Hana to Hina is a lot better than Girl Friends since it doesn't have all that boyfriend bullshit.

Her new series will start in the next issue of Galette next month, I hope it'll be as good as Hana to Hina.

The problem with Hana and Hina is that the first volume was boring and not that interesting. Cute characters are not enough to make a good story. Vol 2 was better but still way to slow with character development. Morinaga messed up the pacing of the story.

Hana and Hina first volume was boring?
Nothing happens in GF until the last volume:

- First volume is make up tutorial
- Second is Mari going "I think I'm in love with my BFF :<"
- Third is Akko going "I wished my BFF was in love with me :<"
- Fourth is "How the fahck are they not together yet?!!!"
Then fifth volume comes and delivers what everyone was hoping to happen since volume 1.

Don´t get me wrong, GF still is my favorite work from Morinaga, but I'm pretty sure that it wins over Hana and Hina simply for nostalgia points.

Because NTR is an ongoing series, while Girl Friends ended years ago.
Anime adaptations are almost never done for completed series, since the whole point is to serve as an advertisement.

I did reread both of them recently and Girl Friends pace is considerably more uneven than Hana and Hina. Nothing happens, then lots of things happen, then nothing happens again for ages. Hana and Hina starts slowly, but their interaction is charming and consistent with Hina clearly really gay from early on. And no utterly needless heterosexual drama.

I mean, I don't dislike Girl Friends. But it didn't hold up as well on rereading as I remembered it.

I discovered yuri with Girl friends so it will always have a special place in my heart. But I have to say that Hana and Hina is really cute and I can't wait to read next chapters (does anyone know if the raws for untranslated chapters are available somewhere?)

My favorite is Girl Friends. The boyfriend drama was painful, but for me the bit afterward with Mari trying to pretend like she wasn't in love with Akko anymore was even more painful. But I enjoy the drama, and the payoff is phenomenal. Akko and Mari will always be one of my favorite yuri couples.

For me, The Secret Recipe is my favorite story of hers. I just love the comedy in it a lot.

Morinaga needs to make longer series.
GirlFriends was just fine in terms of pacing, but other stories like Hana to Hina and Gakuen Police felt rushed, and ended rather abruptly.

To be fair to Morinaga, I don't think there's any mangaka who would start a new serialization with yuri romance and be confident about whether it will meet sales targets to carry on for more than a few volumes. Doing it once, like Nakatani and Canno have, would help a lot, but it's a tough genre.

I'm sure a higher price still wouldn't make a manga volume expensive (they're generally around 700 tp 1000 yen), and that niche market would be more than willing to support the production of the goods they want to keep on buying.

Guessing you don't buyfag much. No one does that for good reason. Price is set by publishers based on size & format and not based on supply/demand. As a rule they are always affordable because manga is a popular inexpensive luxury item in the Japanese market. Can you imagine charging more for yuri because it moves stock slowly with low volume compared to other genres? It would discourage fans from buying it more than the extra revenue of a higher price tag would help offset their loss of customers.

There is no relation but they know each other. Easy to tell them apart if you read them often. Morinaga Milk draws angular faces with sharp lines, especially the nose. Morishima Akiko is the queen of soft round faces.

And second, by what little experience I have, I do think too that Canno does not write their characters well. My suspension of disbelief was constantly tested because they are in this strange limbo of not being 100% anime cliche, yet not reacting to the things around them in a believable, realistic manner. It's something that's not easily pinpointed, but it left a bad aftertaste that eventually drew me away.

Just accept not everyone likes the same authors as you do instead of declaring them retards.

I adore Morinaga Milk as a person. But for some reasons, I never find her manga interesting. At least her manga are not as bland as Canno's stuff nor is there anything offensive in them though.

Galette has no publisher, so it's a different situation from a standard case like Hana to Hina being cancelled based on tanks sales. However, that doesn't mean it provides a place where it's practical for mangaka to do series however long they want. I think it's unlikely that anyone with serializations in Galette is starting them planning that they'll last as long as Hana to Hina did. In terms of chapters, it was 19, which would take nearly 5 years in Galette (even assuming Galette survives that long). And Galette isn't using long chapters to compensate for being quarterly. In fact Mera's serialization was just 12 pages in issue 1.
