That game was as buggy as your usual GameFreak game. You can warp your character to the other side of the screen just by pressing a few buttons quickly, the game will slow down tremendously if you shoot your projectile (so this...is the power...of blast processing...whoa), and the collision detection is spotty at best. You can abuse these glitches and play the game in a way it was never meant to be played.

Every single western developer in the world, they all make games full of dumb bugs, random crashing and framerate issues.

Japanese developers care way way more about technical quality. A game like asscreed unity where people randomly lose their faces would never, ever happen in a japanese game. If there are bugs they tend to be beneficial or just wierd instead of something that makes the game fuck up.

Once again I am only talking about how well the game runs and how bug free it is, and nothing of the games actual quality.

Pokemon Red/Blue had massive amounts of bugs. Perhaps you've heard of the most obscure one of all, MissingNo.? One has to be a hardcore gamer to know that derelict piece of hard-to-reach information

Beyond that, they were incompetent by providing only the bare minimum of what was necessary to milk the series into the future. Instead of shitting out a trunk full of mediocre pokemon (padding it up to what, 650 by now?) they could have pursued 3D much earlier by sticking to the original 150. By creeping all the way to 650 they've undermined one of the core concepts Tajiri set forth so long ago: in order to catch 'em all, you need to trade with a friend and cooperate. But now? There's goddamn 650 of them, and you they don't even all come in the same game. All one needs to do is transfer between save files (PokePark, or whatever it was called) and you can be a solo autist.

So yeah, they're incompetent by undermining the core design of the series. If they were competent they would have realized quality!=quantity and

>prevent pokemon transfer between generations

Their most recent game (Sonic Lost World) had some design issues, but had zero technical issues. Same with Generations, Colors and Unleashed. All had high framerates, low load times, great graphics and zero technical issues or bugs. Design-wise, well... Generations was mostly solid.

They're pretty "style over substance". I feel like they have an insane talent for cool cutscenes, chracter design, music and most "artistic" stuff like that. The gameplay just falls so incredibly short in their games.

I still like them, wish they weren't stuck on license cash-grabs.

That's what is preventing them from getting better, m80. There's no incentive to improve.

It's basically the same situation at Square Enix with their designers. Nearly everyone of note has jumped ship -- Tanaka, Sakaguchi, Uematsu (not design), Matsuno, etc. Itou is relegated to some shitty phone game, presumably because FFXIV 1.0 bombed (thanks to its engine).

All that's left at Square Enix are hacks like Toriyama and Nomura. Somehow, though, they're still solvent.

I'd argue the people at Games Freak are quite competent. Regardless if you like the Pokemon games they are extremely lucrative. Games still sell like hotcakes as well so they seem to be delivering products people want.

Personally I dont like Gen 4-6 but i know the problem is me and nostalgia not the developers seeing as all the recent games are well received and fans love them.

the fact that the games are creative black holes has nothing to do with if the game runs well/is technically well made. red/blue are the only real exception and even then most of the glitches either require that you do stuff most people wont think of or straight up require cheat codes like wall walking, and this is on a game that's running on 7 year old hardware that was comparable to the NES.

They're a bit weak at FPS and actually using the 3D on the 3DS (seriously, Nintendo counts on Pokemon to sell the fucking system, and less than half the game uses the gimmick). I can't think of any notable bugs since Gen 1 and 2, so they don't seem bad on that front.

Design wise, they can fuck themselves. Pokemon has the worst rng trolling ever.
