. testing small groups, not actually doing much real science
while they were "all" experiments, and some were zany as fuck (even the penny arcade ones were made canon) some tests included
various "control" vaults that were normal, had enough supplies, and just opened after a set number of years
a vault that was just open all the fucking time, it had enough supplies, but the door never closed
a vault where the only food was gruel
a vault where all the light bulbs were at or lower than 40 watt
not to mention the retarded man and woman vaults 68 and 69
>only to later find out she's actually your transgender missing son.
>tfw we live in the world where this shit looks legit
>Just saw this on facebook
>people think this
I'm legit insulted by the audacity of this claim. But it's FB/tumblr so I should not be surprised.
They could've at least tweaked the sprint a little bu, you know, to not give away it is exactly like Skyrim's. Even the panting noises are the same.
Dunno, looks sorta accurate to me.
>Promises a whole lot but after the first bite starts to taste stale, probably will just make you sick.
>Looks like garbage, some people will say that there's nothing wrong with it and that it looks quite good if you squint hard enough.
you idiots will all still buy it when it releases and all the 9-10's flood in lmao
What a silly way to inform players of interesting world knowledge. I hope Bethesda doesn't take this too far. I would hate to see important insights into the setting be turned into vapid fun-facts.
Imagine if they pulled this with earlier Fallouts
>Be just starting out in Fallout 2
>Complete tutorial temple
>Finish up business in starting home village
>Read loading screen
>"The people of Arroyo had no idea their captors, the Enclave, are testing them for the purpose of eradicating all life in the wasteland."
>Copy-pasted filling to give the illusion of content
>Looks like something found in a public toilet
Seems pretty accurate to me.
>all the vaults where social experiments
YEAH NO FUCKING SHIT
Why don't you fucking spoonfeed the 12 year olds the lore you fucking retards instead of having it evident in the plot.
Not a bethshill or anything but its technically true. Skyrim only ever came out with like two expansion pack dlcs that were non-essential to the main story. Fallout 4 may or may not be the same.
101 wasnt a control, it was to test totally autocracy's effect on a standard vault, the population also wasn't high enough to sustain a population, so they wondered how they would deal with the dwindling population, they chose to let in wastelanders
>roommate bought it for me for my birthday
I'm not sure if I want it or not but I don't have the heart to tell him I'm kinda not interested, guy fucking loves fallout 3
I'm just gonna let him ride the wave, if he enjoys it then it's all good, I won't shit on his parade.
its accurate, Fallout 4 is a bloated mess that misses the good things form previous games in exchange for adding as much that the Lowest Common Dominator loves and thinks is great
I even got in our favorite magazine.
>Even -Considering- MS Zeta canon.
can someone give me the sad panda link to this? it would be much appreciated. here is a 3DS qr loli in return.
>I-if you don't buy Fallout 4 you're a fedora tipping autist
Fuck off Todd.
>and what's with the lack of sublety? even in FO3 there are documents on the overseers computer about the experiments but it's only alluded to and it makes it much more creepy. putting it this bluntly is boring as fuck.
Normies don't like to think, they just want 5000 identical looking caves to 'explore'.
