It's a fairly huge story in the development community. This action by youtube celebrities will make people far less likely to back Kickstarter games in the future in general and those same people involved may be more legally liable than normal.

Since a normal indie studio is an LLC unattached to a larger entity, when they can't complete a Kickstarter for their first game they typically dissolve the studio to eliminate any legal repercussions. Yogscast sold this game using their brand name though and pushed the Kickstarter with their names, so they still exist as a legal entity to sue.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens in court, if the backers organize as they seem to be moving towards.

Each failure hurts the confidence in the model. Sure, there have been crappy games and good games out of KS but those projects have at least fulfilled their obligations to a degree. It was crap, but that crap was funded and produced.

Other failures have been more than obvious to anyone discerning.

This however was a case where it was a project that was sponsored and advertised by another company so much that they put their reputation on it. Turns out it's a scam and now the Yog company is going berserk in that they lost face and are being looked as heavily responsible for the matter.
