Not more loot, better drop rates. And it's been true for most of Monster Hunter history that capping gives better loot on average, and is faster.

Only in MH4U (in the West) has this trend been broken, where it's often a better choice to kill for plates / gems / palliums / rare item du jour, rather than capture.

I've played so far (only) a few hundred hours of MH. Only grinding I've needed is fight the same monsters twice of thrice for the gear, then spend 50+ hours just hunting for the joy of hunt.

This was true when I played MH3. I had no idea what I was doing and spent and wasted a colossal amount of time. I enjoyed myself a lot but I spent so much time without really progressing. I got to some like HR4 and stopped playing.

It's completely different with 4. Now that I have a running start I'm progressing well and really enjoying myself. I think it's taken me about a third of the time to get to where I was in 3.

I don't think stopping before G Rank is a big deal anyway. To get to that point the player would have probably put a good few hours in to the game already. Even just doing all of the village quests in 3 would give the average player their money's worth.

Where do I find Pelicoes with the Healing forte? I'm having a hard time understanding if it's my bad luck vs RNG or if certain skills only show up on certain field maps. If you set up Palicoes with the same skills in the 1st stinger then your main palico will get new skills, much like how armor skills work. The more palicoes you have as 1st stingers with the same skill (fighting, healing, whatever) the better your main palico becomes at that skill.

No, this has been different since Tri at least, and it was still there for 3U. Getting Claws from agnaktor has always been better to carve. Some things can only be gotten from Gigginox if you carve or break parts, not capture.

There are plenty of things that capturing never influences. For gems and plates yeah it will often be the better method, but there are plenty of rare materials since Tri that aren't just gems and plates.

I enjoy the game fully even without other humans. I view going online as being a co-operative helping-eachother initiative as we all sign up for the same goals and then help each other achieve them faster.

Basically I only ever go online if it's to grind something, and since I expect to eventually forge every single armour and weapon, I never have a problem playing multiplayer with anyone on any quest.

But I will always do those quests at least twice solo before doing so. A single cart in either of those two hunts and I tack on another two hunts until I can do it without carting ever.

I havent had very bad experiences.

Aside from one guy who fucked up every mount he did. We did like 3 hunts together and he's fail the mini game every time he'd try it. The mini game isn't even hard. I fuck it up sometimes due to stamina but unless you have a broken R there's no reason to fail.

I only played Tri and I beat the big Lag monster thing but stopped playing after because it was taking me 40 minutes to kill the big bad boss monsters, and I needed to kill them 3+ times to get items to upgrade my gear, and if I didn't then I couldn't beat the next tier of monsters in time. I would rarely ever die while playing but killing them just took forever with my weapons (used the switch axe mostly). Just to kill the Lag thing I had to kill the mud dinosaur something like seven times because I couldn't get a specific item to drop when I was carving it up. I had a lot of fun playing it and I'm not saying it's a bad game but I couldn't keep playing when progression relied entirely on spending so much time doing things I'd already done. I guess the answer was to git gud and kill stuff faster.

Just make the ravager blade(+). You won't be upgrading it past low rank, but it's a great low rank weapon owing to its huge bar of green sharpness and solid damage. Also it takes ore to make rather than monster materials.

I use a Longsword or Lance. Both are comparable to the slower weapons in Souls or DD. In general the game's pace was rather slow though. Monsters telegraphed their moves for way too long, the actual challenge was getting out of the massive hitboxes in time. Roll recovery also takes way too long for me and I find it comparable to the slowest rolls in Souls games, but it might just be because I'm used to and prefer faster rolls in other games.

Most people in Japan prefer to play on Handhelds. Literally the reason it isn't on a console is because the Japanese simply don't buy it as much on consoles, which means that doing so would fuck over their profit real bad.

Due to the sheer number of people commuting and how long they spend doing it, it's the perfect game to take on the go since you're likely to find plenty of people playing it on the bus or train. It's also great for work breaks.

Also the Japanese prefer to play together in person instead of over the internet, and handheld gameplay supports that.

Its a console type of genre and PCs simply dont have that.

And while I dont recommend 3rd too much its still worth a try if you think that FU is too rough. 3rd being a game in the third generation is a lot more polished and some of the problems people had in FU arent in it anymore.
So if you face some bullshit in FU and think of dropping the series, give the other one a go to see if you like the more recent changes.

FU is still really good though as it has tons of unique monsters and areas that arent in the third gen games.

Stupid question: what ways can you heal? I know of herbs, potions, and mega potions, but I'm using a set that lowers healing item effectiveness and was wondering what items I can bring to make up for that. Best I can think is potions and mega, along with blue shrooms, herbs, and honey to make more. There's no other items that recover lost health (Jerkey just refills red recoverable damage).

Using Switchaxe, so debating switching out the psychic stuff to buff the set's skills (evasion or dragon attack), or to try earn a new skull instead but dunno what would be good, since I main GL with SA being a secondary.
