Ok let's discuss why the world needs a new cyberpunk game and why we are tired of swords, shields and any other fucking middle ages stuff.
I wanna see sexxybots everywhere!
2077
>tfw no news on the next Deus Ex in forever
>tfw no news on 2077 in forever
>tfw when those GITS movies were mostly mediocre
>tfw Remember Me should have been called Wasted Potential: The Game
Life is suffering.
>>272863732
I can wait for it, but give me something, Christ!
>>272863875
Last I heard, Deus Ex Universe was gonna be three games. That was earlier this year I think.
>>272864046
Source? That press release thing didn't mention 3 games and Universe was the name of the multimedia project (books, comics, etc) not any game.
>>272863703
2077 has been cancelled. Those drunk pollacks gonna make another shitcher game. Life is pain.
>>272864393

>tfw when those GITS movies were mostly mediocre
What the fuck are you talking about?
All i want is a good cyberpunk noir. Why is so hard

I'm just so god damn sick of generic fantasy games. I want cyberpunk. I NEED cyberpunk.
>>272863875
GiTS in all 3 primary forms (manga, TV, movies) is da bomb fo shiggity. Keeping it 90's n' such.
>>272863703
well, there's this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASmpwURXRaM
>>272864556
I want a cyberpunk game where I can play as someone like the Major.I just want to play as the Major
literally all you have to do is make a GitS mod for SWAT 4.
that's it.
add wallhacks, cloaking, caseless ammo, and cool voice overs to SWAT 4. bam. GitS game.
>>272865195
it's called neotokoyo
>>272864393
HURR DURR NEVER EVER. Fuck off already.
>>272865131
Well it's ok, but why it has to be an online shooter?
>>272863982
Have you tried Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall?
>>272865254
Neotokyo on steam is Uber shit.
>>272863703
>dat comfy non-digital anime feel
>>272865398
Is it like Fallout or Xcom?
What if pic related was a GITS game?
>>272865508
It's not open-world, its more like hubs and combat areas, but it is an excellent game.
>>272865410
>being a plen
>>272865563
>Why everything must be a generic shooter
I'll never understand
>>272865508
Yeah I guess.
4 man team.
Mission based, with a hub area
Turn based combat.
Rpg elements determine your options.
>>272865668
I'll try it
>>272865398
I support this. Dragonfall is an underrated gem. Gameplay is ok maybe a bit repetitive but story is really enticing. The lore is really immersive.
>>272865563
EYE had a lot of mechanics that were spot on for a GITS type game. The cloaking, vision modes, upgrading your cyber brain/limbs/systems, hacking other people, targeting systems and stuff. Man it was cool.
However, the game had too much combat. There weren't enough ways to interact with the world or engage with the story besides shooting tons of Metastreum monsters or dudes.
>>272863703
>>272865563
>>272865956
Clearly we have two different faction on /v/
>One wants Noir Cyberpunk games
>The other wants Cyberpunk Fps
I'm ok with both but give us something
>>272866135
The more I think about it the more I want a noir with little combat. Something like Deus Ex where you should be avoiding most combat.
I kind of want Deus Ex but with the Major now.
>>272865697
>EYE, a generic shooter
Are you baiting or just retarded ?
Apart from Deus Ex, i don't see any other game that resemble this one.
>>272866309
I'm gonna try it, but if it is a generic shooter I will curse you to hell
>>272866135
technically cod is a cyperpunk fps, as is half life and all of the mods made for it. Hard Reset exists too
when it comes to noir cyberpunk the closest are probably the various cyberpunk mods for fallout 3 and new vegas
>>272866625
>technically cod is a cyperpunk fps
don't see how.
>>272866625
>Cod
>Cyberpunk

>>272866701
I think he is reffering to Advanced Warfare. But I haven't played that game, so I can't comment.
>>272866701
near future is close enough to be called "cyberpunk", especially AW
not that it's particularly good cyberpunk, but cyberpunk nevertheless
>>272866135
>>272866881
>>272866903
That's sci-fi buddy. Let's don't mix races now
>>272866903
yeah that's just sci-fi. cyberpunk has a set of parameters that must be met none of which CoD really hit except maybe the posthuman element.
>>272865692
I just joined this thread when someone posted the trailer to the new GITS game.
NeoTokyo is flawed as hell. It really quickly starts to just feel like a CS game in disguise in terms of movement and theres very little that can go wrong with either a sniper or shotgun, and unlocking that just cements winning team's positions. There's FUCK ALL tactical options besides map awareness since leaning in a source mod is horrible and difficult to use let alone effectively (when you can reliably headshot even unscoped hiding the body isn't helping).
It really needs a better engine, more tactical options, preferably remove the Light/Medium/Heavy classes and simply make them loadout options, more decent maps (why people vote for train? It's a fucking SFM asset) and preferably integrate the music into the fucking game instead of requiring a SFM plugin that can't do the job perfectly
>>272867014
Every CS game is a fucking camp game.
Everyone that claims that CS is the best FPS ever made is a noob.
NeoTokyo is just a CS game, pure shit

I also want Blame! expunged from my memory so I can read it again.
>>272864516
He's talking about Arise. He meant to say OVA, but we're on /v/ not /a/ so people think they're movies.

man, as much as I love Blame!, it would never work as a game. the scale things happen on is both too small and too big to work a game around. people reacting at nano-second speeds in combat and then spending twelve years on an elevator is not something you can work into a fun game.

Yes but No, I feel yes the nano-second combat is impossible, and yes you can't put 12 years of elevator or walking across the diameter of jupiter into a game realistically, but the manga never really tries to make it feel like you heavily experienced that spread of time, the impact comes from it telling you such a huge period has gone by and yet the journey carries on. I think with clever cinematography and some good thought into atmosphere it could work out pretty well in a video game. Not perfect, but pretty well, but hey, this is just how I think of it.

>>272872076

Cyberpunk is my favourite setting but I think that has a lot to do with how relatively under-utilized it is. High fantasy settings seem generic because everyone and their indie-dev mother cranks games out in that setting. As much as I mourn the Final Fantasy series' current boring character art direction, their combination of a high-fantasy setting with contemporary architecture is at least new and impressive.
Cyberpunk still seems interesting and different.

Some episodes of Sac/2nd are
Arise is mostly well animated
>>272878056
SAC has a different focus than movies, but it's still a great cyberpunk. Arise is shit.

IIRC, Batou explains at some point that the rounds used aren't designed to be used with that weapon and fuck up the barrel.

SAC and 2nd Gig are both really good. Maybe not as visually impressive as the original movie, but still a really great series.
Arise is sort of divisive, but I haven't seen it all the way through myself, so I couldn't tell you from personal experience.

Are the Patlabor movies stand alone or will I have to watch something else if I want to understand what's going on?
>>272878343
I want to, but I'm afraid of the void after knowing I've seen everything and there's nothing left ;__;
So, is there a genre like cyberpunk but "happier"? I don't know if thats the right word to use but I'm looking for something with a similar aesthetic to cyberpunk but without the themes of post-industrial dystopias, disparity between social classes and megacorporations and such.
>>272878941
Sci-fi. And it's the shit
>>272878827
I remember watching a few of them on Shotime in the early 2000s. I remember them being pretty stand alone. Sure I didn't recognize the characters but the stories where all self contained. Like as long as you know that the cops have mechs you'll be fine.
>>272878941
A cyberpunk world is filled with happiness.

I'm sure there is happiness in cyberpunk worlds, but as you said, the material doesn't really focus on that aspect. I do enjoy cyberpunk and the grittier aspects, but I'm just looking for something a bit lighter with a similar aesthetic that DOES focus on the happier aspects

Oni is pretty great. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.
Gameplay is tight and holds up today.
Story is pretty GitS
There's plenty of mods including hi-res textures, model replacements etc
The game is pretty much an unofficial GitS game anyway, art-wise it's stylistically a little lighter, but every character is pretty much a section 9 analogue.

All things considered she is probably one of the better choices for the role. Not perfect but at least decent. There are plenty of other ways to mess up a GitS movie than just the actress for the major. I have no doubt that Hollywood will try to get as many things wrong as possible.

ThisI ran a cyberpunk 2020 game with a character that had a liquid hydrogen ionized plasma sword that electrically charged bullets to magnetically reflect them off the blade, the user had a chip that increased reaction times to superhuman levels to boot. Jesus, why do people hate Arise so much? I quite like it. Motoko feels like a good mix between her depressive, introspective self in the film, and the more fun, imposing, super-spy girl from the series. It's beautiful to look at and while it can be really hard to follow each case as it happens, they usually tie up really neatly by the end of the episode.
>>272869609
>implying Blade Runner wasn't already a pisspoor adaptation of a superior novel
How is Blade Runner cyberpunk, anyway? Do Androids Dream sure as hell wasn't cyberpunk, so does Blade Runner magically become cyberpunk because of that one, single scene with the Asian advert?
>>272885320
>It's beautiful to look at

>>272879729
I heard about SJ being the Major, but I didn't know it would be set in New York. Jesus. It'll be Dragonball Z: The Movie all over again.
Also, everyone knows she won't get buff for the role.
>>272885569
But that's an incredibly thin premise to call it cyberpunk on. There are none of the typical cyberpunk themes going on, except for machine intelligence. And in the book they were born from Dick's obsession with people walking around who didn't seem, you know, people when you looked at their actions. That's why the androids don't have empathy. They represent that fear, and the novel is in part an examination of that and Dick's obsession with the difference between real and fake in general. It's not a point about machine intelligence.
So the novel is decidedly NOT cyberpunk, and the movie doesn't add anything to the novel to make it more cyberpunk, so following logic the movie isn't cyberpunk. And I get the impression people call it cyberpunk for the same reason they call any old wish fulfillment bullshit steampunk: They liked how it looked. The sprawling megacity, the flying cars, the Asian advert scene all appealed to their inner vision of cyberpunk, even when the movie itself is regular, old undifferentiated science fiction in term of themes.
Joke's on them, too. Most of those buildings are empty.

>>272891384
It's not unwatchable trash, but it's extremely bland and a major step down in quality in just about every way.

>>272895107
I think a better name would be pre-cyberpunk.
Society in Watch_Dogs is on the verge of accepting technology as the ruler, but it was still fairly stable.
Kind of like the difference in setting between Deus Ex and Human Revolution.
In HR humanity was still struggling with accepting augmentations in society (cyberpunk), while this has been completely accepted in the future (post-cyberpunk)
There will be a certain period in time where a huge breakthrough in technology will take place that will impact human society. Watch_Dogs happened before such a change but showed signs of having one in the future, HR had that change happening in the events of the game, and DX had that change already happen in the past, with the consequences of that change being very noticable.
But yeah, if you changed a bunch of buildings and humans into something more traditional cyberpunk, you'd end up with a Psycho-Pass like setting where you play as some kind of vigilante.
Speaking of which, a Psycho-Pass game was announced for the Xbone.
>>272892072

No, but I'm imagining that at the moment she felt her arms ripping off she should have noticed it wouldn't work. I dunno.

Get out.

Do not even begin to question this, it is a philosophical clusterfuck from now on.
Why did she tear her arms off? Is it not completely irrational, should she not be absolutely rational about her decisions? Does she still have some strong emotions? If she does then was this all out of anger? But does it not sadden her to be killed then, after doing such a stupid stunt? Why did she tear her arms off?
You had a period of rebelliousness get paved over by Youtube, Tumblr, and Taylord Swift. That's what killed cyberpunk. It isn't that the dystopian future went away. It's that it's already here. The masses kept in check by media custom tailored for idiots and to turn people into idiots. Sensationalism of fear and momentary upsets that soon fade into distant memory. Nobody is geared for long term efforts or planning anymore. Everyone has ADD. Just like the oligarchs desire.

NEXON.
DON'T YOU FUCK THIS UP YOU SLANTY EYED JEW SHIT PILES YOU.

I don't care why, but I liked it. It's like, she didn't win at the end, it's bittersweet, but she tried.

Brave New World yo
>>272902625
Honestly, I think the reason for that whole thing was as simple as wanting to put a visually striking scene in an animated movie that's known for that sort of thing. It's dumb and kind of at odds with a lot of things in the narrative, but there's no point trying to dissect it.
>>272902625
What always bothers me about these kinds of argumentations is that you think you are excluded from this and some special snowflake who sees through all of the lies of the people at the top.
But if you and so many others are so much smarter than everyone else, why the fuck is the world so shit then?
This whole "the jews rule the world" and "nobody is thinking anymore" does not add up to the people who scream this.
The whole thing has no integrity.

You guys know he outran a fucking pace sprint horse right?

Full-body cyborg, as in little to none organics left (probably bits of brain anyway). I wouldn't be surprised if she can just switch off the pain.

Then read the manga

>But if you and so many others are so much smarter than everyone else, why the fuck is the world so shit then?
That's the tragedy of anon, he's doomed to be smarter than the majority of people but not smart enough to seize the top (also social autism, but that's beside the point).

What grave offense?
Who the fuck else would you want to play a Live Action Kusanagi?

I just got done watching Lucy the other night.
I'd say ScarJo is the preferable choice.
She's even got the kusanagi milf bust too.

>implying first-worlders like us can even be cyberpunk when we lap up the consumerist shit-technology that's loafed out in front of us on a daily basis
The best you can hope for is pic related, again.
>>272904762
