You have no excuse
Just pirate it. Don't give Gabe money.
And if you do play it don't use the pistol and assault rifle you fucking faggots
I was about to make a thread kinda like yours OP, so to avoid another fucking useless thread:
Are there any other games from this company sale worth it, besides System Shock 2?
I had a look and it seems i never bought this on steam so bought it now.
Anyone know if this is the best graphics pack to use or is there something else?
No, you don't need to play SS1 first.
You carry weapons, ammo, a psionic magic arm thing, different tools for crafting, etc.
It's not nostalgia at all; it's a great game.
If you liked Deus or Thief at all, you will probably like this game.
Same story for me, I first played SS2 in 2011 or 2012 and it is easily one of my all-time favorite games. I'd highly recommend it to anyone with non-shit-tier taste.
>try playing SS1
>have no clue what anything does
>download and read the manual
>still have no clue what I'm doing
You don't need to play SS1, but they do reference events from the first game. If you don't think you'll play SS1 then I'd suggest you read the plot summary on Wikipedia or something.
You can carry weapons, ammo, hypos (health/mana potions), research ingredients, hacking tools, etc.
Make sure you save regularly, as I remember it, SS2 only autosaves when you change floors of the ship, which doesn't happen very often.
Also note that the default controls are from another time and will probably be very awkward for you if you aren't used to old-school shooters. You can change the controls easily, but I've seen people bitch about them before.
I don't recommend any mods for a first playthrough. If you're absolutely a tremendous fag, you can use SHTUP, which provides increased resolution textures and doesn't fuck up the game's atmosphere too much. Don't you ever let me catch you using Rebirth, though.
will look into some graphics pack stuff
don't see why anyone would have a problem with some graphical upgrades that don't effect gameplay. though I'm not autistic
guess i'll see how it plays first
Sid Meier's Pirates! is probably still the best pirate game ever made.
I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream is also supposed to be really good if you like point-and-click adventure games and kinda morbid atmospheres.
I have never played it and it's been on my backlog for at least 5 years now.
I didn't say i can't run SS2, i'm saying i don't bother to go shop on Steam because i can't play 90% of the shit there without lowering the graphics at least
And i already pirated it Started playing and then stopped out of monkeys frustation But i still have it, i'll try again sooner or later
Coop doesn't work on Steam at all? That's balls
Me and a friend played through in its entirety a while ago and it was such a great coop experience. I was honestly surprised it was such a fluid, painless experience for an older game.
I don't like most of the graphics mods because I feel like none of them get the atmosphere right. One of the strongest points for me in SS2 is how well they nailed the spooky, isolated, and hostile atmosphere. I've tried a variety of the graphics mods but none of them do a good enough job of capturing the SS2 atmosphere for me and I think they weaken the overall experience.
SS2 really showed me how important sound is for an atmospheric video game. It's really one of those games you should be playing with headphones at night, to get the full effect of the game's sound and atmosphere. The graphics are important as well but they take a back seat to the audio in this game.
>those monsters in the distance
>that hum of the engines
>that weird harp music in the garden level
I don't remember for sure if you can add subtitles but a major component of the story is told through audio logs you find, and those audio logs have the text displayed.
This is true. SS2's sound design is fucking top notch. I wish the vidya industry would put more emphasis on better sound design instead of constantly focusing on muh graphics.
Why does captcha keep thinking I am a robot?
>it's ok to burn money without reason
Don't ever buy old games off Steam you giant faggots.
If it doesn't work, Valve will just go tell you to go fuck yourself. Source: That's what they told me to do with the old Xcom games.
If you must buy old games (and I don't know why you wouldn't just pirate it), buy them off GOG. At least they make an effort to get them working on modern systems and guarantee that they will.
well hot damn, I've been meaning to play that.
thanks for making this known to me OP
That's probably just because you're a faggot.
correction, it's okay to burn money if it's for something that you personally have been meaning to play.
Hell, I have dick-all in my bank account, but 99 cents for a good spooky game that'll run on my toaster? I'm all for that.
The game works on Win7 with no problems, I just downloaded it, installed this pack >>275452052
and it runs fine at 1080p with no tweaking required (except some keybinds).
It's the only game I've ever had to turn off because it was making me too uneasy.
Granted, this was back in like 1998 and it was on one of the later levels, and the graphics are a bit underwhelming nowadays, but it is a damn atmospheric game even now.
