Did you guys like this series? I just beat the first game and now I'm moving on to the second, it's pretty fun. The music's really good, too.
>>
It was my favorite GBA game. It had some god tier graphics and music for a portable game too.
>>
I love it, OP. The music gets better in the second game. Also, Air's Rock is a bitch.
>>
I kinda like Felix more than Isaac.
>>

Finally beating the first part of the final boss was amazing for me.
Then I was even more amazed, those frustrated, when they turned into a dragon and wrecked my shit
>>
its a relaxing series, one of the last adventure games i enjoyed (the last one were the banjo series).

Most gameplay vids I see always seem to replace Felix with Isaac when they get the old party back, but i always stick with Lost age Party primarily

The games are decent. 2 > 1. Don't even play 3, it's an embarrassment.
>>
>>268457035
>>268456986
Team two was underleveled by the time I got them.
Though I dunno if having them in the primary party levels them up faster or what, I never really bothered to tryq
>>
>>268456178

I like it a lot, but Christ, some of the cutscenes put Buckley to shame. Dark Dawn was one of my biggest disappointments.
>>
>>268456389
The first time I played, I didn't know you could loop around after going down the sand waterfall, and thought I was stuck because there was no Reveal door to get back up.

Really good use of the hardware, I remember GS on the GBA when it first came out.

It was gorgeous and still looks good on emulator as well.

Describe the characters of Golden Sun without bringing up their appearance, their powers, or their role.

Generic but fun and fast-paced battles
Nice music
Nice graphics

Mediocre dungeons

>>268458927

No, Piers is bad. And you should feel bad for using Piers. In general, good equipment pool, but all of his classes are the Water/Wind mage style classes EXCEPT for his pure water class. Which, btw, is completely shit compared to Ninja/Samurai/Dragoon series of the Fire/Earth adepts. Hell, Jenna with Tisiphone Edge was better than Piers.
>>
>>268456178
Sure, too bad people forgot about them.

>>
>>268459138
Literally no one is praising Golden Sun for its characters; the first two are good because they're fun.
>>
>>268459138
Isaac: Bound by duty to his friends, often to a fault
Garrett: Headstrong, brash young man looking for adventure
Ivan: Trying to prove himself
Mia: uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Felix: Forced onto a dark path by forces out of his control, while still trying to do the right thing
Jenna: Similar to Felix, but more committed to the right thing
Sheba: Trying to find out who she is and what she's meant to do
Piers: Lost scion of an ancient society trying to find acceptance in the outside world after being rejected by his home
>>
The only thing I absolutely fucking hated were the gold codes, they were like 3 pages long and took forever to fill out
>>
>>268460363
and sometimes you would get a plus sign instead of a t and wondering what the fuck you did wrong
>>
>>268458985
I don't see why it gets so much praise. It consisted of piss easy combat and retarded inventory based puzzles with those dumbass stones you had to carry everywhere.

The class system was interesting, but ultimately pointless because of how easy the game was. The graphics were alright but nothing to write home about. The story was balls terrible and the characters, for the most part, were dumb as rocks. Isaac was silent, Garret was a dipshit, Ivan was a 'push the plot forward' man, and Mia might as well have been mute.

The second game's characters are a bit better, except Felix just becomes Isaac, Jenna is a retard much like Garret, and Piers feels out of place. I don't remember much of Sheeba though.

So why the praise?

I did however play a pinch of Dark Dawn, and besides the points of no return and dumb story, I thought the game was alright.

Certinaly nice looking for a DS game.
>>
>>268461903

Best RPG series of all time. 3rd was kinda meh compared to the first two but holy fuck I hope Nintendo doesn't abandon this series.
>>
>>268462673

It is when you're just forced to aimlessly walk around the random-encounter filled world map for hours looking for the right event flag to move the plot forward, especially when it takes the game about two thirds into the story to even tell you why your party is doing what it is doing.

>>
Heavy nostalgia involved, but holy fuck if isn't comfy.

>Stupid big overworld with tons of stuff to explore
>Puzzles and combat are very enjoyable
>Psynergy is actually used outside of combat for progression, and also for useless but fun shit like mind reading NPCs
>Djinn system is fucking based
>Kickass graphics
>Soundtrack is Motoi Sakuraba on fucking steroids
>No seriously why are his GS soundtracks way better than anything else he does

It probably helps if you're playing it as one of your first RPGs, but back in fourth grade or whatever it felt like I was a proper adventurer on an epic quest. Cool shit.

<spoiler>I even enjoyed Dark Dawn. It wasn't as great as the first two, but hell, just walking around the world map with Sakurabas tunes filling the headphones was enough to take me back. </spoiler> Would be legit excited to play a new Golden sun. We'll have to work on getting Samurai to get Isaac in.
>>
>>268464069
>No seriously why are his GS soundtracks way better than anything else he does

They sound exactly the same as his Tales soundtracks which all sound the same among each other, too.
>>
>>268464069
Eh, Camelot's not really an RPG company. They just want to make tennis and golf.
>>
>>268460535
The game doesn't get anywhere near as much praise as you people claim it does. I'm starting to suspect it's a convenient strawman to justify hating on it.
>>
>>268463186
I don't know how anyone can say it about any JRPG. I hear it a lot about Xenoblade these days from Nintendo fanboys, despite it failing to execute most things that FF12 did far better.
>>
>>268456389
First time is a pain, can be pretty frustrating and is a longass dungeon. You start outside, then climb the mountain, then you are inside of a huge dungeon going up and down and all around. 2nd time you play this is actually pretty comfy and a good feel of adventure
>>
>>268456178

They just liked to fuck with names. Isaac is Robin in Japan, and Garet is Gerald. There's other ones too.

The first game is good, not too big of a fan of Lost Age. Pacing is fucking terrible in that game and they somehow managed to do things worse than in GS1. Fuck the boat, fuck the long ass time it takes to get around the world map(glad they give you a teleport power in the LAST FUCKING DUNGERON) and fuck the plot. Decent game, though.

Hello, I am this game's main villain.

My entire achievements over the course of both games' plots are convincing two people who wanted to save the world to go save the world, opening a door and trying to buy a boat. You could cut me out of the plot and the story would still progress and end exactly the same.

What I loved most about this game which is usually overlooked and not commented on is the level and puzzle design.

The constant usage of psynergies to get through different levels and then going back to older ones when you got a new psynergy definitely made the game stand out from other Jrpgs.

They really stepped their game up by adding upgradable weapons in Dark Dawn.

I just wish the game wasn't so easy, ended on a cliffhanger and didn't have some retarded design decisions.
>>
>>268468258
That's actually something I really like about the plot. Can't say I've ever seen a game where none of the antagonists are "bad", and the actual villain is just a pushover that wrecks himself in the end.

>>268467771
I liked Dark Dawn and I've been a diehard fan of the series since they came out.

>>
>>268470116

>>
>>268469682
that djinn class change thing was new, i suppose

the actual combat system is just typical jrpg combat

and class change was done ages before

summons aren't new either

you can't really say it's unique because it added something like that

>>
>>268470219
well, i like GS1 more than 2 so I get that my opinion is different than most. DD isn't even a bad game, it just feels kinda there, you know? It took steps backwards in terms of improving the flow of the game. I do like it a bit, but just feel like it made the same mistakes GS2 did.

we still haven't fought alex or gotten a conclusion to the plot

think of how stupid that is.
>>
>>268456178

Basically the lighthouses were sealed to take away the power of alchemy from people, because humanity was misusing it to wage war or something.
But the thing is, when the lighthouses were sealed, the alchemy that held the world together was gone, so the world started to slowly decay and fall apart from the outside. Keep in mind Weyard is flat, not spherical like Earth.

The plot of the games was really weird.
The antagonists wanted to light the lighthouses.
Isaacs party wanted to stop it.
The antagonists, as well as Felix party in 2 wanted to light them, yet they still fought each other for some reason.
In the end Isaac and Felix lit all lighthouses and saved the world, getting rid of everyone who tried to light the lighthouses as well in the process.

Golden Sun felt too quick for a JPRG, can't tell how dissapointed I was when I found out I wouldn't end the quest in the first game. Also being a grind loving autistic faggot,it felt terrible having to level my party to 99 solely by killing Storm Lizards and Tempest Lizards in Suhalla Desert.

But! Everything was worth it when TLA was released, the game was basically the original, but 10x bigger with a few nice small additions, such as the blacksmith. Also it was nice to have a decent way to level the party with the Phoenix enemy line.

That's why by the time I got the original party in TLA I started using:
>Isaac
>Garret
>Jenna
>Piers

Isaac and Garret basically carried everyone.

Few things still stick with me till today, like soundtrack, weapon names, unleashes names and animations.

Setting being Avatar The Last Airbender the video game. I'm sorry you don't like it.
>>

Anemos Sanctum was the city of Jupiter adepts who:

Built the Jupiter Lighthouse
Floated their whole fucking city into the sky
Dropped Sheba like an unwanted child and never went back to pick her up.
Where you fought Dullahan for the Iris summon
>>
>>268473817

Except Avatar has a consistent world where each elemental nation has its own distinct architecture and culture, while Golden Sun has a bunch of JRPG tropes like "the ninja village" and "the thieves hideout" randomly scattered around the world map with no regard to geography.

Didint camelot said yes to golden sun 4 back in 2013?

Again, sorry you didn't like it.
I did.
I thought it was charming, and I loved the 4 elements motif.
>>

There was a Ninja Village in Golden Sun?
>>
>>268474435
Not him but i did really liked it too, Korra is shit, dropped the first 2 caps.
>>
>>268474497

Yes, the one where they randomly decided to have a reference to Yamata no Orochi.
>>
>>268474497
I think it was either the one where you learned the kamehameha, or the one at that mountain where you had to wake up that dragon with light beams.
Or were those the same thing?
It's been damn long since I played the games, plus I'm really tired.
>>
>>268474621

But there weren't any ninjas in that village.

Also that island is suppose to be Fantasy medieval Japan.

Just like how Northern Hesperia is filled with Native Americans and Eastern Angara is filled with chinese monks.

But it's not randomaly inserted in, because Izumo is geographically Japan.

The Lost Age is my favorite game of all time. Golden Sun may have its flaws, but no game before or after got me so invested. My first playthroughs of the first two games were magical.

>>268476683
Really, Dark Dawn wasn't that bad.

I'm personally under the impression that people are just experiencing Star Fox syndrome and dislike it for not being the same or for being easier, perhaps.

>There will never be Tales of Golden Sun, a retelling of the original two games with a battle system that combines the strengths of both Golden Sun and Tales.

Fuck.
>>
>>268477686
No, it was shit. Here, I'll tell you why it was shit.

>Points of no return. Absolutely inexcusable and completely went against the entire feeling of adventure that the first two games establish
>One new summon
>Overall too easy
>Abandoning the geography of the first two games, replacing it with shit areas
>Forcing eight characters to join the party in the most unnatural way possible
>Replacing the interesting elemental conflict with "muh edgy DARKNESS" plot
>Alex, again

I could probably go on, but the game was so terrible and an insult to everything that made the first two so great.
>>
Any of you fags ever played link battles? Never seen that in any JRPG before.

That's, like, your opinion. Tales has a pretty fun battle system, and it's one of the only RPGs you can play couch multiplayer with bros.
>>
>>268478527
Battles between two players on two GBAs.
>>
>>268477686
What I don't get is why people dislike DD and like TLA despite them sharing many of the same basic issues.
>>
It's hopelessly generic. Good intro to JRPGs though.
>>
>>268478629

TLA didn't have points of no return, for one thing.

Also introduced loads more summons.
>>
>>268478678
>Huge sense of adventure, with tons of islands to explore and djinns to find, both in dungeons and in the wild, and with little to guide you
>Tons of new summons
>Not too easy
>Interesting and unique areas require the use of numerous types of syngery
>Weaving together the stories of the first game's party and the second game's party, making their team-up reasonable
>Interesting elemental conflict

.
>>
>>268478847
That's why I said many.
>>
>>268463186
People always hold extremely high opinions of their first games, especially if they haven't played it in years. Also the GBA was seriously lacking JRPGs that weren't ports/remakes so it made it look even better by comparison.
>>
>>268479440
Everything else was relatively small in comparison
>>
>>268472726

Actually the setting itself is deeply based on the world we live in. The continent Angara is based on the name of a river in Russia, so you could say that Angara is based of that whole part of the world. Osenia is Australia, Izumo is Japan, Atteka is South America, Hesperia is North America, Gondowan is Africa, and so on. Literally the entire map is based of the real world. And you can see this with the types of NPCs you encounter in each continent.
>>
>>268479739
TLA's fucking retarded plot is bad. The pacing is bad. The fucking trident quest being something you'd need a walkthrough for is bad. Sailing is the slowest and most boring thing, and that is bad.

>>268479379
TLA is better, but still has its own glaring issues.
>>
>>268478795
mario kart dlc means nothing. smash characters take more work to make.
