>boss at low health
>possesses your healer
>healer uses a max heal spell on boss
>"Okay! I'll help you out!"
>"Some enemies have weaknesses to certain attacks! Press L2 to view enemy weaknesses!"
>??? in every field
>boss can reflect your attacks for basically a OHKO
>boss can heal himself up from near death
>boss can make your potions kill you
>boss can insta lower your HP to 1
>this is all the same boss and requires to be farmed for his gear
>boss autocasts a spell that hits for cap damage on defeat
>boss can permanently remove party members from the battle
>You have rolling hitpoints
Mash confirm to not die
>boss regenerates HP at the end of every turn
>boss has two health bars and literally trillions of HP
>literally fucking trillions
>the first health bar can't be damaged by you
>same outcome whether win or lose
>Have to work with AI partner to take down enemies
>No way to control him
>He changes targets at whim
>defeat extremely hard boss
>it gives you 1 exp and no tangible reward other than bragging rights
>oh boy game is cool, not too hard and not too easy
>duriel boss fight
>party member is confused/charmed!
>party member hurts himself!
>party member heals the boss for 9999!
>Boss has 50 hp bars
>It takes you 10 min to kill one with the best equipment.
>boss has 300% lifesteal on his melee attacks
>party member is confused/charmed!
>one shots another party member in a game with permadeath
Fuck you Fire Emblem
>boss is invincible
>assume it's scripted for you to lose
>get game over screen when boss kills you
>beat extremely hard bonus boss
>explore bonus dungeon
>find a room with a dozen of the bloody things walking around
>mfw this happened to me and I'm called Alex
>only purpose of the fight is to get utterly destroyed to show how strong it is
>Tries to remove party member's equipment
>tfw Berserk staves ALWAYS hit
>mfw it hit Raven
>boss is constantly pushing you towards a bottomless pit or something similar
You're in the boss arena and the arena infinitely spawns sandworm enemies, you can either trick them into aggroing against the boss or kill them, they leave a pool of caustic blood and if you get the boss to walk into the blood he'll take dots.
The biggest problem is that he has so much fucking HP that it takes something like 10-15 minutes just to be able to hurt him yourself.
>boss can cast a spell to put everyone at 1 HP as well as party-wide AOE spells in the same turn
>Boss doesn't show its HP
>Boss bleeds, screams and reacts to you hitting on it
>You aren't actually doing any damage and need to do something else entirely
>boss resistances and weaknesses change through the battle
>every 45 seconds the boss casts death on a random player
>also spawns an enemy when that player dies
>there is no way to avoid it
>boss fight starts
>non-descript countdown appears on the screen
>final boss dies
>one of the main villain's minions backstabs him
>real final boss begins
>27-hours long bossfight
>5 different forms
>MILLIONS of HP per form
>no chance to rest or save between them
>hour-long cutscene before the actual fight
>bosses and elites mooks are jokes
>hardest enemy in the game is a random low level mook that for some reason has the hardest hitting attack in the game thats also ranged
>Boss health bar is decreasing quite fast.
>It's almost dead.
>I wonder what those ~20 little blocks under the health bar are for.
>Boss loses last of its HP.
>One of the blocks disappears, HP returns to full.
Borderlands has a REALLY bad level scaling problem. I'm no expert on game mechanics so I can't explain it to you in detail, but it seems the only way they have of making enemies harder or more durable is to just inflate stats. That means endgame numbers are just ludicrous
>You die at exactly the same time the boss dies
>boss counters everything you do to it by changing its weakness
>it can't be hit by anything but its weakness
>you need to scan it to find out its weakness
>scanning it triggers its counter, which changes its weakness
FUCK YOU MAGIMASTER
>fire projectile or pull pin on grenade
>grenade doesn't explode
>projectile disappears in midair
>win the battle under time limit
>fail and get the bad ending
>boss can spend more than one turn buffing and debuffing
>boss can then trade mana for more turns
>boss can then cast AOE multiple times
I thought /v/ was kidding.
>Bossfight is a struggle of constant dodging and perfect timing to break his pattern and damage him
>His health is at about 15%
>He tumbles around stunned for 5 seconds
>You have to do something really specific to finish him
>If you fail to do it in time he heals back up to 80%
>After getting his health down for the fifth time, using all your healing items and dodging skills you finally try to punch him in the back with the butt of your starting revolver while it has 3 bullets in the chamber
>His HP goes to zero
>It wasn't even his final form
>Be autistically keeping everyone's level the same.
>Cool, everyone's level 30 now! That sure is a nice round level!
>Oh hey, look at these funny robot looking enemies I wonder wha-
>game focuses around status effects and stun-locking
>every single enemy that doesn't die in a single hit is immune to stun-locking and status effects and can stun you constantly and block you too
>can't stun or do status effects on any boss at all
>Boss has an attack that lover your entire party's hp to 1
>Only way to counter it is to go throught QTE sequence but if you fail it's instant game over
>No QTE indication on the screen
>Nowehere a single mention of it in the game
>No one on the internet knows actual combination so every post is just repeatin i similar ones
>Boss is easy as shit, but summons minions after it loses a certain amount of HP.
>Each of the minions hits nearly as hard as the boss and has several times as much as HP as a normal enemy.
>There are like fucking 10 of them or something and they gang up on your weakest party member.
>boss has a spell to give himself extra turns
>"But surely the AI is scripted to use it only so oft-" NO FUCK YOU he can use it all the time and even several times in a fucking row!
Are you talking about Penance? Because the fight lasts like 45 minutes at most, with the proper setup it's more like 20 minutes.
The preparations and the necessary stat maxing on the other hand take fucking ages.
>reach big bad boss of whole game
>get in depth background regarding plans to dominate world
>point out fatal flaw in boss' plan
>boss ruminates on this
>defeating final boss without lifting a finger
>Why give me status affect magic if all enemies are too weak to make them useful and bosses are immune to them?
God fucking dammit why is this every jrpg ever made? Does anyone test this shit?
I went in -without- stat maxing and barely squeezed by having exhausted about everything I had at that point - summons, rare items, money
fucking yojimbo, etc.
Fortunately there wasn't anything else to do in the game anyways.
>Boss arena inflicts constant paralysis
>Are you talking about Penance? Because the fight lasts like 45 minutes at most
alright im pretty sure you've never played the game mate.
the quickest you can beat it with years of practice is just over 30 mins.
however if you have enough gil you can beat it within seconds
>boss uses special attack that triggers the scripted scene
>it still does a ton of damage and kills you if it knocks your health to zero
And this is why I only speedrun Super Metroid the one time.
>final boss is just a slightly harder version of a regular enemy
>doesn't even have a special final boss fight theme
>screen zooms out for the bosses death animation
>you can die if his corpse falls on you
Speaking of ailments in Final Fantasy.
>ailment that freezes the enemy's ATB gauge
>can be set to a weapon so that it hits 100% when you use a physical attack
>the final boss can be hit by it
>the optional superbosses can be hit by it
That reminds me of Chaos in Final Fantasy I, at least the Dawn of Souls version. I don't think he actually has full heal, but his healing spells can prolong the fight quite a bit
>enemy hp: ????
That's less important than a lot of the other problems people have expressed in this thread, but I REALLY FUCKING HATE IT. There's no reason to hide the enemy's health except to be annoying- it doesn't make things harder, it just means the player can't estimate how much time a fight will take.
>You can kill bosses without them getting a single turn
I'm not sure how to feel about this.
>majority of bosses can kill you in one hit unless you gouge Vigor
>hitboxes are complete shit
>two optional bosses entire gimmick is that they just do massive damage
>one of the hardest fights in the game
>actually one is weak to petrify (instant death)
>the other is weak to actual instant death
Funny I was thinking of PSO2. Shit happened to me and what sucked was that I was playing on a difficulty that if you died you couldn't continue.
8? I don't remember what I put on my weapon since I hardly ever fought anything since I went straight to No Encounters on Diablo.
SRW is so easy it needs to do that to be remotely challenging.
Just mob the nigger with supers, set them in formation so everyone supports each other's asses and spam spirits like no tomorrow.
>every boss past the half-way point is incredibly boring
>Boss need 3 full parties to kill him
>takes 6 arrows to the chest
>still need to fight him 1 on 1
>the game is only half way done
>boss is weak to an element your party has no access to throughout the game
Shit never did that. While I'm not a fan of 7 I do like how insane you can do things with the meteria.
It's just meant to make you feel like the boss is insane. Where you don't know how close you are in beating it and just hope to god you can live past it. I actually like when it does that.
>90% chance to miss when you attack it
>it can ohko party members
>it runs away
>first boss is fucking GOAT
>rest of the game is shit
>Arrive at boss' hideout with 5 other guys
>Boss just absorbs them, sucks them out of their armor with tentacle straws
>Boss is protected by shields you have to shoot down that keep regenerating
>When they are all down it is immune against every of your weapons except for one
>Constantly changes his weakness
>Constantly regenerates his shields
>Second form is invincible
>You have to survive untill a special weapon arives that can hurt it
>That feel when it finally arrives and you walk up to this fucker and show him what you've got
>His hideout explodes
>Boss casts Fire Wall which increases its fire resistance.
>Fire Wall wears off.
>Cast Fire on boss.
>Boss absorbs it.
>It Has To Be This Way goes well with the final boss fight and the lyrics actually fit
Dark Souls does this.
Don't know if you mean that but Persona loves doing shit like that. Seriously I hate how the first few bosses are annoyingly hard just because you wouldn't have any access to the spells to make everything easier. And once you are at the half way point you got enough fire power to destroy everything.
>original antagonist is just a sub-boss
>final boss doesn't have its own theme music
>is actually a chump after its will-drain gimmick
>fuck is this shit
>this creepy-ass nigga shows up
>fight only lasts 3 turns
>TO BE CONTINUED MOTHERFUCKERS
>Enemy that looks like one of the enemies you killed right at the start
>Tiny HP but enough defense the best you can do is 1 damage and even that takes luck
>Every turn it has a 50% chance of running away
>If killed you are rewarded with a massive amount of EXP
>Bosses you previously defeated join him
>Main theme kicks in
>Game has you control two different parties
>Game ranks your performance after every battle
>Fight party 2 with party 1, then party 1 with party 2 right after
>The party that got a better rank determines which one wins and the ending
>music changes depending on how intense the boss fight it
>lyrics kick in when you hit maximum intensity
Why haven't other games done this? It's so perfect.
A friend told me about that, how bad is it anon?
It's just Son of Sparda, but you die in one hit. Fucking Enigmas probably make it a massive pain in the ass.
The final boss of MGS3 kinda did this by having the themesong clue you in to when you were taking too long. I did a run where I purposely beat The Boss on the last note of the song.
>Boss has a 1HKO ability
>It's the only enemy in the game to have this ability
>It's a roguelike
>Spanish guitar kicks in
>enemy hp: [a number worth making threads about on /v/]
Japs have a hardon for making incredibly complex mechanics for their RPGs and then hiding most of its crucial information.
Even fucking Dark Souls fails to explain that Dex lowers casting times.
>Boss attacks you and your teammates
>You shoot it
>It kills your teammate and disappears
>You couldn't hurt it during this scene because you have to fight it later and just wasted a ton of ammo
>Also ammo is really rare
>Game sets you up with story mission
>Enemy is a pair of bosses
>Scans outright tell you that the enemy cannot be hurt except maybe with itself
>One form of attack completely useless unless if you have a special badge, but even then it is useless
>always give Squall Pandemona
>never have a problem murdering swarms of those fuckers
I will one day...
For you anon ;^)
>changes the music when it's onscreen
>color coded enemies
>they repel their opposite color
>Full Latin chorus and symphony starts playing
>remixed version of the character's theme kicks in
Based Sonic Adventure
Bravely Default? Seriously until Chapter 5 I was calling it my gave of the year. Shit was so good than that happened. I never got past Chapter 5 because of how annoying shit got.
>Boss-rushes before final boss
There is no reason or explanation for this.
I think DMC does it best since the final boss is a whole separate chapter
>boss switches form mid fight after dropping your hp down to 1
>you only get to recover health after dodging a barrage of attacks
>boss from a different game is a boss in the game you're playing
>its theme is remixed to fit your current game's world
>"An embodiment of evil intentions. Gives off a foul pestilent air that is enough to end the lives of any unfortunate sensitive souls who happen to breathe it in."
>Has light as element
Is devil hand from god hand the best boss fight on any action game?
>boss has similar abilities to you
Oh Devil Hand
>get boss down to half health
>use healing items
>you were supposed to die
Worth it? Because I just got way too pissed off at that.
Hell they didn't even need to put any effort in a second half they could have easily had Chapter 5 as the last chapter where everything comes together. I was clocking around 35 hours right at the end of Chapter 4 so it's not like I would have felt the game was too short.
But yeah I'm going to wait and hear if they pull that shit again before buying it. I don't hate myself for getting Bravely Default because I did love it until than but I can't bring myself to get Second if they do it again.
Forgot my link
>enemy that looks like other enemies in the same area around late game
mid game in the sequelbut with different colour
>has roughly three times the amount of health
>has roughly 10 times the attack power
>if you hit it but don't kill it it runs away
>leave it be and you're dead
>manage to kill it and you get enough experience almost guarantee level up (maybe twice if you're low enough)
fucking amayzee dayzees
worst part about them is
there was supposed to be a fight in the original paper mario where you fight four at once
>Also changes the colour of the level
>boss health ???
>forces you to use rare healing item to fully heal
>very next attack kills boss
>boss warps you across multiple landscapes as the battle progresses
as annoying as that was you gotta be grateful that phase two is such a pushover when you're going for S rank on revengeance
especially after the bullshit that is the second ranked fight holy fucking shit i hate it
>final boss is an extremely dangerous magical construct that can lay waste to the entire world with extremely powerful magic if not contained
>it attacks by bouncing around the arena
>Go through 4 incredibly hard boss fights in a row
>Final boss is damn near unbeatable without cheesing with items or grossly overleveling
>you need to use your super move on the boss for the fight to end
>super meter depletes
>there's another boss afterwards
>it's so hard that you feel like you could use your super move right about now
>enemy teleports when you attack him
>game is cover-based shooter
Fuck you Spec Ops
I wish I was. If it's from a Persona game, then that'd be why.
>enemy teleports through walls when hit
>his attacks can go through walls
>Boss can only be killed by a contextual move that is useless at all other points in the game
>finally manage to beat boss
>2nd part of boss fight starts and you can't heal
>kills you immediately every time
>can no longer use that save file
> Boss splits itself into 4 clones.
> Only one can be damaged.
> It buffs all its abilities up to the max.
> Hitting the wrong one ends your turn instantly.
> 99% of the time there is no way to tell which is the real deal.
> Multi-Target abilities don't work on it.
>implying I ever played that
hurr hurr so smurt pls let me suck ur cock since I didn't know
To be fair, those 5 years of parody videos, I either didn't have a working computer, or lack of internet, or bullshit IRL problems. So fucking sue me.
>Boss is kinda hard
>Get an option to spare his life
>He says you'll regret it
>Several hours later
>Get to what would be a tough boss fight
>It's now an insane double boss fight with both of their minions and them fighting you
>Once you win one of them absorbs the other
>As you do damage it creates clones of itself to slap your shit
>Boss is 100% MAD
>Normal fight, you're a tiny spec weak against him, no worries.
>Boss becomes 200% MAD, music symphatizes
>Gets a tier tougher
>Boss becomes 300% MAD
>Completely obliterated every time
>Retry the entire campaign instead
>after hours of fighting super ornstein in dark souls
>both of us hit each other, killing both of us
>i thought i did not have to go throught th fight again
>see fog gate
>Boss is just a dude like everyone else
>He talks a mixture of shit and respect at you while you fight it out
>He has the same tricks as you do and you get the feeling that he was designed to mimmick the way most players will play the game
>character class revolves around debuffing enemies
>bosses are immune to all of them
>HP bar is off screen
>mass amounts of damage and it still is off screen
>Kirby's air ride
>Final Boss health bar is off screen
>whaling on it for 5 minutes and still off screen
>Misadventures of Tron Bonne
>Final Boss health is 1
>cannot kill them because it's scripted
>enemy kills itself from being so pathetic
>enemy does double damage you do to it
>do nothing to win
How can you not know that theme? I mean, really?
I only just started playing USFIV and i've never touched a street fighter game in my life before that, and i can recognize it in seconds.
Do you even internet at all?
>game that takes place literally hundreds of years in the future references memes and pop culture that would've died before these characters were sperm
>be the strongest in party
>keep wasting my turn to revive and heal my party
>they just keep dying
>trying to win with them all alive
>fuck it, final boss, I'll solo him
>whether they lived or died in that fight, you get the same ending
>Final boss is weak to one of the most common debuffs in the game
Simple. I didn't remember the theme. My memory lapsed, and I don't typically play many fighting games, if any at all.
Any other questions?
I'd probably do that if I wanted the player to be acutely aware shit is is about to go down
>party members die right before you kill a boss
>they don't get experience for the battle
>fight the anti guy in toy box as soon as i see him
>get my shit rekt
>accidentally summon a koopatrol from the roulette or whatever it was by fucking up majorly
>get my shit rekt
I'm sorry anon, but I can't
git gudat fighting games, disregarding Smash and Dissidia, but those don't really count in this thread. They just don't typically interest me.
Still, I feel pants-on-head retarded for forgetting Guile's theme.
>having to have played Street Fighter to know Guile's Theme
>Background music continues playing through battles
Yes, because if you'd read some of the later posts, you'd have seen I didn't exactly know of the theme from the internet itself, excluding my post of just now remember that Smooth McGroove did an acapella.
Shovel Knight did that except you won and the boss lost
> Instant kill that works 100% of the time, ignores immunities and cannot miss.
> Can be used on MC.
> Game over if MC dies.
>game teaches you early and often to buff youself and debuff the enemy boss
>Get to boss ~75% through the game
>you can't debuff him
>he's always debuffing you
>and he gets 2 actions a turn because fuck you
>h-he rustled me
>B-BETTER BREAK OUT THE EMOTICONS >:DD
It's like we literally have nothing else to discuss.
>countdown continues through cut scenes and dialogue
This was basically Nemesis in ffx.
You had to have characters with auto phoenix and spam reraise because he would just keep killing everyone over and over with party-wide 99999 damage attacks. shit was brutal.
>Get bosses HP to the lowest point you've ever been able to get it
>End up getting cocky
>Try to do some cool finishing move
>He does some AoE move and kills you
>boss requires an item, albeit with unlimited uses, that does a set amount of damage that takes an unknown but exact amount of times used only at point-blank range to defeat
>That item is only possessed by the MC and none of the teammates
>No other way of damaging the boss meaning you only have one form of attack
>Boss also has endless minions to attack you
>Minions can also heal the boss from a distance
>throughout the game all the bosses have extremely bombastic and loud theme songs
>even the more somber ones were pretty big
>get to final boss expecting the loudest and most bombastic
>theme is a soft piano ballad as you slowly kill an old god clearly tired and weak, but desperate to keep him and his kingdom alive
>boss drops a an item under certain conditions
>it has a move that damages itself
>if it kills itself you don't get the item
First experience as a kid with stupid bosses was Pokemon.
>Feeling good about myself barely scratching by at the indigo plateau.
>Down to last pokemon, my Blastoise.
>Lets go buddy, this Lance guy doesn't stand a chance.
>How was I to know the Elite FOUR was going to have a fifth challenger?
Afterwards I learned about revives.
>2 against 1, bosses favor
>Hit by other
>Hit by the 1st
>Boss gets twice as strong
To those who know the game I got good eventually, it's just a very jarring first experience.
>theme music starts playing for the final battle
this bosses were never meant to be beaten
the devs said so themselves, top kek
though, it's fucking impressive that people succeeded in beating them
>I said meant to. You obviously could beat them. You should just never have been autistic enough to do it
>"main" villain is beaten in a QTE
>real main villain is revealed
>infinitely less interesting than the previous main villain
>also beaten in a QTE
FUCKING FAR CRY 3.
>Boss rush at the end of game
>They have the same stats they had when you first fought them so you stomp most of them in 1 or 2 hits
