The fact that legend of aang had an overarching goal (defeat the firelord) gave it more time to develop.
Korra season 1 started out great but the teenage drama bogged it down, and the ending was absolute shit. So the villain in the end had no real purpose, he was just a powerhungry hypocrit. Oh, and you lost your bending? No trouble have it back!

Season 2 was shit all over i can't think of a part of it that was interesting except avatar wan.

Season 1 was a mess. It seems that they originally planned to do a 20 something episode series but instead they had like 12-13 episodes and instead of making a story that fits the time constraints they just made an abridged version of their original vision disregarding character development. In the end what you got was a mess of a story that did not know what it wanted to be. You got a MC that was unlikable and for some reason everyone else liked her to the point to have hilariously bad love triangles and other geometric of love. You had characters like Asami and Mako that were just boring as fuck, and Bolin that was just one bad joke after another. The older characters like Tenzai and Chief Beifon were better but they were left with little development. Amon at first was interesting but the twist and turns his story had was just bad and making his anti-bending dialogue weak in the end. So Season 1 started with a lot of promise but was destroyed by its execution.

Season 2 problems was simple. It was too out there. This season had to much mumbo jumbo and too many threads going at the same time. You still have the bullshit love triangle added with Amnesia and you got a recipe for disaster. The villain in this one was in the end a spooky spirit that enticed some guy to be evil or something. In the end we had a really over the top kaiju battle that went as fast as it went. This season is totally forgetable and all you need to know is that Spirits are free to roam the Human world and Humans can do the same on the Spirit world.

Now we go to season 3. This is what Korra should have been in the first place. In this season we have time to get to know our characters and there's not much going on until near the end. The plot is more grounded with less mumbo jumbo thrown around and more simple storytelling. There's no love triangles on this one with the first episode lampshading that from past seasons. That for me was a sign of the change in direction of this season. This season was a simple Adventure across the Earth Kingdom with the simple premise of finding Airbenders and going from there. The end was a nice set up for Season 4 and I expect that one to be the finale of Korra.

Part of me want to be excited, but what's been shown so far has looked so incredibly dull, low budget and well, stale. Especially the animations.

I mean judging by comments here maybe the budget isn't all that high but if you want a game in this style to succeed it has to look fluid, exciting and well, fun as much of a buzzword it is. And what Platinum has shown so far looks none of it.

Since this is a Korra thread i guess this is an alright place to ask, but what's the deal with lava bending exactly? I mean lava is basically liquid rock/earth so it makes perfect sense for earthbenders to be able to bend lava if they practice enough or what not.

What i don't get is how the fuck do the lava bending earthbenders CREATE lava? Controlling it is one thing, but creating it? How? Wouldn't you need to be able to melt down the rock/earth yourself to create lava? How does an earthbender do that? Fire benders create fire from their body heat, but earth benders can't do that, so how the fuck do they melt down the earth to lava themselves? It doesn't really make sense.

I feel like the avatar should be the only one who can full on lava bend like that because they would be able to create the lava whenever they please then bend it, while normal lava bending earth benders should only be able to manipulate it, not create.
