Just began playing monster hunter with Freedom unite on PSP, I am really enjoying it, I hate the fact that enemies run away when they reach a lower health since it just prolongs the battle needlessly but otherwise it's fun.

Are skills important in the game? I have pretty much been ignoring armor and just focusing on getting shiny on new weapons plus trying out all the different weapons.

The rathalos is notorious for having a really fucked up paint job on the eyes, and the hunter's spikes can come bent and warped.

Yeah, nah. It does plenty of damage. In addition to striking more quickly and having better reach and movement speed(and thus more opportunities to strike), each hit does 30-something percent, 45 in the case of the backlift and super pound's slamming strike. Literally the only moves that do less than 30 damage are the stab and a couple of recitals, and even then other recitals do major damage as well, especially the encores.

The hammer on the other hand has to go 42-20 before it can hit that 90 and has a balls long recovery afterward. Yes, the sheer damage output in terms of pure DPS standing beating on a weak point is better, but not so much so that it's going to yield anything more than a 1-2 minute hunting difference at the skill/performance ceiling.

You are vastly underestimating a capable Hunting Horn user's potential.

Rathalos Mantle is the worst item you could have picked for your example. A Los Mantle can only be carved from the tail so it's almost always better to cap.

It's also easier to get the skills that facilitate capturing and increase capture rewards.

Deviljho Crook is the only item I can think of where it's better to carve for than capture.
