I must admit, I'm surprised to see how casuals FPS became.
I finished Singularity with almost no problem in normal, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein in normal mode is kicking my ass hard.

Oh yes, I found that out after wasting all of my ammo on them and having a truly nail biting run through the level with only my knife and boot. The next level was almost impossible too because it introduced those sexy latex chicks with the SMGs.

The area boss is creepy as fuck too, a shame that it's a pushover if you go back to the start of the level and trap it in the doorway.

Blood isn't hard it just requires playing in an unenjoyable fashion to get through it. You have to memorize locations of enemies to pre-empt attacks, you have to use luring. It can also be kind of tedious. It's not so much that it's difficult it's that's designed to be unfun as shit.

A lot of people say this but it isn't true. If you check angles and pivot yourself about them appropriately and be ready to shoot etc you can get by just fine. You won't be able to evade every single cultist shot but you can drastically cut them down, and they drop health anyway so it's balanced. Also crouching helps a lot. Approach is very important in Blood, you don't just run into an area and run and gun like you do in other shooters. Also gotta use the right weapon for the right job.

To be honest, I'm loving the challenge, but some of this is just absolute bullshit. The number of ambushes and the insane enemy placement takes some getting used too, but I'm loving the shooting/gameplay and exploration.

Descent is a worthwhile game to play, but it's not really an FPS. It is largely 'first person' and it's a shooter. But it's vehicle control. If it were an FPS then so would Spectre VR, Mechwarrior, Battlezone, Commanche and Red Baron, etc...

You know what I miss most in FPS games? Adventure and secrets. It was more than just blasting the shit out of cookie-cutter enemies, you had to solve simple puzzles and look for secret areas, exploring well designed, non-linear, multi-tiered levels.

Now, you either walk in a straight line and shoot at things or you're given a pointless "open world" where you walk from point A to point B and shoot at things.

Eh, most FPS games had simple puzzles if that. Honestly I'd rather not deal with secrets unless they were well done and they usually weren't. They were usually hump random wall for no good reason.

Also a good majority of old FPS games were largely segregated out to be fairly linear, just a more confusing - key grabbing way where backtracking might be necessary.

Secrets in multiplayer can go fuck right off entirely though.

I wish there was more games encouraging stabbing while making it fun. The only solo one I know is Dishonored, and you get a bad ending if you kill people.

Otherwise there's Team Fortress 2, but it's with humans, it's less fun.

Still it reminded me of how much I loved the genre. Cheesy and funny soldier conversations that made me not want to kill them. And the voice actors for the osa are enjoyable. So many fucking weapons too available at all times and finding armor and ammo

Wanna go Rambo with bow and arrows? Wanna stab everyone? Wanna snipe? Wanna free that monsters?

Far Cry games are relying on that mechanism of giving you the same puzzle while offering you different way to solve it a bit too much, I agree.
But I personally never get bored.

Because of these fucking kamikazes. If it were only for the normal enemies, the game would be easy as fuck, but the kamikazes are a damn pain in the ass that forces you to be constantly ready, in case you hear that scream, to turn around and shoot him.

I agree entirely, I guess I just personally enjoy faster paced games, and far cry has always felt like crysis without a super suit to me. Whenever I start getting into far cry i just go play crysis, but thats just me.

Crysis 1 and warhead are fucking amazing. Crysis 2 is total shit.

Crysis 3 fixes a ton of the issues with 2 and is really fun, but not as good as 1 and warhead. 3 has a bow thats the best bow I've ever used.

Even so you can take like 4-5 of them and survive.
One kleer gets behind you in the middle of a horde fight? Your timings gets all fucked up if you don't 180 and kill it ASAP and it WILL fuck you up if you ignore it.

Kleer are my favorite skeletons in all video games.
