I remember marathoning the entirety of Strawberry Panic before 6th grade camp. That wasn't my first introduction to yuri though since I was into /u/, dynasty, lilicious, etc since either 5th grade or early 6th grade. (I'm 21 now too).

Yeah I guess 11 is so young to be on 4chan but I heard so much about it and got curious so I checked it out.

Yuri just seems more exciting for me, at least in manga and anime format... Plus I totally don't get the appeal of men's body or heterosexual sex, a kind of grossed out even. And my ideal kind of man is really weird, it's not someone I can possibly find in real life. But girls, there are lots of girls I want.

My first yuri was Hanjuku Joshi.

>>2395874

this is glorious and hilarious given the idiots that repeat the dumb meme that all women on MMO's are just RP'ing men. I've ERPed pretending to be a guy too, even used pictures of my brother when she wanted proof of what I looked like. I think it's more common than the reverse, to be honest.
>>
>>2396190
WoW at least had a lot of women. If you were in a serious raiding guild, everyone would talk on Vent and you could hear a fair number of female voices.

One day in 2005, I just thought to myself "Are there anime about lesbians?!" so I found some AMVs and went from there.

Started with Utena movie, YamiBou and of course KnM. Then I watched Utena TV and it was shit.
>>
>>2396212
>Utena is shit
>loving Shizuma, Shizuru, Chikane
Patrician taste, neesan.
Should I be ashamed for not knowing who the last one is?
>>
>>2396217
Yes, it's a classic though not popular on /u/. A lot of yuri isn't popular on /u/ but known to oldfags.
>>
>am a bisexual male
>have always admired the female form, even as a little kid
>had my life saved by my lesbian cousin when I was 3
>thought that everyone who was a good person was at least a little soft inside, but especially girls
>have always been a sucker for good romance (which is why I never touch an actual romance novel if I can help it
>by the time I was 11, I was putting two and two together and realizing the the warmest, softest romance is between two warm, soft things (therefore girls)
>found shoujoai.com while looking for lily-based fanart
>found out about 4chan from there
>haven't left since

And honestly, seeing the kind of crap that both women and homos have to go through in real life (I've met people on both ends of the het-homo spectrum who hate me because I won't "pick a side"), all I ever want anymore is to see people being happy. The sadder they are, the more I wish for their happiness, hence my constant fixation on girls being happy with other girls.

I remember that in 2008 some fujoshi in a forum invited me to read yaoi and posted some smut but I wasn't too excited by it. I got curious about the opposite of yaoi and decided to search for yuri. The first thing I stumbled upon was the Shoujo Sect manga, and from there it all was a slippery slope. Pic related is now me.

Mikagura isnt a classic. What are you on about.
>>
>>2396228
I don't like bisluts so Utena is a lost cause. KnM is a shit show but its romance is actually decent. How many lesbians can rape a girl and still win her against a "perfect guy"? Only Chikane and Shizuru had ever managed this feat. That kind of victory give me life.
>>
>watch more 'normal' series

What infuriates me even more is people denying sexism and homophobia exist, in this very thread. Where I live, it's completely normal to publicly snicker at and make fun of LGBT people, parents do house-arrest if they find out their children are gay, father hiring thugs to rape his own daughter to "fix" her sexuality, husbands beating wife for earning more money than him and people agree that it's her fault, a man publicly slapoed a woman for daring to calling him out about damaging her car yet people insulted her for being a stupid bitch daring to talk back against a man... It's exhausting. I want to kill everyone sometimes.

This isn't just SEA, I'm an ameriburger and this shit happens here too; well, with the one exception of the father hiring thugs to rape his daughter, never heard of that.

House arrest shit happens though. My first girlfriend's parents (christian) found some videos we'd made for each other (and with each other) and they pretty much confined her to room until she turned 18 and she moved out with me.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad your girlfriend managed to escape. My friend's college classmate was house arrested by her father for years and she's turned so depressed that she's completely unable to work and will properly never be able to support herself financially nor meet anyone. She might kill herself any day and I'm completely unable to help her.

The woman living across the street of my house is beaten by her husband several times a year, and I only know because the slaps and shouting are so loud, and full of sexist remarks like "How dare you talk back to your man!?" Nobody in the neighbourhood do anything to help her even though I'm sure they heard. When I brought it up, people just said it's normal for wife to be hit sometimes, it's nothing life threatening nor to fret about.

I'd have ignored the sexism/homophobia denial, had this attitude not be so widespread across the internet. People never realize how cruel it is to sweep people's pain under the rug like this.

I must've been all of 10, or 11 when I started warming to the idea of two girls. I remember, there were two girls in my class who, although friends, would treat each other like shit (like a sort of friendship hypergamy) and constantly prattle on about boys. I started seeing how a lot of girls around me would see each other like stepping stones as a means to popularity with the boys. As a means and not an end in itself. And I didn't like that.

Flash forward to 2006. I get a private internet connection (before I'd just been using a toaster we had shared by everyone in the house) and happen to come across episodes of anime uploaded onto youtube in 5 minute clips. I watched a few shows like this (then moved on to dedicated streaming and then torrenting). First was Chobits, so not yuri, but very shortly after that I watched KnM and shortly after that Strawberry Panic, Yamibou, Mai Hime and hundreds more in a few short years.

It remedied the problems I was having in that here were girls treating each other as an end. I discovered that there was something about girls seeking out other girls as romantic and sexual partners that was just so cathartic for me. So I kept watching year in year out. Got on to the seasonal trash when I started browsing 4chan in maybe 2008, and finally started down the slippery slope in 2014.

To this day it remains that way. Despite being a bit weary of tropes, and burned plenty enough times it still serves one of the biggest sources of joy in my life, now at 27.

Already said this in another thread and don't feel like rehashing it and my entire long and slightly tragic gay journey but basically the catalyst was my mom bought me the Strawberry Panic manga, I cried because I thought it was making me gay when really it was just bringing the reality of me being a lesbian to my attention, mom told me it's fine and to get over it and I just delved completely into it then. Watching and reading yuri, going wild with my crushes on 2d girls and writing self-insert fanfic, dating my first girlfriend at 13, etc etc.

Didn't start browsing 4ch until about 2015 and only really started coming to /u/ this year because of my girlfriend.

When I was like 13-14 I decided to check out what the most critically acclaimed anime were and one of the recommendations was Strawberry Panic (haha).

Still, I did like it, and it put the idea in my head of how sensitive a romance between two girls can be. And really, a hetero romance can be sensitive and a lesbian one can not be, but in media portrayals a yuri relationship seems like it's usually a lot nicer and just...more comfortable? Emotionally open? I dunno.

Plus two girls is twice as hot as one, so you know.

Liking yuri romance more than hetero might have kinda fucked me up and given me some gender issues, but I think I'd have those anyway. I've always been kind of an emotional pussy so I think that's why I like the sort of 'softer' romances that are common in yuri and uncommon in hetero romances. Romances for men almost dont exist outside of Japan, which is pretty much always wish fulfillment fetish stuff with poorly developed, one note females. Romances for straight women are pretty much always wish fulfillment fetish stuff with poorly developed, one note males.

Looking at yaoi would make me feel gay, so yuri it is.

Been on 4chan for years and eventually just clicked on /u/, not really a story there. I do like how much slower it is than the other boards though, which is why it's one of the only ones I still visit.

Where in SEA do you live? I live in Indonesia and Facebook muslims get really salty whenever a woman, or pretty much anyone don't put marriage as their main life goals. Probably they are just vocal minority, but they sure love to shoehorn their opinion everywhere.

Being into this specific genre is pretty much a well-kept secret of mine to this day, and I'm currently 24. I'm ok with that, though. I think it's mostly because I don't want to have to face questions like if this makes me gay or bi or whatever. At the end of the day, I'm mostly a bland, boring heterosexual. While I think I might also see some women with a sense of infatuation or attraction, I've also had poor experiences with women as friends because of gossip, dishonesty, etc. Which sucks, because I've always wanted to have close girl friends as opposed to an actual girlfriend.

It was the mid-thousands internet and I'd asked people online for the best anime shows, would you expect me to have been recommended actually good things?

It was a time when people thought fucking Elfen Leid was good.

This is amazing somehow.

Reminds me 7 of the 9 girls I have met at cons turned out to be gay or bi. I wonder why that is.

Also pic related looks like her.

After that I wanted to overcome shyness towards her because normally I'm a reckless person. So we talked sometimes during breaks. I guess I was trying to convince myself that I wasn't in love or something. She stayed 3 months and went to another school. Next year I transferred to a mixed school. 7 years passed since then and I still enjoy my 2D lesbians.

Don't really know anymore.
I remember liking the lesbian generals in Agent Aika, which I watched on television a long time ago, sometimes before 2005.
At one point I started to heavily ship Nana and Mayu from elfen Lied for some reason, but this got me to try Strawberry Panic and Shoujo Sect. That was in 2007.
