NEW TERRARIA GAME
WHAT THE FUCK
IS THIS A SEQUEL OR A PREQUEL OR WHAT?
Terraria devs are usually based, remember they've been updating the original game for years for free while they could have jewed us all they wanted
But yeah I don't understand why they didn't put all development time in the sequel or the original
main character looks disgusting
look at the ground under the candelabra, what the fuck is with that worldgen
I don't know what the fuck they were thinking
honestly I prefer 2.5D to this, or the original style even
Personally I liked the outlined on the characters and environments, the lighting engine is pretty damn god and the visuals are nice, but the character art is the obvious weak link.
The HUD design leaves a lot to be desired.
>>283544754 I've got almost 200 hours in terraria and every similar game i have played since has been a disappointment. If this game gets a real release and not early access bullshit I will buy it.
I hope they learned some things from what other games did right though, it would be nice to be able to swim without some bullshit item.
I like the art here too, there is a noticeable improvement without losing the feel of the original game.
>post yfw Red is going to make an even better Starbound before chucklefish even completes theirs
A-anon, I dont know what to tell you...
better than starbound and that is all that matters to me. Starbound is right at the unacceptable mark for me.
The most important thing is that they have some competent people who already know how to make a good game. I am confident this will at least be 3 times better and have at least 3 times the content as starbound at some point which will be far too hilarious to be contained in a single thread.
To be honest, it looks kinda shitty. The artstyle of that golem thing looks nice, but the main character (both art and animation) looks weird compared to everything else.
I hope they release some sort of mod support.
Still shit and worse in some ways.
Some people can't even fucking play it anymore because an area you are REQUIRED to visit to even start exploring space makes the frame rate plummet.
>to restore a once-pristine world – now overrun by a malevolent force that has corrupted nature itself
WHY DIDNT THEY LEARN
NO ONE LIKED CORRUPTION
unfinished shit heap of promises. Do not buy it even if its on sale. Maybe if its 2$ so you can see how shit it is but nothing higher
or pirate it.Starbound is just one dev thinking he could do terraria better and failing miserably in so many ways. Now that they've taken too long terraria 2 will probably shit on it so hard in time. Terraria 1 is still better aesthetically with better mechanics. Its kind of sad really.
crimson was fuckin shit bruh
corruption was my jam
spiders in games need to fucking stop smh
>new le pixel art is better than old le pixel art
Both are pixel art, mate. The problem with T:O is that unlike original game, its styles clash with each other too much. Almost as bad as in Starbound.
What the hell is that blue line, that's distorting everything around it?
where did you guys get the idea that it would be anything but 2D?
3d or 2.5 would be much harder to do and need more manpower. I'd rather them just make a good 2d game instead of an unfinished mess of a 3d game in 5 years.
It doesn't look half bad honestly but I'm gonna miss the old art style. This screams Starbound, which really doesn't give me good memories. I pray to God the combat system isn't like Starbound. That was the real nail in the coffin for me.
Because it's worse than Terraria in almost every single way. Art styles clash with each other. Bosses in dungeons are glitchy and once you die, you need to run through whole cleared dungeon again. Building lacks soul and purpose. Biomes are just reskins. World gen is boring. Underground loot is barely any better than surface loot. Etc.
Notice how it seems to make a spherical shape that continued through the ground.
Looks like that's your cleansor, and it's probably your goal to use that contraption on the right of the screen to cleanse the map.
They should have just kept fucking adding onto the original Terraria, there's absolutely no reason to make a sequel to a sandbox game. I probably won't play it, but
>mfw this is going to blow starbound completely out of the fucking water
Looking good except the characters. That will change.
I don't know, a lot of those points were opinions. I guess it's just preference, then? I can understand that. Personally, every time I play Terraria I get bored of the atmosphere. I also don't like the art style or animations. The combat doesn't satisfy me, either. I also like exploring, which I feel like Starbound does better. The customization is neat as well.
>tfw never could get into Terraria even though I liked the concept of it and the graphics too
I mostly mistook this for Terraria 2, just found out they said this is just an extra side project.
>it was made for the sole purpose of killing starbound
I thought it wasn't my thing either but I wound up really liking it. Just keep trying to look around and find new stuff.
I also didn't play it for the longest time because I thought night was too hard, too long, and unfair, but
I was just confusing the Corruption biome for nighttime. since it was right next to my starting place.
>mineraft did building better
>only 5 wood types
>all look the same, just recolored
Jokes are supposed to be funny.
>do the Terraria devs actually have something against Chucklefish?
Relogic actually works with them on some stuff. You'll see their logo on some of the games alongside Chucklefish.
looks like starbound had a spike recently, probably because of an update
it has already dropped below terraria again though
>that spike in Terraria right after Starbound dip
I'm okay with everything here except the character sprite. The character sprite looks terrible, even Starbound had better looking Sprites and I fucking hate everything that's happened with Starbound.
This is a shit logo and it's giggle is annoying.
Tiy used to work for Red. Tiy ran off to create Starbound. Scuttlebutt is some of Starbound was Red's ideas and Tiy stole those ideas and fucked off to make his own game.
Red's wife fucking hate's Tiy and Chucklefish.
No. You must be confused. Relogic and Chucklefish companies have never worked together.
Landmark does building the best but it lacks content.
Curious to see why this is a whole new Terraria game instead of an update to the original game.
>Red will have two whole games and a large patch minimum for Terraria before Starbound gets jack shit
1.3 isn't coming out and you gotta buy this game
>Trusting terraria developers after they released an early-access half assed abandonware
I don't see any screenshots of MC, anon.
>3D construction will always be better than 2D
Definitely. But not Minecraft. If you want good 3D building, look >>283552705
Building in Minecraft is as shallow as its gameplay. It's like LEGO for kids younger than 3, just a bunch of huge blocks for basic creativity.
if you mean starbound that was made by the original artist who left way before starting starbound
Where the fuck did I even mention Starbound, retards? I was talking about terraria itself.
>early-access half assed abandonware
>m-mods will save it
Uh-huh. You can indeed polish the turd, but it will remain a turd.
Mods are for adding a last layer of polish on a good product. Bad modded game will always remain bad, and no amount of mods will ever make any aspect of Minecraft decent.
>Starbound 2 when Starbound isn't even finished
Oy fucking vey.
No shame at all.
I don't like the way characters swing their fuckings arms around when they run, also that they're holding weapons. It seems cluttered.
I'll probably just try the "leak" like I did with the original. In case anyone doesn't remember, a few weeks before terraria's release, red & blue decided to "leak" the game on /v/. And then everyone pointed and laughed at it because it stole FFV sprites.
They're pretty different now -- a year ago, they were a lot more similar but Starbound's updates over the past year finally making it to the not-broken version make them a lot different.
Outside of the few bosses, Terraria mostly has dozens of samey (function wise) enemies that just move towards you to bump into you and do damage (and they can all be narrowed down into walking types, worm types or floating types, a couple spit projectiles at you, like the Harpies), or ones that stand in place and fire projectiles at you.
Starbound originally just had nothing but walking creatures that ran into you (sometimes they spit a projectile at you), flying creatures that dived into you, and humanoid NPCs that just fired at you endlessly or bumped into you with a melee weapon.
Now they no longer do damage just by bumping into you; creatures have 2-to-4 moves from a long list like they're Pokeymans or some equivalent. Humanoids are now somewhat competent at navigating the environment and some will switch between melee and guns.
Honestly, I'm coming to enjoy Starbound's combat more now. Terraria still has the advantage of a bunch of cool weapons and unique magic items whereas Starbound is mostly linear projectiles and a simple melee swing, but Starbound's creatures are a lot more interesting to fight skillwise.
>playing 8bit Minecraft
Your taste continues to disappoint me, /v/.
>People defending Minecraft
>People defending Starbound
>People shitting on Terraria
I can only hope its all just ironic.
This place really has turned into a contrarion's paradise.
>people don't like what I like
Yeah I'm just gonna save the couple of you the trouble and post that so you don't have to.
Here comes the wave of ironic shitposting, thread was good while it lasted
I still don't understand ;_;
Isn't this exactly what anon was talking about? 3d-looks to a flat surface?
>mfw even Starbound got more content and rights to exist than Minecraft
The little blurb on the website mentions that the world will start off corrupted and your goal will be to cleanse it, for one thing, and I'm sure that's not the only change they had in mind
i don't give a fuck, terraria otherworld will need like 5+ years to be complete, i'll play it then.
1.3 when though?
You haven't seen it have you
Minecraft literally has the biggest modding scene ever in a video game
There is a mod for almost everything
People have made jobs doing these mods
Modpacks have founded companies on them
>He quit working on Terraria to work on Terraria
It's called the "lunar update" and it has the "lunar boss " in it, what else are we going to fight.
That's usually just referred to as "bump" mapping. Cuz it makes bumps. Real technical, I know. also you spelled "parralex" wrong in the original post that's probably what they're upset about
Wrong. my dad is red and he says it's a werewolf boss.
Really though that's what he's been saying on the larger servers and on the forums. More than likely an expansion based on the werewolves and maybe mermen too.
This probably looks better in motion.
They better not fuck this up. I really liked Terraria.
Remember when everyone said Terraria looked like shit and would be a shittier combat-oriented minecraft when the trailer came out? I was one of them, but I really came to like it. The new artstyle reminds me of the n64 sprite-based games, I think if they take some feedback and make things more consistent it could be really memorable.
Starbound is bad and you shouldn't buy it, but it's not awful if you prefer building and modding to gameplay
So THIS is what Re-Logic has been doing ever since they said they were making Terraria 2
Looks like Terraria with a bunch of random grafixal improvements
if it involves traveling through space it's probably already better than that cashgrab Terraria clone. The PREMISE of Starbound was solid, but the dev was just interested in doing an Early Access cashgrab scam instead of living up to that premise.
how to make space-terraria
>take the core mechanics of terraria
>now make it so planets have different gravity levels
>planets have different enemy types
>harsh planets require specialized survival gear
THERE, YOU'RE DONE. Maybe you just Beam Me Up, Scotty to your spaceship and you build your unique Spaceship up in a Star Port location which is just sort of flavorful NPCs consisting of Guide, merchants and questors and maybe designed as a multiplayer meeting ground hub? Whatever it'll work out.
THERE IS ACTUALLY LORE FOR TERRARIA 1
think abuut eet
>you get more stronger as the game goes along
>you release more dangerous monsters as well and make the world impossible to live in for a normal human bean
>this game is the opposite where you want to restore the peaceful (according to the announcement post on terraria forums) world and is the alternative dimension that you made hard
will it all tie up?
because this isn't Terraria 2. This is just a side game.
Terraria 2 will be like the first but vastly improved. The only thing to take away from this trailer towards T2 would be the graphics.
Yes it is. It's worse than minecraft for doing shit, which is worse than terraria.
I'm still mad at red for conveniently dropping support for terraria when starbound was announced, then picking it back up after he noticed starbound owuld flop.
>sequel/side-thing to Terraria
>and they're still adding on to Terraria
Fuck I need to get back into Terraria, this is glorious. Haven't played since last year's halloween update and they're still adding.
There is literally no reason to stop beating the dead horse that is starbound. It deserves so much of it. Its almost as if its a peter molyneux game. The fans are just as delusional too. Starbound is a joke now and a tragedy after terraria 2 surpasses it in content, mechanics, combat and style.
Game's probably going to be fun but I can't get over how shitty it looks graphically
I mean the background stuff is okay but the character and enemy sprites are so bad holy shit
Hopefully that's because it's so early in development
TELL YOUR FACE TO PACK ITS BAGS
>We will have Terraria spin-off storymode game and Terraria2 before Chucklefuck and Liy even implement actual content for their underground biomes
>mfw 4 years worth of great game, including mostly steady content and updates for $2.50
Probably they'll change or improve.
Graphics tend to be one of the easiest things to replace in game development but also one of the last parts of a game to be finished. These could just be place holders for all we know.
