The real problem I have with the site is that it's basically all fan-created content and they uphold "we're not wikipedia so we don't actually need to provide any sort of evidence that we aren't lying through our teeth" as something good about their site. GameFAQs is still sort of this. You have to view someone's profile to see their "veterancy" and there's no fluff, just text, so discussion is usually good and on topic.

The userbase is also a lot older than /v/'s and it's overall plain better.

I still prefer /v/ to GameFAQs because of pictures and looser moderation, but both are good.

The articles themselves are pretty neat and a mildly entertaining way to keep yourself occupied for a while, though I've never unironically used their lingo outside of /v/, and I mainly visit them for their Fan Fic Recommendations. That's about the most help that I've ever gotten out of them.
