Fallout New Vegas- It was better than F3 in many ways, but its rushed development time really shows. Mods and some great DLC later made it a decent package though.

Dragon age 2- Same thing as above. Though no mods or DLC that bandage it. Just pretend its an expansion pack or DLC spin off and its tolerable.

Skyrim- I dont hate it, I enjoyed it well enough. Just wasn't as good as I thought it would be

Dragon age 2. Because I actually enjoyed Dragon age 1 so much.

Dark Souls 2

The most disappointing experience in the history of video games. I was almost certain it was going to be the best game of all time when I saw the April 2013 footage. Fuck me, just fuck me.

Prototype 2. It may not have been the biggest disappointment, but it was one of the most crushing to me. Prototype 1, while flawed, had some really great gameplay and even the story seemed like it set up for some serious shit to go down in 2 with Pariah. But instead we get James Heller fighting evil Alex Mercer with an oversimplified upgrade system and a lack of Musclemass or Armor, 2 of the better parts of the last game. That and the motivation behind Mercer's evilness was pants on head retarded

DA was like KOTOR for me, a awesome RPG with a ton of different options and paths that just worked so well. The DLC was kind of hit or miss, but it was gearing up for something awesome. It was also clear that they were working on this some time before the EA deal.

...Then EA happened and forced Bioware to make a watered down ME clone with extremely rushed graphics, copy and paste rooms so bad that it looks like a fan mod of the first game, and one of the most boring follow ups to a game I have ever seen.

I even ignored most people's suggestions and bought it when it was on sale a year or so after launch. Jesus Christ, that was a gigantic mistake.

eh, ill agree with you there. a lot of the powers were borrowed from okami, but the introduction of partners also really kicked it up a notch as well, allowing for more stuff to be done.

of course, it did kind of fall into that whole zelda type nonsense where they're useful for one small portion for the game, and useless the rest, but it was still really neat

and cmon, that end was pretty rad.

i think if they waited a couple years for it to be made on the 3ds it would have been far more successful, as more people would get to know about the game and it'd be a good launch title for the new hardware.

oh well, here's to hoping for the future at least.

Witcher 2.

I haven't played the first one, but I read some good things about the whole franchise, so I gave it a try. Controls were very clunky. Kind of reminded me of GTA a bit when walking around. Story wasn't particularly engaging. Characters weren't very relatable or likable. Pre-rendered scenes were decent to look at, but actual gameplay wasn't all that impressive visually.

Witcher 3 is supposed to be true "open world", so I may give that a try, but I'm not buying unless it's good.

I played 7 when it came out and playing 8 afterwords was such a let down.

Without equal, Mass Effect 3.

However, I was so disappointed by Earthworm Jim 3D that I returned it to my local game store during the first night of my rental. I paid extra to exchange it for another game, which was godly Harvest Moon 64, even though I'd rented that before.

Skyrim was good, just not as good as oblivion. The dumbed down the character creation/skills WAY to much. The story was ok though, not great, but ok. Ive played through skyrim 3 times and feel like ive done pretty much all there is to do. Ive played through oblivion like 10+ times and i still feel like theres something neat in missed. In skyrim, it just felt like nothing you did mattered. And it pissed me off that you dont actually end up killing aulduin at the end.

While I don't agree with him he is right. If you read Raising the Bar, it shows a shitload of great ideas, locations, and characters that they just sort of cut for one reason or another.

I think that HL2 is great, and it may just be selection bias for the book, but the section about HL1 seems to point towards the final game being the best of everything they came up with regardless while HL2 had a ton of awesome ideas that never got beyond prototyping.

Playing through DOOM 3 BFG as we speak, and boy, is it assy.
I can't even imagine how monotonous this game was with the original flashlight mechanics. I guess it would basically be like Mace Griffon: Bounty Hunter but that's still likely a far better game.
