Especially seeing as the writing needs to accomodate what's happening around the game (new maps, characters, events etc) and not the other way around. So for example when Jeff comes to Chu and says "yo man, we need a cool new comic and stuff for this months Overwatch anniversary" Chu can't just be like "sorry man but I need to finally realize my Gency dreams, maybe next time!"

Hmm you seem to think being the "lead" writer grants him dictatorship powers over the series and the other writers only act in accordance with what he tells them to meanwhile it's more like a group project where he needs to make sure everything sticks together.
Keep in mind it's a huge company and a huge franchise, no one person has a deciding power over a franchise like this. Sure he can sneak a frame or two for his biases but ultimately he only works with what he is given. People cry about Gency but the truth is it's doubtful it will ever actually happen. Most of the characters aren't even his original creations so he wouldn't be allowed to change them to his liking too much. For example if instead of Gency he liked Tracer/Lucio they probably wouldn't let him change her to straight considering Blizz claims ever since they created her they decided she would be a lesbian. Chu wasn't even lead anything when they created her. Same applies to majority of the cast so far.
Another thing, since Blizzard loves their expanded universes, let's say the marketing department goes "woah Genji is sure popular, let's give him a tie-in book". Then they approach one of the writers who wrote one of their many Warcraft tie-in books and go "here's the backstory and all the current canon, you can go wild as long as you don't contradict anything".
Same if Activision-Blizzard ever actually gives the franchise a TV/movie series like they considered. It's gonna get its own directors and writers who will work independently from game writers and Chu will get some special thanks in credits at most.
People also treat Chu like Metzen 2.0 but they forget Metzen was a higher ranked Blizzard employee who would get away with more thanks to his position while Chu is fairly new and only works on Overwatch.

I normally ain't much for AUs, but thinking about this for a while, there's something really appealing about blending OW girls with their TF2 counterparts. It adds a lot of coolness and grants the girls the mercs' charisma.

On /v/ it's mostly done as a joke. It might've been one of you faggots who thought up that TF2 Tracer who got her time-dashing powers in a world record attempt sponsored by an energy drink company gone wrong and goes around bashing things with a cricket bat. Lord knows there were quite a lot of strange overlap between the odd yuri threads and threads that can discuss TF2 and OW calmly.

Sniper fits pretty well for Ana, but there's something really attractive about blending Widowmaker with some elements of the Spy. Turn her from a brainwashed sniper into a luxurious, glamorous Golgo 13-esque French assassin that wears thousand dollar tactleneck sweaters and halter tops. Maybe turn the "sniper shields" into scarves and other fashion accessories.

But what kind of rifle would she use? What kind of car would she drive? Melee weapon? Maybe a trick umbrella like the Civilian?

What kind of pistols would Tracer use? Dual Webleys or some other British wartime/Cold War-era revolver would be a good fit for the old-timey pilot look, but maybe dual PPKs? Would the scattergun seem too crude and aggressive, even for someone swinging a bat into combat? Maybe an SMG?

I'm honestly really into this idea too, but some of the mercs (ie Demoman and Engineer) aren't that similar to any OW girl. I was thinking that Symmetra could be the Engineer with her teleporter, but apart from Pharah, who's supposed to be our Soldier in this situation, there's no more girl characters who deal with explosives. D.Va maybe? I was thinking of Ana as well since she's got an eyepatch, but that's a bit of a stretch.

Maybe in the primary fire (heh) department. Overall, though, Pyro's main weapon is DoT-focused and short-range with an alt-fire that deflects projectiles and shoves people, while Mei's weapon is capable of both short range and long range damage dealing, with primary fire slowing down and freezing people. Plus the rest of her kit, with ice walls and ice blocks and ice everything. So yeah, I can't really see any similarities between Mei and Pyro, aside from the way their primary fire works. Then again, I'm probably getting too autistic about this whole thing.

I would even say D.Va is closer to him in terms of what she can do — short-range primary weapon, DM for eating projectiles, thrusters for shoving people. Although she's certainly more tanky and mobile.

Symmetra's the obvious choice for engineer, since she's the other "sentry" user apart from Torbjorn. Just turn the sentry, dispensers, etc. from a bulky, manly thing like the engineer's into a sleek, minimalistic iPod thing like the Portal sentries on steroids.

Either that or we give D.va a semi-stationary mecha that she sits in all match playing video games, and manually shoots things that appear in her line of view, like the Wrangler.

Instead of a smooth, fancy mecha, it's a bulky, robotic thing that looks like it's half-put together out of things scavenged from a gas station/garage, derived from her Texan Korean-expat grandfather's blueprints.

She also comes with teleporters and a dispenser that serves pop and snacks alongside ammunition.

In a sense, D.va is regular/Wrangler Engy and Symmetra is Gunslinger Engy.

Demoman is admittedly difficult since his OW counterpart is a spam-happy Australian man.

Widowmaker is a default Sniper with a rifle that actually uses a cartridge. Her gas mine trap is basically a more applicable version of Sniper's Razorback, much like Sombra's hack is just a sapper on steroids.

There are no WoW/Diablo/SC skins in OW, if that's what you mean, although there are sprays and player icons.
But HotS's situation is a bit different, as it takes pre-existing characters from other Blizzard franchises and gives them unique skins that exist only in HotS. Which makes me wonder if they'll eventually put some of HotS-exclusive skins in OW. Most of them are mediocre, because apparently somebody in Blizzard's designer team likes making original designs bulkier (Tracer's Turbo skins are absolute cancer because of that) or putting metal visors with flashy lights on character models and calling it "cyber something", but there are a few good ones.

Well, WoW and Diablo don't really have skins. It's not like you can control named characters in there, like Rexxar or Li Ming; you're playing your own character. Not sure about Starcraft, but I believe the situation is similar there.
In OW you get to directly control and modify the look of any character in the roster, so sharing skins between same heroes in HotS and OW would make sense.
