I've only watched the main series so I wanted to ask is the movies about Togo's life before she met Yuuna? Also what is YuYuYui? Does it involve Yuuna?

Yes, the movies adapt Wasuyu and are about Togo's first time as a hero. The movies will also make up the first 6 episodes of the next season when it airs, and the latter six episodes will be a sequel to Yuyuyu.

Yuyuyui is the mobage that just released, it's a tower defence game with light novel scenes, and contains not only Yuuna, but all the yuushas from every series so far, Yuyuyu, Wasuyu, and Nowayu.

I don't think there is any reason to doubt who Wakaba got with anymore. The two of them are getting very damn close to NanoFate levels. Togo is so possessive of Yunna not even she can have her. I really like the fact that the studio has Togo getting jealous of women as well. Most yuri shows only has a woman getting jealous of guys making it look like other women pose zero threat. Love that Togo acknowledges that other women can love Yunna and sees them as a threat. That's why the Love Letter scene in the VN is my favorite. Girl or guy Togo, and even Karin, didn't want them to have Yunna.

As someone who adores Madoka, Madoka was a perfect storm, with a bunch of huge names and shittons of money poured into it by Aniplex. It was always going to be huge, and I'm no expert but I'm willing to bet that the popularity of darker takes on genres like Game of Thrones have been this decade were factors in its American popularity, alongside liking anime slowly becoming more "acceptable" as nerd culture became mainstream. Say what you will about Aniplex but they're willing to put money into Western markets, whereas YuYuYu's dub was Pony Canyon's first Western effort along with Denki-gai, and that along with Funimation's weird obsession with simultaneous dubbing at the time made it a bit of a rush job. Note that mahou shoujo typically aren't all that popular in the West; Sailor Moon is basically the only notable one, with shows like Cardcaptor Sakura and Nanoha having notable but still niche Western fanbases. Madoka is also very Western-influenced while YuYuYu is incredibly Japanese.

Honestly YuYuYu doesn't really need Western mainstream popularity; it's unexpected success in Japan is enough for me since it allowed it the series to grow. The Western fanbase is small but intensely devoted; I don't think I've ever seen a fanbase that had such a dedication to translating things so fast and so consistently.

If it were planned as a standalone story/first season of the YuYuYu series, I think WaSuYu would have worked nicely as a 12 episode series with more time spent on SoL/team bonding. I'm personally still enjoying it as a 6 episode series and think it's miles above the LN, where Gin and Sonoko were far less interesting characters. Gin mostly played the straight man to Wasshi/Sonoko antics, Sonoko was less excitable/wacky, and Wasshi was less endearingly socially awkward.

I suppose we can't say anything for sure until Promise comes out in a couple weeks. A large part of the emotional impact of a character's death is the aftermath.

Anyone else feel like this franchise has kind of gotten out of control?

Not really trying to complain but jesus fuck I can't keep up with everything. So many mediums that are difficult to get into, with a weird chronological order that matters, scans/translations can take a long time, some stuff can be region locked, you can't go see the movies in theatres without a plane ticket, no one ever does drama CDs, information on anything might be exclusively in japanese, etc. It feels so difficult trying to keep up with everything as it comes out.

I've been in from the start and I can't imagine trying to get into it now. Bless the heart of anyone who tries to make this journey easier in any way. You're a fucking hero.
