Is there a video game out there that deconstructs a genre in a revolutionary way, like Madoka did?

I don't think there is an example in video games. Madoka was created specifically to validate Magical Girl's after shows like Pretty Cure and Sailor Moon and there copycats turned it into a joke. Video games doesn't have an example because none of the genre's have gotten to that point yet.

Madoka is a shit anime and doesn't deconstruct anything. Torturing lolis does not revolutionary anime make
Meguka is so bland, why do people even like it?
That Calumon ass nigga has a good design though
Madoka might be okay if its fanbase wasn't star-citizen tier.

If you look at it like that, then "Disgaea: Hour of Darkness" is an example. I remember nobody wanting to touch Tactical RPGs after Ogre Tactics happened. Several years later, out pops Disgaea and what do you know, the genre became not dead again.

What's the Samurai Champloo of videogames? Stylistic heavily trope game that manages to have proper narrative elements and subtlety behind the veneer of generic action?
MGR:R almost got there but was way too short for them to develop the characters.

Max Payne
>>284261519
Good answer, but Max Payne is way too dark and heavy to be compared to Samurai Champloo. SC really walks the razor's edge between being depressing and uplifting, Payne is clearly on the depressing side.

Sleeping dogs?

Haven't played SD. I just thought of Saint's Row 2's more serious parts, they almost fit Samurai Champloo's style. If Sleeping Dogs is sort of like that but with more action then that sounds like a good fit.
