Yeah, just don't get too drawn into the hype. FE4 has a ton of problems from its huge maps and weird design choices, but it's pretty unique in its own right.

FE5 is pretty much the progenitor and codifier for modern FEs, though it comes with some surprise dickery here or there and a main character that vies with Roy as most dead weight, but it's got some fairly clever challenges in its own right.

You might want to look up some stuff, because while the game does teach you important mechanics like marriage/inheritance in FE4 and the fatigue system in FE5, it often explains it to you long after the point where you could've prepared for it.

I really hope Awakening 2: Awakened Again is more difficult. Awakening added some neat things to the franchise but it was a cakewalk(unless you play on pray-to-the-RNG-gods mode). Apotheosis and the Challenger maps were great though.

Just starting playing Fire Emblem Awakening, first Fire Emblem I've played. How exactly do the weapons work? You only get so many uses of it? Also does hit indicate the dmg and if so should I always use high hit weapons?

It's a delicate balance, the challenge maps pretty much warrant you reclassing, leveling up and just loading everyone's asses with hilarious skill combinations.

I'd rather they balance the game for someone that was just going straight from chapter to chapter, occasionally deviating for the paralogues/gaidens, like in FEs that don't have the world map.

And someone who's spending time in side battles can get an inexperienced unit up to speed in a short amount of time, or if they're so inclined, can grind a bit to trivialize an encounter.

Yes, weapons break after a certain amount of hits (if you land 2 in one fight, your weapon uses up 2). Hit means your % chance to hit. Hit is based on a unit's Skill as well as the Hit of a weapon; units with high skill can still get 100% Hit with lower hit weapons. A lot of players keep multiple weapons, in case they absolutely need to land a hit or the enemy's evasion is very high.

Most weapons outside of Chrom's Falchion have a limited amount of uses, so yes, the numbers tell you how much ammo your weapon has.

Hit affects your accuracy, which is determined by the weapon's innate "Hit"(Swords have the highest hit, axes have the lowest) and the character's "Skill" stat. This is weighed against the opponent's speed/Avo/Avoid to give you a hit percentage.

Might(Mt) determines damage. So damage is basically Weapon Might + Strength/Magic(depends on the weapon) + weapon bonuses(based on weapon rank), and this is put against the enemy's defense/resistance(for physical and magic attacks, respectively).

If you need more info, just tap the numbers on the bottom screen. The game'll tell you everything.

Units in FE can promote (conditions vary per game), and each one starts you off with a prepromoted unit. They gain XP at a much slower rate and, for most games, their growth rates are shit. Don't use them for kills unless it's to ensure the life of one of your other units, and just use whatever units the game throws at you that aren't promoted until you're about halfway through the game. At that point, they're there to replace any units that you may have lost up until then so they're passable.

Also know that almost all units can become completely viable and/or rapists if the RNG loves them during levelups, and vice versa. Even the best units are not immune to getting RNG screwed.
