I find his presence in the story superfluous. What they've done with him development-wise is fine, but why make an entirely new character whose purpose is to showcase how muggles view magic when the same thing could've been done with random muggle crowds/npcs in general? And the few instances where they keep slipping in prospective ship tease between him and Akko were annoying; I'm not just saying that because I'm a yuri fan, but those moments were completely unnecessary and felt out of place. Hell, I like the Chumlee shopkeeper more than Andrew. Thankfully he's been inoffensive so far, but I'll withhold judgment until the season ends.

Honestly I think the pay-off to Andrew's presence was just Akko connecting the dots with what he told her about Diana once not being able to use magic. His being someone Diana knew as a child makes him the perfect person to relate this fact, letting her know Diana wasn't just bullshitting to make her feel better in last week's episode by relating to her something Diana would have told no one else.

In simple terms, as I see it, Andrew's entire purpose was just to bring Akko and Diana closer.

So long as you keep that in mind, dumb expectations about stuff like Chariot having some angsty sinful background or Croix being anything more or less than a flawed redeemable villain won't be an issue.

The seven words which are the focus of the plot of the second cours have direct application to young animators chasing after their dreams. Every aspect of the story plays back into this allegory addressing the real life journey/obstacles some people face so I'm interested in seeing what form the "World Reconstruction" of the Grand Triskelion finally takes.

Also Andrew is shipbait but the series isn't het. Andrew and his dad represent the stiff government types who need to be convinced of the cultural value of animation in order to fund stuff like the Anime Mirai project. The shipbait amongst witches (i.e. actual animators) is just as valid and much more prominent in terms of the role it plays in the story.

It's actually less gay than any other show with all girls cast this season. There's also one dude which may or may not be the token love interest, but you'll have to see how the last episode pan out. It's just this show manages to get a decent amount of fan content (like RWBY), thus the thread here.

To be fair just wait till the show ends and see the reception before you decide to watch. I think the show was rather mediocre compared to the OVA so honestly you are not missing out much.

This sounds like reverse yuri goggles to me. You're so averse to it that you take in every little detail to interpret it that way.
To me the episode mainly about Akko spreading her doki doki no waku waku dream to Andrew especially with the way they delivered the end with the Polaris fountain, which was pretty much the most beautiful scene in the show till then, taking the spotlight and Akko being so enamored with it that it became the emotional highlight.
The dramaturgy of that episode made it very clear that romance is not on Akko's mind and that her dream of Chariot is the most important thing to her.

Moe is more an element than a genre
There are many series that people catalog Moe and are ignored just for that, even when they are quite interesting in their right, for example the sweaty Ping Pong Anime
Also happens the opposite case, when an Anime does not have "Moe" is considered almost automatically better than the rest, even when its real quality is quite deficient and is regular in the best case, like Ajin

Without any irony, Kaiji is literally the Anime that better embodies the term Moe than any other and is no joke

The main problem is that Westerners took a misconception of what is Anime / Manga and have kept it all this time, so a stupid amount of OVA's were made to defraud Westerners during "the golden age"

I could swear that most people do not know who Yuri really is (even in Japan)

In fact the "western" style is a good thing with LWA, but it is the overall quality of the series which does not impress me much, I seriously feel that they had pushed many things into people's faces

*Good ol' fashioned power of friendship beats giant threat to mankind. Basically a bit of Gurren-Lagann with one of those Precure movie audience participation things thrown in.
*Following a baton-pass style rocket scene (hey, Jasminka gets to do something), the climax battle is pretty much Akko and Diana all the way, complete with mutual rescues and badass sakuga.
*Croix decides to dedicate herself to curing Ursula's curse.
*Andrew pretty much just shows up with the hat, in a group I might add, and then it just cuts to Akko putting the hat on without any awkward discussion. Safe to say, Trigger dropped the romance for the second half, though I suspect that will be criticised for its own reasons.


In summary, definitely a bit of missed potential storywise (there better be a Jasminka-foused OVA coming), but it's still pretty darn good for what it is; a magic-filled romp with beautiful animation and a fair bit of shipping fuel.

I went to the Screening event for the last episodes on Friday in Shinjuku with a friend and am writing up what I can remember from the interview with the Director, creators and Akko's VA. That's where all the rumors about the original confession(s) come from. They pretty much shot down Akko x Andrew btw and said a couple of interesting things too, I'll be making a Twitter thread about it later since I don't want to post yet just in case I spoil someone. Don't get me wrong, I love Lotte. She is the most grounded, and in my opinion, cutest character in the entire cast. But there are no good ships for her, not in the movies, nor the series.
