I still like the designs and initial setup alright, but now it's become more of one of those ones I'm just going through because it's nearly over and I've put this much time into it and want to see it through and get closure. I'd probably be angry at what I've seen and heard about the ending if this hadn't already completely run out of steam. I remember complaining about Aoi Hana and how at one point everything just seems to stop and nothing goes anyway but this was far worse and more abrupt. It started pretty good and then someone just hit the brakes.

Yeah, this is probably a good way of putting it. I have no problem with significant drama or long characters arcs or some misunderstandings or whatever per se, but I do expect characters to actually grow and for things to move on one way or another over time. At some point you get to a place where you can say "ok they've done this before, now it's time for it all to come to a head" and if instead the author suddenly sort of chickens out or sets a repeat loop for no clear reason it kills the momentum. Maybe new problems come up after but they should be NEW not retreads of the same thing.

Granted it's a fine line to walk realistically because IRL sometimes people don't talk and let everything go to hell where some omniscient 3rd party viewer would realize it all could have been happily resolved with 10 minutes of honest discussion. Readers have a different perspective when they can see the thoughts of lots of characters not just one. But a good author should still be able to make it satisfying regardless. I think in this case it didn't quite work out. Strong start but then fell into a loop that it hasn't been able to drag itself out of. Too bad.

I guess but that's an issue with slow releases in general. Very common for yuri works so I'm used to it by now.

However because I love it so much I reread it from time to time. Usually one couple's arc at the time.

Ayaka and Yurine are almost certainly written deliberately so as to keep readers in suspense about them, and I think having the original couple treated like that within an ensemble cast is a smart writing technique. Without that anticipation they'd probably feel just like any other couple in the ensemble and so the whole of it would risk feeling more amorphous, instead of their story serving as a bit of a core in the narrative to help make it more structured.
