It was so nice my first time around to be in this world, where nothing seemed like it was out to kill my psyche, a sudden break from all the creepy. It was nice. Then there was that girl in the igloo, I tried so many effects to try to get her attention, until finally I stabbed her. I don't know why, I just though something might happen. But nothing happened, she just screamed and died. It was, unsettling, to say the least. All I could think about was getting the person in the snow to wake up, I resorted to stabbing them. It's kinda fucked up.

Learn a DAW. Fruityloops and Reason are pretty good for beginners. You don't need a midi keyboard or anything, but it helps. You should have enough ambient noises to play with out of the box.

If you want to do the chiptune side of it, learn to use famitracker. It's a bit more tedious to use than a daw but it gets the job done for 8bit.

The Neon world. It's so busy and bright it somehow makes me feel peaceful which is strange cause I usually hate places like that in real life.

Looking at how the game is composed I'd argue that the game schizophrenicly goes from concept to exploration. Some parts are very clearly just translations of a the creators dreams. Others seem to indicate an overall concept that ties everything together.
Luckely, the creator decided to leave everything up to interpretation. Goes very well with the gameplay.

This game is one of a handful that I'll never really forget playing the first time.

It was winter of 2009. I was in my first year of graduate school in a brand new town. I was adapting very well to a strange place with zero friends and tons of responsibility as a grad student.

We get a shit ton of snow at some point in late January. I knew the storm was coming and I loaded up on tons of food. The storm hit on a Thrusday into Friday night iirc. I had just downloaded the game a few days before but not tried it yet.

We get like 2 and half feet of snow. Half of town is without at electricity that friday morning. Campus is shutdown, and I can't get out of my apartment. My car is under a massive amount of snow. My half of town has power but the internet is down.

So I binge on this game starting Friday night. I was already at a peak of depression. It was one of the most miserable times in my life ever. And I'm snowed in with this game on a dwindling food supply. Basically chugging pop and eating frozen food with mac and cheese.

I proceed to stay up for almost two days. My foul moods were making me lose sleep badly that year. Saturday night at like 3 in the morning, I do Mars. The whole rocket ship crash and the adventures on Mars still creep me the fuck out. The isolation of this part of the game struck a nerve with my real life feelings. Stuck in the snow, depressed, and completely isolated. My whole first experience with game was such a bizarre thing.

I love the game, but I can hardly play it now because it just puts my mind back to that frozen weekend in the snow.

Yume Nikki, from what I've heard, inspired non-rpg like elements in an RPGMAKER game. Like seriously, it took the whole jrpg elements and threw it out the window, yet still using the basics of a jrpg maker which is top-down exploration.
Although most would say that yume nikki wouldn't be involved in, lets say Ib, I'd have to disagree because Yume Nikki did inspire this kind of RPGMAKER game.

I had just broken up with my gf of 4 years and lived alone in a house that was slowly falling apart. Poor foundation, and the landlord refused to do anything. Kitchen barely functioned, and I had no idea what I was doing next.

Playing YN was such a surreal escape from all that and the end left me feeling kind of numb for awhile. But I think it helped me through the bad bits and got back up on my feet shortly after.

Anyway I went into this weird fucked up maze thing with numbers on the floor and happened upon a room with a lot of beds. Some blood dripping from the wall pulled me into this fucked up place where these crazed... things looked like they were chasing me so I got out of there. One piece of advice - get the bike effect before anything else. It's in this world and you can get to it from one of the main doors. Just walk around until you find it. It lets you move at double the speed

What kind of reality checks did you try? The ones like looking at a clock and flicking a lightswitch don't work well for me...
The one I use is the nose pinch. I pinch my nose and try to breathe through it. If I can, I'm in a dream, otherwise I'm awake.

I didn't expect Wadanohara to be so long. But then again, I played it right after multiple playthroughs of Dear RED and Hello? Hello..?, both of which are short and meh.

Great game, tho. Couldn't get into The Gray Garden right away as I was kind of burnt out on that formula.. I played a little Mogeko Castle before those two but didn't particularly enjoy it.
